I was gonna put in the paperwork for my time off at Christmas (couple weeks or so), and I left the sheet sitting on my desk so I could get my boss to validate it, but since I filled it out he's been NOWHERE to be seen the last day or so, I KNOW he's here, cuz his jacket's there and all... must be hiding cuz he saw it

sophisticatedmoma
Dec 5th, 2001, 09:26 AM
Well to be honest...NO....but that would look kind of funny and I don't think my boss would appreciate it. Thanks for the idea though ;) :p
Found your boss yet?
TrueB&B_BritFan
Dec 5th, 2001, 09:27 AM

Eti do me a favor if you become a nurse learn the manuel, my cousin dislocated his jaw in a hockey game last week and the nurse had to use the manuel to do X-rays. thats comforting. lol.
sophisticatedmoma
Dec 5th, 2001, 09:59 AM

hey everyone!!!
glad to hear everyone's days are going well....it's good to hear us not complain every once in a while, y'know?....although why am i confident that if we didn't have to work we would all be much happier people?!?!?! ;)
sophisticatedmoma
Dec 5th, 2001, 11:16 AM
Hey Drama :)
I think you can be confident in that.....
I think I am gonna have ice cream for lunch.....I had it for dinner last night but I guess I didn't have enough..........

well that's kinda the point of vacation gettin' away from work and stuff :o lol
sophisticatedmoma
Dec 5th, 2001, 11:29 AM
Are you going to see your parents?
Drama
Dec 5th, 2001, 11:32 AM
all this talk of vacation REALLY isn't good motivation while at work!!!!
unfortunately, i don't get any time off around christmas....think my next long weekend will be in march....*sigh*....then again....i can always get "sick" ;)
sophisticatedmoma
Dec 5th, 2001, 11:35 AM
I had to take time off for Christmas, we only get Christmas day off and I want to spend it with my parents and since its on Tuesday this year it makes it hard to travel.
TrueB&B_BritFan
Dec 5th, 2001, 11:37 AM
yep, going back to Ohio for a couple weeks :)
not much choice w/ transportation though :o lol...
don't wanna fly back now (part cuz of what all happened lately, part cuz I didn't care much for it all before and now it'd be a pain in the butt w/ the changes... and partly, cuz last Christmas I got that REALLY bad double ear infection after I got back home cuz of the flight :(... don't ever wanna do that again *sigh* )
Amtrak doesn't go to Ohio, and the rental car places around here apparently only want like a round trip rental, so I'd have to keep the car for 2 weeks, AND have to pay extra insurance on it (cuz my car isn't covered on my insur) all that and I wouldn't be even doing nothing but drive it out there park it for 2 weeks, then drive back... they wanted like almost $1000 (gas NOT included) and I wouldn't even use it for like couple days basically http://talk.livedaily.citysearch.com/images/icons/suspicious3_technical.gif
looking at taking like the Greyhound bus in... a little longer trip (like 24 hr bus trip w/ couple hour layovers/transfers), but it's only like $200 round trip (and no gas to pay for)
sophisticatedmoma
Dec 5th, 2001, 11:43 AM
Yikes!! I dunno True, I think I would take the bus also. Everything else either....costs way too much or you had a bad experience (ear infections). 24 hours is a long time but you do have 2 weeks :o
Drama
Dec 5th, 2001, 11:45 AM
i'm not a fan of flying either (never have been)....but the airports aren't too bad....the main thing i saw that was different when i flew a couple weeks ago was the checking of carry-on bags at the gates....they randomly check some people at the gates, and they go through EVERYTHING.....so don't bring wrapped presents b/c they'll make you unwrap them to look inside....luckily i just had a single carry-on with not much in it & packed everything else....now it really IS easier to check your baggage in rather than go through all of that, y'know?

"you have reached Drama's phone, she' busy hunting down and inflicting much pain and suffering on the last person that left a message for her... if you want to leave a message please state your name, phone number, and supposed reason for disturbing Drama after the beep <<BEEP>>"

We have only had a few people come in to our office so far. I'm surprised cause generally this time of year there are tons of people coming to for a job.
Red50
Dec 5th, 2001, 02:23 PM
We've had a lot of applicants... but my company is under a nationwide hiring freeze. With the economy the way it is, I imagine a lot of companies are experiencing the same thing.
Not a good time to be looking for a job, unfortunately.
sophisticatedmoma
Dec 5th, 2001, 02:48 PM
Yeah, you would think places like K-Mart would hire though, I was there on my lunch and they only had 2 lines open. Thats just craziness!!
jennsync28
Dec 5th, 2001, 02:51 PM
Hi Guys!
Red~ Our company is in the same no hiring phase... Although we do have some temps coming in which is a good sign because we had previously let all our temps go.
Red50
Dec 5th, 2001, 02:52 PM
Places like K-Mart & Wal-Mart that have like 40 check out stands but will put maybe 5 cashiers out regardless of how long the lines are very irritating.
Drama
Dec 5th, 2001, 02:58 PM
i work in retail, and believe it or not, WE are on a hiring freeze right now....we had to petition to hire seasonal help!!! and those positions went really fast.....i've been looking around at jobs lately too, and unfortunately, i can't find anything
sophisticatedmoma
Dec 5th, 2001, 03:03 PM
Drama I can understand the department stores more so then K-mart and Wal-mart.
After hearing about all the people that have lost their jobs lately I am just thankful to have mine. It may be a pain sometimes but it supports me.
Drama
Dec 5th, 2001, 03:23 PM
unfortunately, sophmom, i must agree with you.....but just b/c i'm thankful doesn't mean they can make me actually enjoy my job....if only there was some way to escape the whole bureaucratic politics that run ALL businesses these days.....
Britney Freak
Dec 5th, 2001, 03:26 PM
You know what is very interesting. A radio station had a little discussion on this the other day on how some people that have a bachlor's degree, but end up working retail because of all the hiring came to a screeching halt.
But, hell my dad was laid off and he is having a hard time getting one. MOFO Marshall's pulling out of their deal. I'm thankful I do got a job. I really don't have a choice now do I?
