View Full Version : In Your Opinion: Best 80's Album

I'm listening to Like A Prayer by Madonna and sooo many memories are coming flooding back to me as I realize there isn't a bad song on this album! Love Song, Dear Jesse, and Oh Father are some of my forgotten classics!

It got me thinking how funny it is that you can totally forget something ever existed until it's thrown in your face again.

So what's everyone else's choice for the best 80's album of all time?

Be prepared for a series of "IYO" threads... I know you're on the edge of your seat. ;)

Based upon the fact that I bought the tape twice, the record album and, recently, the CD, I will have to say, with much 80s New Wave/New Romantics pride:

Rio by Duran Duran. :D

Seven and the Ragged Tiger will come a close second, though. ;)

Violator was a great record! But wasn't it early 90s though? I thought the last DM record from the 80s was Black Celebration from '86ish. I'm such a nerd!

Not sure if it's the best of the entire decade, but it defined my teen years. Says a lot.

Grace Jones was the original slippery when wet. I wonder if it's a burden or a relief to be utterly and completely bizarre.

Did she own stock in Vaseline?

Are you implying she looks any less normal than Michael Jackson and his tiger cub or Richard Marx and his mane? The 80s were all about game cats evidently.

Def Leppard's Pyromania

And props to Sinister's pic of LL Cool J.

You mock. :p I correct. :D

Perhaps they were just big Sigfried and Roy fans. Michael could have gone for a picture with the Elephant Man's bones, so yeah, I consider that normal for him.

Normal for Grace Jones is apparently preparing in case she needs to do a luge minus the sled.

I guess they ran out of album art ideas since both covers look so similar.

I remember hearing "Personal Jesus" in '89, but I think "Violator" itself came out in '90. Oh, well, it's still a good album. If you want a Depeche Mode album that we know for sure came out in the '80s, I'd say "Music for the Masses."

May I also add.........

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000002652.01._PE_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpgLisa Lisa and Cult Jam with Full Force

Can't forget the freestyle album that started folks like Stevie B. and the Cover Girls.

Well it's nice to see we have a few 80's hip-hop fans in here. ;) The 80's were a great decade for hip-hop music, I'm not really into the new stuff, maybe that's just old fart syndrome kicking in.

ellenmed,

Yeah, Hammer kicked down Mr. Wellfare's door. ;)

the best album of the 80's? It'd have to be the one that marked a return to music for the front-man of (one of) the greatest rock and roll bands of all-time after a 10 year absence.

my pick ...

I see The Joshua Tree is listed... A good choice. Others mentioned already that I'd consider are Violator, She's So Unusual and... Well I love the album personally even though I don't know if I'd add it, but Invisible Touch

I'd add (unless I missed them):

Full Moon Fever -Petty
Vivid - Living Colour
Building the Perfect Beast - Henley
Reckless - Bryan Adams.
The Bridge - BJ

Man after my own heart, db. ;) Knew I liked you for a reason . . . Building the Perfect Beast is a classic . . . . And She's So Unusual! Have I mentioned that I've been Cyndi Lauper for Halloween no less than six times in my life? ;) :D
