Now that the EPL is over, many transfers are going to happen sooner or later. I am sure some players from teams like Leeds and West Ham are going to sign themselves out. Speculate anyways, who do you want to see in your team?

If Defoe really has to leave then I hope Liverpool would get him to partner Owen. I think we need to get rid of Cheyrou and Biscan. Diouf is settling in more now and hopefully Diao will do the same.

Heard that PSG rejected Man Utd's interested in Ronaldino(sp?). I really don't know who can we get right now? Many people like to reject Man Utd's offer so that they can raise the price tag, and we will probably overspent again. :o I do think we need one striker and one left winger still and maybe a defender as a backup.

Just don't nick our Liverpool players lol! Although, you can have Biscan and Cheyrou if you want. LOL.

NEWCASTLE MOVE FOR BOWYER

Lee Bowyer will re-ignite his career by joining Newcastle United.

Bowyer, available on a free after leaving West Ham, is set to sign a £40,000-a-week, five-year deal on Tyneside.

Newcastle have so far refused to comment but Sky Sports News understands that the deal will go through.

Toon boss Bobby Robson is a long-term admirer of the energetic midfielder, who would link up again with former Leeds team-mate and close friend Jonathan Woodgate.

Both were in the dock for an alleged attack in Leeds city centre three years ago. Bowyer was cleared of all charges but defender Woodgate was found guilty of affray.

But Woodgate has looked a player reborn since joining the Magpies for £10million from Leeds in January, and Bowyer would love the Champions League stage that Newcastle would provide.

Bowyer has yet to undergo a medical as he is currently on holiday, but the only possible hitch could be the long-standing ankle injury which kept him out of West Ham doomed bid for survival.

Robson, however, knows it is not a serious problem and is keen to speed through the deal so he can turn his attention to Feyenoord's Australian winger Brett Emerton.

One major blip is Bowyer's six game UEFA ban picked up while he was a Leeds player. This will rule him out of the early stages of next season's Champions League.

Well I don't think many Newcastle fans are going to like that signing.

I spoke to my friend in Newcastle and she really doesn't want Bowyer to go to Newcastle. Sunderland goalkeeper Macho looks to be on his way to Chelsea.

Well nobody likes Bowyer, he is doomed! Same with Smith.

There's a story in today's NY Daily News that Man Utd. wants to get rid of Barthez and replace him with New York Metrostars goalie Tim Howard.

According to the article, Manchester have made "a decent offer."

Dreamer7

I think Barthez might leave. I like him though. I would want us to get an experience gk who can play in big games, thats it.

I'm not particularly pleased that Bower is coming to Newcastle, just as I wasn't pleased when Woodgate came here. I just don't think Bower can really bring anything to Newcastle, I don't think he's a great player.

muffins
May 23rd, 2003, 09:17 AM
Well, at least Alan Smith hasn't been accused of being racist. Anyway, it looks almost certain that Bowyer's going there now. Well, if anyone can sort him out, there's no-one like Sir Bobby.

Looks like Bowyer's on his way to Geordie-land.

Deal is done, Bowyer is a Magpie now. He is very lucky to get accepted by a good team. :o

I hope that Ronaldinho don't come to United, he seems like a good player but I can't see him being committed to us or as a Red Devil.

May 25th, 2003, 01:47 PM
OK, what position does Ronaldinho play in?

Dreamer7
May 25th, 2003, 06:07 PM
I think he is a midfielder, I wonder why do we still need anymore midfielders, bleh. If he does come he would probably play right behind RVN.

All the talk of Ronaldinho and now Kewell going to Manchester United has sparked the whole Beckham thing again. One newspaper said that if they go to Manchester United there won't be any room for Beckham or Giggs. C'mon, who would you choose? Beckham and Giggs or Kewell and Ronaldinho. I'd go with the first lot!

kev316
May 26th, 2003, 05:35 PM
Kewell plays behind Viduka at Leeds so I'd imagine he'd play in the same position at Man Utd with Van Nistelrooy. Ronaldinho would probably play in that position too if he joined. I don't think they'd go buy the both of them

muffins
May 27th, 2003, 02:40 PM
Liverpool apparently are going to get two teenagers from the French league from a club that was relegated. I can't remember their names but Houllier says they are "special." I hope these signings(if they are to be believed)pay off, unlike last season's signings.

There was a rumour that Chelsea had made an offer for Joe Cole of West Ham but West Ham have denied this.

Dreamer7
May 29th, 2003, 10:08 PM
Joe Cole might just leave who knows because he is marketable enough and as for Chelsea, Zola is probably leaving sooner or later so they need replacement.

I do think GH under-rates some of his past players, like the ex-gk and the two strikers you mentioned. Even Dudek almost gone out!

May 30th, 2003, 09:21 PM
I've heard about RVN going to Barcelona too. Is it true? He said earlier that he would love to end his career at Man Utd but now it seems that he's interested in moving to Barcelona. Plus he won't want to play for a club which won't be playing in the CL next season, would he?

Who knows? If I'm honest, I wouldn't miss Nistelrooy if he went, sorry, no offence to his fans. I don't think he'd go. OK, now Beckham has been linked to Roma now! It's getting funny now. He''l be linked to Cardiff City next lol! As regards to GH under-rating players I'm not sure. If the goalie you're talking about is Westerveld(however you spell his name), he went because of differences with GH the details of which I'm not sure of yet. Litmanen left because he wanted to as he wasn't getting many games. I also know that Anelka can be a right handful(e.g. Arsenal)or maybe Houllier was getting Anelka back on behalf of his compatriot Wenger!

