Grammy Winning Pop Queen To Launch World Tour Tomorrow!
[07-04-2001] Music Industry News Network

July 4, 2001 - - Pop Queen Janet Jackson is no stranger to world tours, Janet's first World tour outing was in 1990 to support her 13 million selling album "Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814", the tour became the most successful debut tour in history seen by more than 2 million people, the tour also broke records all over the world, including in Japan where it still holds the record for the fastest sell out in history, in less than 7 minutes. Jackson toured again in 1993 for her 5th album "Janet.", that album has scanned some 8 million units in the states according to SoundScan and 17 million worldwide, Jackson's last tour was for her Grammy winning album "The Velvet Rope," the tour aired in October 1998 on HBO to more than 6 million people, earning a place as HBO's second most watched event ever.

Now the Queen Of Pop, hits the road again with her "All For You" world tour which kicks off tomorrow in Canada. Grammy Winning R&B group 112 has signed on as opening act for the Pop Queens tour.

Janet told MTV News Monday at rehearsals at Vancouver's GM Place that dancers Shawnette Heard and Gil Duldulao convinced her she had at least one more tour in her — and this one is the biggest one yet. Sixteen trucks and 110 people make up the All for You caravan. Many of those trucks are needed to transport a massive stage set designed by Mark Fisher, who, besides working on previous Janet tours, has also designed sets for U2 and the Rolling Stones, charter members of the "size matters" club. Only one problem here at T-minus three days and counting: part of that stage set has yet to arrive in Vancouver, and that will necessitate some last minute scrambling.

What can fans expect from the show that is unveiled Thursday night? Most details are being kept tightly under wraps, but look for a "brighter" show than the last tour, reflecting the more upbeat mood of the All for You album. A 26-song setlist — of which eight are songs from the new CD — includes "Would You Mind," without a doubt Janet's most explicitly erotic song ever. Seeing that one alone being performed live should be worth the price of admission.

The year has been great for Janet, Jackson's "All For You" CD has sold more than 4.8 million units world wide, and 2 million of them were sold in the US in less than 3 weeks. Her single broke worldwide records, in becoming the first single to be added to every possible radio station in the US, France and Japan, her video "All For You" made it's world premiere on BET, MTV and Oxygen to over 3 million people, and she was honored by MTV with the first ICON Award, Jackson is on the win.
