i just got off the phone with lesterx who first of all wants to thank all of you for being so generous and thoughtful
in your concern for her. when last seen she was hysterically crying in front of the count basie theater after having flown 3000 miles because she was promised a ticket by some loser online. it turns out he emailed her today (knowing that she was already in new jersey...her friend got the email off her computer)) to say that he sold the tickets to someone else. he had her cell number but was obviously afraid to tell her this in a conversation. anyway, she is hysterical and gets in her rental car to leave but now having grown up in california is almost immediately lost. to make a bad day even worse she is
pulled over by one of new jersey's finest because she was so upset she didn't put her head lights on. so she just breaks down again crying and he asks if she is lost after seeing her california license. she tells him "no..it's a lot worse than that" and tells him her sad story. without any provocation from her, he says" so do you want to get into the show?"
she just looks at him stunned and says "yes". he proceeds to call the head security cop on the show and tells the guy
her story. then he turns to leslie and says"get to the theater and tell so and so that i sent you". not believing this is happening, she drives back to the theater, finds the head cop who asks her if she is the girl from L.A. when she says "yes"...he lets her in AND SHE GETS TO STAND NEXT TO THE 3RD ROW FOR THE WHOLE REST OF THE SHOW!!!!
for all of you who always say "faith will be rewarded"....you were right tonight. needless to say les is now ONE HAPPY GIRL! she is going to make a big donation to the charity as she got in for free and felt badly about that, but she now LOVES THOSE JERSEY COPS.....
is this a great story or what?

Well, Dari did a fine job of sharing my most excellent (ultimately) adventure! Thanks for all the great reactions to my story, and a special thanks to those who offered to buy my extra MSG ticket and give it to Firerich. What an amazing gesture!
I still can't believe that a Red Bank cop did that for me! Not only did I get to see Bruce, but he restored my faith in humanity which had been temporarily lost thanks to some *$*#*% from Florida! The key to my "success" was that I was genuinely pathetic -- I was a total basketcase and it showed. Because I'd also been lost earlier, I hadn't had time to eat lunch, so I'm lost, starving, unable to find the rental car registration, about to get a ticket and NOT seeing Bruce! Couldn't have faked that level of "patheticness" (I know that's not a word) if I'd spent twenty years in acting school. It never even crossed my mind to approach someone with my tale of woe in an effort to get in -- wouldn't have the guts to try it!
I will add one funny part to the story: I'm standing outside the Basie 99.9% sure I've been screwed when I call my friend and have her check my email to see if the *$#*% has sent me anything. As she reads me the message, I'm literally jumping up and down and screaming "he sold the tickets?" repeatedly, followed by some words that would be a clear violation of the Live Daily TOS. I then proceed to dictate an email response that consists of "You are an *$#*%", etc., etc. People on the street are cracking up, and telling me they completely agree. Turns out that the guy had changed his email address, but then I remembered that I still had his cell phone number, so let's just say the message was clearly delivered.
I spent 7 1/2 hours the next day in the drop line, hanging with some great people. I am now famous (infamous?!?) as the girl who cried and got escorted in by the police. I'm not sure that's a good thing! I ended up buying an extra ticket from someone, but I heard that everyone from the line got in, which was great news.
Two great Basie shows, followed by the Concert for NYC, which I thought was incredible as well. And a story I'll be able to tell for years! Yesterday I went to Ground Zero, which pretty much puts everything in perspective...
LesterX
PS. As a "buyer beware", here's the name of the guy who screwed me over in the trade: Rob Stevens. If it's not okay to post that, I apologize and I'm sure one of our esteemed moderators will edit it out.

Lester...great that you made it. I was on the drop line too. Wish I'd known. Many thanks to Bill for doing such a wonderful job, to the lady from the Basie and, yes, to the Red Bank cops who did away with the parking laws. Wahoo. It's true, everybody that wanted to, got in.
