They just flashed the sad news on TV in LA. Knew it was coming, but still can't believe it. Just feeling very sad about George and all that he had to go through.

I'm so sad, but at the same time, I'm so grateful. George gave us a real precious gift. His music, and the music of that band has made me so happy and helped make my life so full. It's just such a sad yet grateful feeling to know that life is so good. I'm just so grateful for George and for music in general... as the tears drip down on to my keyboard...

I just woke up and couldn't fall asleep again. I decided to check out the boards, and went to the mod area first, where db44 had posted.

We have lost someone who has changed our lives for the better. I hope he knows how much better he made our lives. I hope George is free from pain and suffering, and that he is truly in a better place.

McCartney devastated at loss of 'baby brother' George
Sir Paul McCartney says he is devastated to hear of George Harrison's death.

He paid tribute to the guitarist's courage through his long battle with cancer.

McCartney says he had always viewed Harrison, who he introduced to John Lennon, as a sibling.

Speaking outside his London home, he said: "I am devastated and very very sad. We knew he'd been ill for a long time.

"He was a lovely guy and a very brave man and had a wonderful sense of humour. He is really just my baby brother."

McCartney said that although he knew George had been ill for quite some time he said he has always hoped that some kind of miracle might happen.

He said: "He had a long battle with his cancer and I saw him a few weeks ago and he was full of fun and he always was.

"A lovely guy who is full of humour as I was saying. When I saw him last time he was obviously very unwell but he was cracking jokes like he always was and he'll be sorely missed. He's a beautiful man. The world will miss him."

The Quiet One has been silenced.

It feels like yet another piece of our own youth has been taken.

Sleep in peace, my friend.

The dark gray skies over Boston certainly reflect my feelings right now.

Rest in peace, George, and please know that your gift....your musical gift....the gift you shared with all the world these past four decades...will live on forever, and will continue to bring joy and pleasure to all those who are touched by it.

Woke up before the alarm this morning and turned on the TV and heard the news on VH1 (they are running a 1997 interview of George called His Last Performance).

Can't believe it, even though I knew it was coming due to the nature of his illness.

A great voice and conscience has been silenced, but the sound will continue on throughout history.

Rest in Peace George.

You know it's coming but it doesn't matter. Still hurts, 2 of 4 now gone....what music they must be playing together, him and John......
Woke up hearing My Sweet Lord on the radio, all I said to Ace was, "oh....." and we fell back asleep. Ace then heard it later on the tv and came up to tell me......
My favorite's gone. But the music remains and he's free of the pain he had to have been in. With his strong beliefs in God and reincarnation who knows....... he'll always be with us!

Wow. Everything in my musical foundation came from the Beatles.

I hope he didn't suffer.

Any way you look at it, the man had a magical life, full of experiences we can only imagine. Let's concentrate on that. He will live on in his music.

I heard it as soon as I woke up this morning. Truly a sad day. I'm not a huge Beatles fan, but George was my favorite of the four.

You guys can say things much better than I can.

RIP George, you will be missed.

I know for certain that my husband will accomplish very little today... I had a Beatles lunchbox in 3rd grade...the metal one, blue, with just the heads of the Beatles on the front. When I was in my first group--three 10-yr-old girls covering whatever they could, singing at mother/daughter banquets and such--our first song? "Your mother should know"

As I read the words of Paul McCartney, I am overwhelmed. I can't begin to imagine the loss he feels. I will say prayers today for the friends and family of George Harrison.

Peace.

You're right Annie, they did make us feel immortal and invincable but I guess we are not. The music is though. Too painful to say much-I just see his face through the years but will always remember him as in that early photo Gee posted.

My favorite ... can't believe it ... but I do picture him singing these infamous words even at his darkest hour ... he just had so much faith:

"Here come the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it's all right"

RIP George ...

I know this loss only to well - George has left this world and the pain and suffering he was no doubt in - but his family and friends are now left to suffer his loss - may you find strength and peace (at least at times) in the memories you carry and in knowing that he will now truly find that peace and quiet he always yearned for -
Smoking - what is it good for???? - ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!

sorry, but this one hits too close to home and I've been watching George's battle with every bit of hope that he could beat it - he was only 58!!!!!!!!!!

We'll miss you George -

May you rest in peace

I too saw the VH-1 interview for a few minutes this morning. It looked like one of those you did not want to walk away from, but I had to go to work. I thought nothing of it until I got in the car and tuned in WFPK and they were playing Crackerbox Palace; then I thought to myself, uh-oh. After the song the DJ confirmed my suspicion. WFPK played all George all morning in his honor. More in the 5 oclock hour today at www.wfpk.org

George passed away on the 19th anniversery of my own father's death. My dad was 63, and George 58. I remember thinking when my dad died that he had lived a good long life. Now I am closer to his age at death than I am to my age when he died. Suddenly it doesn't seem to be so long of a life. I guess if anything, the message as we have learned too often of late, is to be thankful for every day and really appreciate the people in our lives, because some day....all things must pass.

Thank you George, rest in peace. We thank God for blessing us your spirit while on this earth.

With 2 of the 4 now gone from this earth, I am also reminded how lucky we really are to still have the entire E Street Band around for nearly 30 years. Wow....let's enjoy and appreciate every minute of the time that they share with us, their fans.

It is terribly sad that Mr. George Harrison passed away at such a young age. He had so so much more to teach us. He had such a great sense of humanity and dignity. God gave him a wonderful gift, not just as a musician but as a very kind person. God bless you George and thank you for making my life a little better.

It's a terrible thing.

John in New York and George in Los Angeles.

We are all older and diminished by his loss.

I saw the Dark Horse tour back in 1974 and remember it warmly still. I will continue to do so, in George's warm-hearted memory.

George Harrison's family asks fans to join in minute of meditation

By JEFF WILSON=

Associated Press Writer=

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ The family of late Beatle George Harrison expressed thanks for the outpouring of affection by fans following his death this week and asked for a minute of meditation Monday as a tribute to the musician.

"We are deeply touched by the outpouring of love and compassion from people around the world," said a statement from Harrison's wife, Olivia, and son, Dhani. "The profound beauty of the moment of George's passing _ of his awakening from this dream _ was no surprise to those of us who knew how he longed to be with God. In that pursuit, he was relentless."

The statement was released late Saturday by family friend Gavin de Becker.

Harrison died of cancer Thursday in Los Angeles. He was 58. A family funeral has already been held.

As a tribute, Harrison's widow and son asked fans to join them Monday for a minute of meditation.

"Olivia and Dhani invite you to join them in a minute of meditation in honor of George's journey, wherever you are on Monday at 1:30 p.m. PST (1830 GMT)," de Becker said.

The intensely private and spiritual Harrison was known as the quiet Beatle.
