Well, on Ed they just had a conversation about a combination bagel-doughnut, called a donagel. Obviously something that messes with the laws of nature like that should be illegal.
Also on Ed--they have a new theme song, and I miss hearing the Foo Fighters.
Is it going to be a cold or a mild winter? How can you tell?
If you've been over to the new beta board, you know that a post can only have 1000 characters. I've seen a few posters who have that many characters in their signature (mostly on the BSB/Nsync/Britney/Christina boards) which will greatly reduce their ability to complete a sentence. Oh wait, could they do that before?
I like cake and ice cream more than doughnuts, by the way.

I haven't figured out how to do it, but I believe on the new board we could have a poll & rank donuts, ice cream, bagels, cake, etc. Let's not even consider donagels, though.

Okay...How about we start a couple of debates...
Which are better Tastykakes or Drakes Cakes?
Are Dunkin Donuts better than Krispy Kreme?
Does it really matter?
Over at Greasylake they have debated whether or not Bruce has had Rhinoplasty and did Patti have a Boob Job.
We could go on and on here.

I doubt if he had plastic surgery on his nose. If he did, he should get his money back!

cold or mild winter?
you have to check on what the squirrels are doing and it's a little too early for that. I always call my brother Chris every fall for his Annual Squirrel Report. I asked just the other day and he told me I'm too early with my question. We have fun with it....he gets it right too. The year he told me it would be a really bad winter he was trying to shovel waist high snow. Oh the silly fun I have with him....

TMT,
what do the squirrels do? Around here, our squirrels have been out for several weeks now, gathering nuts. To me, that means it will possibly be an early winter. Also, the walnuts started dropping off the trees early.
You will have to keep us all posted on what Chris reports to you. :)

rhinoplasty? that's patti's domain not bruce's. have the before and after video to prove it. as everyone knows bruce has had teeth work done (still miss that gap-toothed smile and major underbite) but a nose job...i think not.
cold or mild winter? hell that's the one thing we don't worry about here. a bad winter is when it rains for more than 2 days in a row.....
and we've already discussed steve's hair-or-not endlessly...not to mention his fashion sense (or not).

Definitely Tastykake apple pies, and Yodels, whoever makes those.
A Bruce workout video, yeah, I'd pay good money for that. You could work up a sweat just sitting on the couch eating Tastykakes!
We have lots of acorns this year, don't know what that means regarding the winter. If it gets too cold, we can always just put on the Bruce workout video and warm up real quick.
More nonsensical topics:
What are you buying to help boost the economy? Hey come on folks, work those credit cards in the name of patriotism!
How 'bout Patti's makeup? In photos we've seen lately, she looks nice and healthy (and a bit more boobular than before), but then on the telethon her face looked all skinny again. Do you think it was the lighting or is she trying to look that way on purpose? Still doing that "contouring" thing with 3 different colors of blush, perhaps?

I prefer Hostess snowballs--chocolate, creme-filled cake covered with marshmallow and coconut. Guaranteed to start a diabetic coma. Best eaten with chocolate milk.
Okay, here's another one I saw on Later when Bob Costas hosted (when it was good!)--in the dark can you tell what flavor Dot you are eating? Gene Siskel could, but I have tried it in a theatre, and I was wrong about half the time.
How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

What about Survivor? Will the press conference tonight pre-empt it?
What about the Amazing Race? Is anybody watching that? That "Team Guido" is slaying me!! They are about the most fun on TV since Richard Hatch.
Personally, I think Patti is keeping some Dr. in business. You don't have 3 kids at a later stage in life and look like that. I'm thinking she uses Suave shampoo.
Bruce may title his next album, "I Love My Wife's Hair" featuring "My Wife's Hair in Ruin", "Lucky Hair", "Badhair" and "Wild Billy's Circus Hair". Sounds good, don't it? Looks even better.

young again, I could have a whole thread about what I've purchased to help the economy! I bought a new receiver (my old one stopped working about 3 weeks ago), the new Jeffrey Gaines cd, a bookcase, and next week I'm going to buy a computer desk so I can have my kitchen table back. Not that I ever eat at the table, because eating in front of the TV is so much better, but I need the table for my sewing machine and anything else "crafty" I want to do, like try to make a pair of studded jeans.
So what have you gotten? I love to hear about shopping!

but here's the question that i need an answer to:
what ever became of bonomo's turkish taffy ("b-o-n-o-m-o o-o-o, it's bonomo's...can-dee") and what made it "turkish" anyway? used to love the banana flavored one. probably lost more fillings on that stuff than anything else. it made my dentist a rich man.

