Let me explain why..

A record company would never let go of an artist that sells..

Hypothetical situation here: Let's say Christina put out 1 album, and it sold pretty well.. She releases another album, it doesn't even chart.. She goes back to the studio to record another album, releases that one, and that doesn't chart at all either.. RCA would be forced to drop her from the label because she isn't worth as much as they intially thought.. And what is the point of keeping an artist signed with a label if they aren't selling anything.. Right? They are told to, pretty much, pack their bags and go..

A record company won't let go of the money makers.. If Christina decided that she wanted a better deal than what she has, she can shop for a new label who will offer more money per albums, (ie, Mariah's deal with Virgin) but she will have to fulfill her contractual agreements with RCA first, or else, she will have to go to court.. But a record company doesn't let a sucessful artist go after one album... If the first album sold next to nothing, then that would be a different story..

Mi Reflejo sold 43,000 its first week and then dropped like a rock until Christmas sales picked it up. MKOC did around the same thing. Her only big things have been done for other labels and/or side projects not directly associated with RCA. NWTBL, which was a Rocky Martin song and on Ricky's album, and LM, which was a soundtrack release, whihc probably wasn't for RCA either. So what has she done for RCA lately?

Well, when you look at the big picture, her debut album, MR, MKOC and her collaborations have helped to make her an internationally recognized artist. I highly doubt that RCA considers that a bad thing.
I also think that MR sold extremely well both here and abroad, especially if you compare it to the numbers for other latin albums. She was able to stay at #1 on latin billboard for like 20 weeks, even with competition like Luis Miguel.

The United States isn't the ONLY money-making country around. It's not the only country period. Mi Reflejo has sold like, what, 3 to 4 million copies worldwide in a year? That's very good. It sold exceptionally well in the US itself, selling an estimated number of 45,000 copies in it's first week. No real promotion here either.

The same thing with her Christmas album. It wasn't made to sell like Christina Aguilera was, but it too sold exceptionally well. It's not only platinum here but in Europe as well. We're talking about two albums that were neither highly focused on or severly promoted. Regardless of what label the hits she had THIS year were on, it's obvious she's still a hit/money maker. RCA would have to be crazy to let her go because she's not releasing an album every year.

CRL, I don't think Shelly was calling you on how much of a fan you were. I think she was saying that you didn't even appreciate Al when the letter finally got up on the website, I don't know, maybe i'm wrong, but that's how I interpreted it. Uh, there's not just two people who have something against the site there is a whole petition, so I recomend you check that out Shelly. There is a reason they are upset, and they do have a right to talk about it. They are upset because they feel material has been taken from their sites, without giving permission and Al sent out e-mails that were pretty rude and uncalled for to fans who asked him about it. But everyone does need to calm down about the official site, I suppose Al does his best. Both sides need to sort this out or it will be one of the main topics on the board for awhile. Tuesday, as I was waiting to see Chistmas with Christina, I got frustrated too. I'm not sure exactly what I posted although I don't think it was anything too negative. Now I feel horrible. Shelly and Christina might heve been on here. It was unusual for her to browse and not post. Here again, I don't think I was negative. Most of us were frustrated---anxious. I used to read almost all of Shelly's post. I've never ever heard her sound so upset. I do think we should all try to be more positive. I know I am in the future. Unfortunatly, I don't know that much about computers, web masters etc., so I can't have an expert opinion about some of this. I do know that I love Christina, Shelly, Rachelle and the rest of the family. It is sooo sad and unfortunate that what was once such a good, positive experience for everyone has soured so.
