View Full Version : Where the Boys are

I don't quite know how to say this but the Boys are not.......perfect. Please, don't scream and yes, it was a shock to me too, but, well, there you are. That having been said I found that I have had to blithely ignore some things that I would normally be up in arms about and I've had to leave some things behind on this (A Group Called Journey) Into The Land of Backstreet.

I've had to ignore my dislike of earrings, bad grammar (everyone else aside, I don't think I'll EVER get over "Men Strikes back concert," car wreck choreography (you know it's painful but you can't look away), condom hats, stocking caps with little picks in them that look like they were actually made from stockings, big fat fake braids, rambling discourses, surly men, indecisive men, an avalanche of small dogs, mad pimping and occasional cheesiness. (I've come to LOOOOOVE all this stuff. How I love these men!)

I've left by the wayside my sanity, dignity, common sense, maturity, wads of cash spent on things that mean something only to me, good sense, objectivity, a life and (didn't really have one of those anyway) and sleep.

Anybody else?

one word: skirt

Who would've thought one day I'd go out of my way to defend a man's right to wear a skirt because I found it sexy?

Blondes-I ignore all blonde men, but Nickay

Long hair: ok nevermind I still don't like that....

Tattoo covered arms! Usually a turn off for me but I learned to love AJ's all except that dang Poopy tattoo

amen sista!!! ESPECIALLY on the life and money thing! about 18 months ago, i was a typical, normal college girl. in that time, i've become a travel agent, a researcher, a stalker, a WHIZ at finding anything and everything on the internet, a pop-music advocate, i've learned more things about these five guys than i could ever possibly know about myself, i've put hundreds of miles on my poor little car, i went into a hooters (GASP! something i would NEVER do, but considering the circumstance that aj was in there, i felt i could make an exception), and i've spent more money on one-hour photo developing than i did on my wardrobe! (cause god forbid i'd have to wait to see pictures from a concert i was at only hours before.), and lastly, i've regressed to a 13 year old. my friends and i would go to walmart specifically to get teenybopper magazines. my dorm room was covered floor to ceiling with posters and pictures printed from the computer! i don't feel pathetic talking to other bsb fans my age, cause chances are you are doing the same damn things and...IT'S GREAT! swapping CRAZY stories are the best! :) these boys just don't know the extent that they really affect our lives!!!

Before Backstreet came into my world, I was a die-hard 80s rock fan. I can't remember the last time I listened to Van Halen! And ballads  NO WAY! Now, I can't get enough of them - but only BSB will do.

And Tt I agree about the tattoos! I've never known anyone that could wear them so well !

And lusting over younger men.... well that's just something about me that will never change LOL

Geeze, BSB love is truly blind! The list of things I once thought I'd never do and now am doing all for the love of BSB is longer than I want to admit. Somehow no matter what they do, it's okay and usually more than okay, it's cute, adorable, sexy, wonderful, etc. I do wonder sometimes what they would have to do to make me utter a single disparaging word about them. And, to my amazement, their imperfections just make me love them more. Why is it that Nick grabbing/touching himself every minute is erotic, sexy, hot, etc. yet if my husband/lover/friend whatever did that I probably be appalled! LOL. When I hear myself defending BSB to nonbelievers I think good god girl do you hear yourself. Oh, well, such is the life of a BSB fan!

Do any of you remember when wifebeaters were reserved only for fat, balding men with guts or full-blown rednecks who smelled funny? Now I just pray daily that we'll get a chance to see Kevin in one again - without a shirt covering it up!
I'm not sure what they could do that I wouldn't end up defending - although Nick's dew rag was a close call..

Geezer, why do you have to constantly make us face up to and admit our total lack of objectivity toward the Boys?

1. I do not like tattoos, but pre-AJ, could tolerate maybe a small one in an area that could be covered up if need be. Now, I not only find AJ's tattoos sexy (except for Poopy and JD, AJ what were you THINKING? Oh, sorry, obviously, you WEREN'T thinking) but I am actually considering getting my own tattoo.

2. I detest facial piercings, but for some reason, AJ's looks good on him.

3. I am extremely anal about grammar and pronunciation, but find it totally lovable when Nicky or any of the Boys murders the English language.

4. My daughter and I always refer to the VH1 show as "Men Strikes Back" and laugh. If anyone else had said that, we would have ridiculed them forever.

5. Kevin's "Nobody But You" number on the Homecoming video provides us with a good laugh everytime, but we always make excuses as to why Kevin was obviously forced to perform in such a humiliating manner. Likewise, when he does his only free style dance move, we just chuckle and think it is so Kevin. Anybody else, we would never stop making fun of.

6. AJ's rumored antics would turn me off as a fan if he were anybody else, but because my obsessive interest has given me an insight into his personality, I make excuses as to why he does some of this stuff. He would have to do something truly horrible before I would even consider any harsh criticism.

I think it is so true that the thing we love most about the Boys, both individually and as a group, is that they are not perfect and don't pretend to be. They just try to do their best to be good people, to be good entertainers, and to be true to themselves and to their fans. They are real people who had a dream and worked hard to achieve it. They haven't forgotten where they came from and that's why I will defend them to the death against all naysayers.

*Snicker, snicker* That is sooo funny that you mentioned the Kevy solo on the Homecoming CD!!! My daughter and I were watching it late last night and falling on top of each other laughing and trying to dance like that....but it was all with love. It is just soo funny to see Kevy do those moves and be out there on his own . LOL. But, I agree, they aren't perfect and aren't trying to be so that doesn't make them bad, it just makes them more human. With our Boys, I think it is definitely "what you see is what you get!!". They are refreshingly real and that is the biggest appeal they have besides sexiness, talent, humor,.....well, everything else in the world!!!!!!!!;)

In my Love for this men I have really broken one of my cardinal rules and that was to never ever chase a man or bask in all his glory I don't care who he is and until 4 years ago I was doing pretty good then along come these five talented and absolutely gorgeous guys and out goes this most important rule in my life that for 27 years had kept all the jerks away. 4 years later I find myself completely insane over these guys having spent thousands of dollars on them, followed all over the country, have pictures of them all over my house like they're family, I can't walk into a store without coming out with something BSB. I would follow these men thru hell and back with no complaint and why I have no idea, they're just in my system and there's no getting them out. Before BSB I would of thought a women chasing a man or a man chasing a women for any reason was a true lunatic but now I see it as love.

well let's see...i've broken my:
1- no stalking rule
2- no listening to anything but country, ghetto talking annoys the hell out of me- however nicky's voice is the ONLY exception
3- i never charged ANYTHING on my credit cards except emergencies and now i have a whole card dedicated to bsb merchandice
4- there the only thing that makes me run to my 24 hour walgreens to have the pics the minute i get done with the concert
5 - men in skirts don't do it for me, but i made ONE exception
6- i go into those horrible mall stores looking for bsb stuff
7- i'm 20 years old and my room looks like i'm 12 with all the magazines and posters
8- i never thought i'd agree with my 7 year old cousin who has the same music taste as i do

geesh- what these boys make us do:D

Hellooooo! (throwing hands up in the air) How much more evidence do you need? These beings are blatantly obviously emotion-manipulating, will-sapping Emotari alien lizards in human suits!
Boo-yow!

i guess i just think that's part of the reason we do love them so much...that they aren't perfect. not being perfect is something i can easily relate to!