Ohhhh Dari...I remember turkish taffy...I used to like the banana too...Does any one remember those taffy lollipops...we used to call them BB bats? they were rectangular shaped on a stick. Talk about pulling your fillings out. Did anyone ever eat those Necco wafer candies? I thought they tasted like chalk. I like Dots and Junior Mints, I especially like the licorice flavored Dots. Now Jujubes would really pull your fillings out....they used to stick to your teeth and it was hard to get them off. How much did it cost to go to the movies when you were a kid? I remember paying .35 cents..and then it went up to .50 cents. I used to get an ice cream cone every week after religious classes at the Guilford Dairy Bar in Lexington North Carolina for .10 cents every Tuesday or Wednesday. My kids can't believe that, and when I tell them those stories I feel like my Dad who used to say how much everything cost when he was a kid. Now we have this great ice cream place here that is called the Cold Stone Creamery, they make homemade ice cream. They have what they call "mix ins" which are candy, cookie dough chunks, strawberries, nuts and all kinds of good things that they mix into your ice cream on this cold piece of marble. And let me tell you it's really, really good. Of course an ice cream there costs $3.00 and up, but it's worth it.

Bonomo's Turkish Taffy...
B-O... N-O... M-O...
Oh, Oh, Oh... it Bonomo's... Caaaaaaaaaaaandy !
The candy, which first appeared as a nickel bar after World War II, became a favorite with the economy-minded. Unlike some of its competitors, which melted in your mouth, Turkish Taffy eroded slowly, and it was so chewy that a single bar could last through most of a double feature at the movies.
Mr. Bonomo (pronounced BAHN-uh-moh) was born into the candy business and actually had Turkish roots. His father, Albert J., was a Sephardic Jew who had emigrated from Turkey. In 1897, the year before Victor Bonomo was born, his father started making candy in Coney Island to supply concessions at the amusement park. After World War I, Victor joined his father in running the candy factory on Eighth Street in Coney Island, where saltwater taffy and hard candies were produced.
As World War II ended, sugar rationing gave way and the entire country was eager to indulge its sweet tooth. Bonomo's joined the race to satisfy the surging demand, promoting three candy bars, "Thanks," "Hats Off" and "Call Again," which Tico Bonomo, Victor's son, described as "poor man's Milky Ways."
Then the candy cooks at the Coney Island factory came up with a batter of corn syrup and egg whites that was cooked and then baked.
"It was not really a taffy but what is technically known as a short nougat," explained Tico Bonomo. Nor was it Turkish. "It was not a family recipe and the name we chose, 'Turkish Taffy,' just reflected clever marketing," he said.
It cooled into sheets the size of school desks, which were distributed through Woolworth stores around the country. Clerks at the candy counters used ball-peen hammers to whack the sheets, breaking off shards that were sold by the pound.
Apparently this method of distribution merely whetted appetites for the candy, then available only in vanilla. Mr. Bonomo had the slabs cut into panels the size of 1945 nickel Hershey bars, which were larger that 1999 65-cent Hershey bars. The bars were packaged in wrappers that showed smiling men in fezzes pouring batter into a huge vat. Of course, in Turkey, the fez had been outlawed by Kemal Ataturk in the 1920's, but back in the 50's the design drew no complaints.
The candy grew popular, eventually being distributed far beyond the metropolitan region into much of the rest of the country. Before the widespread use of air-conditioning, Turkish Taffy had some problems penetrating Southern markets, where warm temperatures turned the bars from hard to gooey. The problem was eventually overcome with new wrappers.
In the 1950's, Bonomo's Turkish Taffy advertised on children's television programs, among them "The Magic Clown" and "Wonderama." The ads featured puppets named Bo, No and Mo. It also sponsored joint promotions with the Duncan yo-yo company.
In time, three new flavors appeared: chocolate, strawberry and banana. According to Tico Bonomo, the company sold 80 million to 100 million bars a year in the 50's and 60's and employed as many as 350 workers at the Coney Island plant, where it also produced hard candy.
Victor Bonomo retired in 1970 and moved to Florida with his wife, Zephra, who survives, as do Tico Bonomo and nine grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Bonomo's Turkish Taffy changed hands a few times, in 1980 becoming part of Tootsie Roll Industries of Chicago, which stopped making the candy in 1989. Ellen Gordon, president of Tootsie Roll Industries, said that the company phased out the product when demand declined as tastes changed.
