Hi all,

We just wanted to let all of you who supported this endeavor know that over $3300 dollars was sent yesterday to Mrs. Charles Karczewski. She should be receiving it today by Federal Express. It took us awhile to get together but Dari and I finally got to sit down this week and figure out the total earned after her expenses. One of the other problems had been who to send the money to. Dari had spent hours online looking for a "Bruce" family.

We had been told by our board member Shabour that Jim Berger's family was still in a good financial position and didn't need the money. Stan came up with the name of Charles Karczewski. His brother-in-law, John Cavanaugh, is an acquaintance of Stan's and a local photographer. Some of you may know his work.

We also want to thank a few people in particular. Both Lesterx and Tooth Fairy spent time on their day off helping us do this. Thanks to both of you.You are the best!

For her generous contribution over and above what was asked, we want to thank Esther of Coram, NY.
She took the money she had originally ear-marked for another charity and sent it to us instead.

Words cannot express our gratitude to Dari for her tireless effort that she put into this project. She made and shipped all of the shirts on her own time while trying to run a business all to benefit someone in need. She is a saint for taking on this project and those of you who know her knows that she has a heart of gold. Dari, we love you dearly!

For all of you who bought a shirt, thank you, thank, thank you! It was a pleasure working with so many of you. Everyone was kind and overly generous in the real spirit of this thing. It makes me proud to have been a member of this board since the very beginning. In fact when I think about it, Livedaily has raised close to $8000 this year for different charities. I'm not sure that other places do this, but we deserve to pat ourselves on the back. This is what the real spirit of Christmas is all about.

God Bless all of you and may you all have a safe and wonderful holiday!

Love,
Cindy

Wow...I knew this was the goal of the project, but it really gives me a shot in the gut to see that it happened! Many, many thanks to all involved...what a great, great thing you did.

For those that don't know, Dari sometimes is overwhelmed to the point of distraction by people pulling her in different directions. She is (rightly so) seen as the queen of all things Bruce, and oftentimes well-meaning people ask her for too much, or try to take too much of her time. She is always gracious, sometimes almost to a fault, but she can only do so much.

but something like this comes along...and wow...she demonstrates yet again why she is the Queen. i'm proud to have gotten to "know" her in the last 2+ years. She is one of a kind!

Oh, and Sherry, Lester, Tooth Fairy....thank you, thank you, thank you...if you do nothing else charitable this holiday season, you have earned your warm, fireside relaxation!

Lives Remembered

Charles Karczewski, 34, an adventurer

10/13/01

An e-mail from Chuck Karczewski was unpredictable -- it could stun you with the name of a charity he'd promised you would contribute to or contain a comic formula for building a championship Rutgers University football team.

"He would say if we could look at some police rosters and see who was available to play, maybe we could have a winning team," said his friend James Wiggins, a California osteopath who attended Rutgers with Mr. Karczewski in the late 1980s.

They were witty and good-natured missives, typical of the 34-year-old Union Township man, an insurance benefits consultant who loved adventure and gave generously to churches, Boy Scouts, the United Way and others.

"He was so full of life and so willing to give, a very charitable person," Wiggins said. "Now that he's gone, I really don't look at my e-mail too much."

Charles "Chuck" Henry Karczewski phoned his wife on Sept. 11, leaving a voice mail message at her job that described the fiery plane crash at One World Trade Center.

From the offices of AON Corp., an insurance and consulting firm on the 102nd floor of the South Tower, Mr. Karczewski said he would call again when he arrived safely downstairs. That was the last Philomena Karczewski would hear from him.

Mrs. Karczewski watched on television as a second plane slammed into the South Tower.

"That's my husband," she recalled telling a co-worker. "In my eyes, I saw him get killed."

Mrs. Karczewski remembered her spouse of 61/2 years as an adventure seeker who enjoyed skydiving in Sussex County, kayaking in the Pacific Ocean and snorkeling and parasailing in the Caribbean.

"He had a serious side, but he liked to live on the edge," said Kim Ferguson of Hillsborough, a friend since second grade.

Mrs. Karczewski said her husband loved to travel. For his 30th birthday, she surprised him with a Baja, Calif., vacation, wrapping the airline tickets in his swim trunks.

He had no children, but doted on a cocker spaniel named "Baby" and a yellow Labrador retriever, "Princess," that, since Sept. 11, sleeps on a bed of Mr. Karczewski's old shirts and usually refuses to eat.

Princess "looks at everyone who comes in, and when she realizes it's not him, she puts her head down and walks away," Philomena Karczewski said.

Mr. Karczewski was born in Bayonne, but spent his entire life in Union, his wife said.

Mr. Karczewski also is survived by his parents, Rose and Henry Karczewski of Union, and a sister, Donna Kavanaugh of Jackson.

A memorial gathering will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 27 at Haeberle & Barth in Union, followed by a memorial Mass at St. Genevieves Church in Elizabeth.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Charles H. Karczewski Memorial Scholarship, c/o the Rutgers University Foundation, 7 College Ave., New Brunswick, N.J. 08901.

Hello Everyone,

I know this is a little late but with everything going on with my family over the last month or so and with the very tough holidays I have been slow to write this email.

First I want to thank everybody for there kind words of encouragement whenever we met during the last few months. *I also what to thank everyone for your kind emails.
This has been one of the hardest holiday times to get though and because of all of your kind words and emails my families pain has been soften a great deal.

As for the benefit concert for my Brother-in-law (Charles Karczewski) and for his good friend on coworker (Jim Berger) on Dec. 7th at the Stone Pony it was a great success we raised just over $3000 dollars that will be split between there two charities. My family thanks everyone who came and to everyone that brought raffle tickets or purchased any of my photographs that night. I also want to thank Bobby Bandiera and his band, Southside Johnny, Nils Lofgren, and all of the other artist that stopped by to jam after the Bruce Springsteen Concert in Asbury that night. I was a very special night for my family and for the Berger family. I also want to thank Maggie Powell and everybody at "The Wish" for there wonderful donation. I also want to thank everyone that donated prizes for the raffle that night and made the raffle a great success

I want to thank Joan & Xavier and everyone at the Stone Pony Fan Club in Spain. They dedicated there last fan magazine (#35) to my Brother-in-law.

I want to thank everyone a Backstreets Magazine, Point Blank Magazine and all of my European friends for your support.

Last but not least I want to thank Domenic, Eileen, Pete, and everyone at the Stone Pony. Everyone at the Pony has been such a great help to my family and are greatly appreciated.

I also want to thank everyone who has sent money to my brother-in-laws Memorial College Scholarship fund individually.

I also have a special thanks you everyone at the Live Daily Message board who raised over $3000 by selling specially designed tee shirts to raise money for my sister-in-law. I just found out about this a little over a week ago and this kindness has really touched my family a great deal. An extra special thanks goes to Stan Goldstein for his help in this project.

As a final note I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday and a Very Happy New Year
.
Thanks,
The John Cavanaugh Family
