cross posted from greasylake without permission!
The following is from today's Asbury Park Press. I thought it was nice.
Bruce Springsteen donated profits from his series of concerts, presented in early December at Convention Hall in Asbury Park, to 13 local nonprofit organizations. Among the recipients was Asbury Park's Hope Academy Charter School. In return, first through fifth grade students at the school wrote thank you notes to the singer for his contributions. Here's a sample of some of their letters and art.
"I want to thank you for giving us money. I wish I could meet you in person. Nowe we can afford to go the NY Museum of Natural History. Can you please sing us one of your songs? So thanks again for giving us money for trips and school supplies."--Racquel C. Andrews
-------
"I would like to thank you for the generous donation to the Hope Academy Charter School. We will use the money for school supplies and educational trips. I also would like to thank you for picking our school out of all the other Asbury Park schools to give the donation to." --Ashley Fabien, Fifth Grade
"P.S. Can you come to our school?"
------
"I hope you are all right. You are taking care of us with the money. You are nice to us and we want to be nice to you. We love you and I love you, too. Because you are so good, Santa will bring you toys when you are sleeping on Christmas. I hope you are going to have a happy Christmas and you sing a lot of songs on Christmas day."--Paulette, Second Grade

So I was skimming that last one really fast and thought it said "We want to be sleeping with you." and I was gonna say, "Take a number and stand in line, honey."

Nice letters. In regards to the last one, what songs do you think Bruce sings at home (besides Red Headed Woman)?

Lori that was the funniest thing I've read all year!
She swiped these lines from me, could be Paulette's first lawsuit:
'You are nice to us and we want to be nice to you. We love you and I love you, too."

So now I have to wish I am back in grade school, because that might be my only chance to meet Bruce. Yes, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't show up there one day.
Thanks for the post Toots.

"I want to thank you for giving us money. I wish I could meet you in person"
Hey, the second sentences sounds so familar to me but why the hell can't I say the first one, too? The rest could be like this:
"Nowe we can afford to go all to the BAT III and to rent a stylish place for it. Can you please sing us one of your songs? So thanks again for giving us money for trips and drinks."-- piwi

Lori and Marsha - you two gave me a good laugh! So true, so true - "get in line, honey"!!!!!!
That is so great! Do you think Bruce does like the President does, if you send him a letter then you get on his christmas list????
Or better yet, like Santa, if you send him a wish list do you get what is on it??????? Hmmmmmm, something to ponder and dream about!
Thanks Toots, that truly did bring a smile:)

I sent Reagan a gift and I never got on his Christmas list. I sent him a copy of Voice of America with a note saying since he was such a big springsteen fan, I thought he might enjoy this as well. His secretary sent me the nicest thank you note.

Is there a GA list? Because if not, I'm cutting!
I too wrote a Dear Mr. Springsteen letter ( a Christmas card) but haven't heard back yet.
Love this thread. Did you know that there is a book called Dear Mr. Springsteen? It's a young adult book about a kid who wants to give a benefit concert. I've been trying to get it for a little while.

Reminds me of High School. In 1981, I was such a big fan (and on the Prom dance committee), that I actually suggested Mr. Springsteen and band play at our formal. Others thought it was a good idea, but we never heard back from his camp. Not that I was crushed or anything...

"Everybody form a line"
On a more serious note, I think it's great that Bruce donated money to the Asbury Park's Hope Academy Charter School. Since my daughter attends a charter school here in NJ as well, I know first hand how hard it is to raise funds needed for special activities and "all the extras" that traditional public/private schools have to offer. Being a hands-on parent in your child's education is really something special. It's alot of work for me but for the education she is getting ... it is well worth my time, effort and donations.
