Hi everyone
Just got back from the rehearsals in Asbury Park. You can hear great from outside on the beach and it's 70 degrees!
Feels more like Memorial Day weekend. Real strange.
OK, before I go into detail on what was played at the rehearsals, I know some may not want to know, so I will give the drop line information first and then put some spacing in so you won't find out anything you don't want to.
First the drop-line information.
I spoke to Lil who asked me to pass on this information. Lil works for Concerts East I believe and has always handled the drop lines for all of the Bruce shows here in Asbury Park. She is a pro, knows what she's doing, and has dealt with many of you before. She knows how it all works.
The drop line will be on the southside of Convention Hall. by the Howard Johnsons. There is construction going on there of the boardwalk but she says it will start on the sidewalk by the HoJos and go down by the street.
She says it has to be 30 different people being the first in line for each show.
For example, if you're No. 10 in the drop line for Monday's show, the best you can do for another show is No. 31. They want to get in as many different people as possible.
She will keep the list after each show and will want to see an ID to match up with the name.
She also said they will be dropping tickets for each show, she doesn't know how many, but there may not be a lot of tickets.
You have to pay cash for the dropline ticket, most likely it will be $100, and as usual, it's just one ticket per person.
She also said there better not be any problems, because she'll cut it off then.
General admission ticket holders will line up on the southside of the boardwalk also. I'm not sure exactly where because most of the boardwalk there is fenced off for the construction. Maybe they'll pick some of it up by Monday. Stay tuned in case this changes.
OK now to the rehearsals:
WARNING, STOP READING NOW IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT THEY REHEARSED:
They started around noon, it was Bruce, the Max Weinberg 7, Patti, Soozie Tyrell and maybe Lisa Lowell.
The first song they worked on was a bit of Thundercrack. This could have just been for a soundcheck in Convention Hall because they didn't play the whole song.
Next they worked on a couple of Beatles songs! Obviously as a tribute to George Harrison.
They played "Something" about four-five different times and I think it may bring tears to all our eyes on Monday if he does play it.
Just beautiful is all I can say.
Next they went into "My Sweet Lord." They played it about four to five times too. Just magical. The guitar solo (by Bruce I would assume) was tremendous.
The female singers - Patti, Soozie and Lisa - did the backup vocals, sounded great from the beach. You could really hear well.
Next up was "Jingle Bell Rock" which they played quite a few times. It sounded great and Soozie on the violin and horns kicked in on the end.
The Max Weinberg 7 then worked on an instrumental and then another song with someone singing (Jimmy Vivivo?) which I didn't recognize, maybe an old blues tune.
I then had to run home and get ready to work (and type this report up) but I called Carl from RMAS on his cell phone and he said the next song was Run Rudolph Run with Bruce singing.
And after that they started workin on "Thundercrack" again.
Scoot Big man and Broadway Mary were also in attendance.
You can hear great on the beach and it's beautiful out.
I'll call Carl to file more songs and Scoot I'm sure will have a report also.
These are going to be five awesome shows in Asbury Park.
