Last night at the Basie was alot of fun. I have to let Billy tell his story. All I can say is that Billy and Rich were worth the price of admission. Oh yeah having Max standing right behind me was pretty cool. I asked him if he was going to play to which he replied, 'Oh Yeah". Also having Bruce and Patti standing within arms reach was OK. Starting to think Bruce knows where I am all the time now, he's starting to get me worried. Could it be he's a little pissed off I'm living in Freehold? There was a funny short film on New Yawkers take on Jersey in last nights show. In the end the morale of the story being we can insult each other all we want but when the chips are down we're the first to come help each other. True Americans.

Stang's posting is a great description of the evening's performances. I just wanted to tell you a bit about how Billy and Rich had a GREAT night!
The evening started with everybody meeting up at the bar. After some food and drink, Billy and Rich decided to head to the theater early in the hopes of crashing the pre-show party. Somewhere along the way, they decided to go back to Rich's car and get his fire helmet. The two of them were wearing that thing all night and I guess that's what got the attention of Bruce.

We were standing on the side of the stage enjoying the performances when out of the corner of my eye I see Bruce tapping Billy (who is wearing the helmet at this point) on the shoulder. Billy turns around and Bruce said "I gotta give you a hug." Billy said he wasn't a fireman. Bruce's replied that's okay, you are a cop (Billy had on his uniform shirt). And then Bruce proceeded to give him a big hug.

At this point I am beating the crap out of Rich telling him to turn around. When he turns around Billy pulled him into the conversation with Bruce. Rich also received a hug and each was rewarded with a kiss from Patti.

At this point Rich takes the baseball hat he brought for Bruce and tells him we all took a vote and he has to get rid of the f'ing Dolphins hat. So he brought him a hat that combines two things he loves - the Yankees and the fire department. (The hat was an NYFD hat, but the "NY" was the Yankees symbol.) Bruce laughs and accepts the hat, but then on second thought Rich decides to give it to Patti telling her to hold it because Bruce will lose it.

Then they show Bruce Rich's helmet and let him try it on. When Bruce takes off the helmet, Rich shows him that he has the 99 Tour Pin on his helmet. This gets a great big chuckle from Bruce.

Needless to say, we enjoyed the performance. After the performance Billy and Rich made it a point to thank Bruce for the show. Bruce came over, shook their hands and spoke to them again for a few minutes.

We all went for a drink at the bar and then headed home. We left Billy wandering the streets of Red Bank looking for his hotel at about 2:15 AM, but I don't think his feet were hitting the pavement.

I feel like the proud Mama watching her young walk for the first time! Of all the people this could happen to, you two deserve it the most...(well, maybe I deserve it more...LOL) Anyway, Congrats!
Thank you to Jukebox and stan for the great reporst. I felt like I was there. I can't wait to see the show tonight. However, it will be from the comfort and quiet of my own living room.
I hope the cameras span the audience so we can see Billy, who I think is sitting front and center or maybe it was left of center. Anyway, thanks again for the great stories!

this is the most fun i've had without actually being at the shows! you guys are like mutt and jeff (boy am i dating myself here!). couldn't have happened to greater guys. this and leslie's story just goes to show that when you show a little faith "there's (always) magic in the night". hope you all are having just as much fun tonight. can't believe my girlfriend called me at 6:30 am this morning and told me she had an extra if i could make it to new jersey by tonight. too bad the concord doesn't fly from la to nj. i would have been on it.
