View Full Version : Bruce at the Garden Memories

I was walking by MSG last night and started remembering last summer's shows. That was such a great time....I started thinking of Out in the Street, and how excited I was to hear it, even though it was never a surprise and I din't really look forward to it the way I looked forward to hearing the cool songs"for the afficionados" that he would surprise us with each night. Ya know the part toward the end of the song where basically the band stops and the band and the crowd sing the "whoa-oh, whoa oh, whoa oh- oh oh oh oh oh-oh oh's.. before they go the back of the stage? That was so much damn fun!!!'

I can't believe the excitement and passion I felt every night during Badlands actually began to feel like it was my right-I expected to feel totally alive every night.

Getting lucky and seeing him 8 times that month and having the feeling that he was just the best and biggest local bar band in the world, and the Garden was the familiar dive.

I remember holding up my cell phone so my brother could hear NYCS (sorry dari and gee!!) or my sister could hear Candy's Room.
Dancing with my bro when they did E Street Shuffle for the first time in about 25 years...

Bringing this Sloveneian guy to the 22nd who was totally blown away....Meeting into Jungleland (heaven)..... The amazing energy of the first night.....unfortunately predicting Roll of the Dice :) Hearing Code of Silence and knowing Bruce still HAD IT--and thinking I might get a new rock record by Christmas....

Being 10th row and getting out of my breath from shouting along with Darlington County.....being the only one standing on the floor during My Hometown, holding up my bic like it was 1985 and feeling like Bruce was looking at me....making definite eye contact after the stagerush and being 10 feet away during Born to Run and TR.....

So many great memories.....and things are so different now, in so many ways....
Bruce, if you're reading this, thanks for those times...I'd love to do it again someday.....

Sit the heck down Darren, I hate that and he can't see a thing from up there;)

sorry Marsha, I'm one of those people who feel that if Bruce is gonna work is a-- of for three hours, the least I can do is stand up and have a good time.....we have our whole lives to sit on our butts, and just cause a song is slow doesn't mean it's nap time. and the lights were pretty dim so i think he saw me....not that i would've sat down even if he had his eyes closed.

can't make it to LOD sadly...gotta work

BD,
I know what you mean, it seems like every little thing reminds me of the last tour.

Last Saturday, a bunch of friends and I went to see a band that plays a boat load of Bruce tunes. At the beginning of the second set, they played Badlands, and right on cue half the bar started with the Whoa Oh Ohooo audience part. The lead singer, also a huge E Street fan, actually started laughing and said "damn, how many shows did you guys go to?" they finished badlands and played 5 more in a row ending with Meeting and Jungleland.
They then opened the third set with She's the One and then four more.

My voice was just about gone, also a fond memory from the tour.

Can't wait til the next one!

Toots,
Must be a PA thang.
I believe Steve would have said, 'Yanking yer chain'.
Haven't tried on the porkpie. That hat doesn't get shared.

I see you've stolen my favorite photo on the eyecandy thread ;)
My favorite part is that you can see Bruce is cracking up, what's yours?

I guess what I remember most was the anticipation of seeing the final four shows. I'd met lots of people before/during/after other stops, but being in the 'City' for the last of the tour was an incredible feeling.

Most of my favorite memories were attributable to those I was with...

...Beginning with the pre-show get together each night at Harry's (of course) !!!

6/26: Finally meeting Obs & 78 and sitting/standing/self-upgrading seats with Philly !

6/27: alley!!! Need I say more? We had become good friends via the Lake chat and we sat together on the 12th row for this memorable show. A wonderful, warm, friendly lady (which isn't new to anyone who knows her).

6/29: alley and I sat together again (a bit further back), but had a great time with everyone. I remember Billy and his shirt and poster that night (I hope I have the right show) !

7/1: The final night I sat alone, but did I really? After the show wandering the city. Eating pizza at (what time was it?) at Haliel's with MsNFP, Karen and whoever ! Staying out til 3 or 4 a.m.

The friends made the week as memorable as the shows !

Taking the train to NY City by myself was a thrill for me. Ok I don't get around much.

Meeting Obs, 78 ( aka TG) Txfan, without whom I would not of had a ticket for 6/26...and of course Mr.Promise !

Getting to see Alley again and Rich NY on 6/17, and of course Gypsyangel, had a great time hanging out at Mustangs before the show.

Seeing some old friends in NY City was so exciting..Scoot, Billy, Dirtyannie, Janiegirl, Janie99....and others I'm sure I am forgetting to mention..

And the shows of course...E Street Shuffle...She's the One, Downbound Train, For you..just to mention a few...well of course they were all outstanding.

Here's hoping we're doing it again soon !!

So many highlights from MSG - but since you posted Darren, I was at a show with your bro and Greg (a reunion from the old days of Bruce shows in itself), and that night we heard "Downbound Train", "Night", "For You", and on and on. What a high!

TW,

catching up on posts here, before ER comes on, and just saw the rest of this thread. I'll be there, in your backyard, to see this band; ya just gotta let me know when and where. :) I think I can do an 8-hour road trip to Cleveland by myself.
