Dueling Virgin 'Lovers'
Keith,
I'm very curious to see how Virgin Records will deal with Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson now that they are both releasing new singles at the same time ("Loverboy" and "Someone To Call My Lover," respectively).
Janet's single took a huge leap on The Billboard Hot 100, due to a large amount of airplay, so I'm wondering if Virgin is a bit worried about the second single from Janet's current album keeping Carey's debut single from her new album off of the top of the charts.
I know Virgin is releasing a "Loverboy" commercial single in mid-July, however I haven't heard any news about a "Someone To Call My Lover" commercial single. Is the label releasing a single for Janet?
Thanks!
Elijah

Hi Elijah,
Mariah Carey's "Loverboy" is indeed due out in stores on July 17 in all single configurations. Janet's "Someone To Call My Lover" will likely see a commercial release, but the details have yet to be firmed up.
"Loverboy" scoots up four slots to No. 55 on The Billboard Hot 100 this week, while "Someone" climbs 29-23.
