Dateline NBC will feature Access' Pat O'Brien interview with American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson on April 18. Her debut album hit stores on April 15 and it may just knock artists like 50 Cent out of the top spot on the charts. Now, Kelly talks about the making of a star.
Kelly dashes from the limo to rehearsal to hair and makeup to a last minute wardrobe check -- then it's showtime! That was just a glimpse at the day in the life of the makings of a star. And some will now say that Kelly Clarkson is a full-fledged star.
In this past year, the 20-year-old has made her mark in Hollywood and around the country. "It's weird 'cause I'm from a small town so I'm used to everybody knowing my name. It's just on a bigger scale," Kelly told Pat.
Kelly is trying to be "independent", finding her own voice as an artist. But from their look to their sound, comparisons have already been made between Kelly and Christina Aguilera.
When asked about her nose ring, Kelly said: "I've had this and the tattoo on the back of my neck for last the past three years."
"It's the Kelly Clarkson we never knew," said Pat.
Ironically, Christina co-wrote Kelly's next big single "Miss Independent", much to Kelly's surprise. "Actually, I had no clue that she even wrote on it 'til after it was already on my album. I had no clue," said Kelly.
Christina wrote the song along with producer Rhett Lawrence for her Stripped album, but never used it. Kelly said Lawrence gave her the song to finish and put on her album.
"He was like, 'Well, actually I didn't even finish this song and I was actually working on other projects with it. But they don't want it any longer.' So I finished it up. I wrote the bridge on it and finished up the song and then we ended up doing it," revealed Kelly.
Kelly is living the dream life, but she told Access she's ready for whatever comes her way.
"It can not go wrong because life is just one road and there are many bumps in it. Let's just say this were to leave tomorrow, like let's just say everybody all of a sudden just didn't like me as a performer. I mean, I would go back home and I'd do something else -- singing in my church choir, being on stage, Broadway. I would sing because it's what I was meant to do."