Also, I think Joe Cole should stay with West Ham to try and get them back up.

Dreamer7

Beckham is staying, others are bitter that he is not moving after all BUT still anything can happen.

Ruud won't be leaving, if he wants CL how is he going to get it at Barcelona, they aren't even qualified for it next season. Somehow I have this feeling he won't stay at ManUtd for long, maybe after Fergie goes he will go too.

SmellTheCat
Jun 1st, 2003, 03:25 AM

About Becks I've got a strong feeling that he doesn't want to leave but Fergie wants him out!

There's talk on the back of my local paper that European clubs like Celta Vigo(sp?) are interested in Robert Earnshaw(Cardiff City). Oh and Steve Finnan is going from Fulham to Liverpool for about 3.5/4.5 million pounds. My dad tells me he's a good player; I don't know because I haven't seen Fulham play that much.

Newcastle United are on the verge of hijacking Ronaldinho's move to Manchester United.

Sky Sports News understands that Sir Bobby Robson has offered Paris St Germain cash - believed to be £5million - plus former winger Laurent Robert.

Real Madrid are also said to be monitoring the Brazil World Cup winner's situation, although newspaper reports and Ronaldinho himself had suggested that his £9million move to Old Trafford was already done.

The St James' Park club have already brought in Lee Bowyer this summer as they prepare to overhaul United and Arsenal in the Premiership.

Ronaldinho has said he wants Champions League football next season and Robson is ready to allow PSG to appease their fans by offering former favourite Robert a return to the Parc des Princes.

"It's quite true that Newcastle are quite keen on signing Ronaldinho," Alan Oliver of the Newcastle Evening Chronicle told Sky Sports News. "They have put together a package where they would let PSG have Laurent Robert back and pay four or five million.

"What they are saying, is that Manchester United have not got the deal tied up. I think his wages are £19,000 a week and they'd have no trouble doubling that - and of course, they can offer him what he wants, which is Champions League football."

The last time Newcastle and United went head-to-head for a player was back in 1996 when current skipper Alan Shearer snubbed Old Trafford for a return to his Tyneside roots.

I've never seen much of Veron other than when he played against Wales in a friendly at the beginning of last year(which was a draw by the way. I thought we'd get thumped because Argentina were one of the favourites to win the World Cup!). Is he any good?

Seriously I don't know how good he really is. If I just based on how he plays for Man Utd, then I must say he does not impress me very much. When he came here, last season, I disliked him because he was horrible and very inconsistent. He has been better this season especially in the CL, however he seems to have disappear for way too long a time after that one injury.

He was pretty good against Wales I think. But not as good as our Craig Bellamy that night. Anyway, Newcastle have now rejected claims that they made a move for Carr. UNITED GET £3MILLION DJEMBA

Manchester United have confirmed the £3million signing of Eric Djemba Djemba from Nantes.

Djemba Djemba passed a medical at Old Trafford this morning and signed a five-year contract this afternoon.

The deal is worth up to £3.5million, with an additional £700,000 to be paid depending upon appearances.

The 23-year-old will not be formally unveiled as he is due to return home to attend the funeral of international team-mate Marc-Vivien Foe.

Djemba Djemba is Sir Alex Ferguson's second signing of the week, following the capture from Sunderland of young winger David Bellion.
Djemba-Djemba said: "This is a very proud moment for me. Ever since I was a teenager it has been my dream to play for Manchester United.

"If the club is signing me it is because they really believe in me. I am here to learn and to work hard, and I cannot wait for the new season to start.”

Ferguson said: "Eric is a young player we’ve watched throughout the season, and he’s impressed us each time with his understanding of the game.

"He’s quick, aggressive and a good passer of the ball, and is the kind of athletic footballer we are looking for. In the last few months he has shown his development playing in a very good Cameroon team, and he looks like a Manchester United player in every sense.“
The Cameroon international, known for his love of Old Trafford hero Eric Cantona, is a holding midfielder in the mould of all-action skipper Roy Keane.

He could also be the man who inherits David Beckham's number seven shirt.

Djemba Djemba was a close friend of Foe in the Cameroon set-up and partnered him in midfield in the tragic Confederations Cup victory over Columbia last week after which Foe lost his life.

Bur United's hopes of securing a deal for Brazilian Ronaldinho remian in the balance after Paris St Germain turned down United's initial bid, believed to be in the region of £11m.

United chief executive Peter Kenyon met his PSG counterpart Francis Graille on Wednesday but has now returned to Manchester to consider his next move as efforts to land the 23-year-old World Cup winner continue to frustrate.

Old Trafford officials are annoyed with PSG for attempting to conduct business in the public arena but with Graille claiming Real Madrid are willing to pay £25m for their star man, with an £8m downpayment promised immediately, Kenyon has seen the price pushed increasingly skywards.

It appears Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has wasted little time in trying to lavish his money on Chelsea.

European champions AC Milan claim they have turned down a £34.5million offer from an unnamed English club for Italian centre-back Alessandro Nesta.

Champions Manchester United have the clout to make an offer of that magnitude, but Sir Alex Ferguson is not strengthening in central defence this summer.

Abramovich, however, has pledged £200million to Chelsea's cuase after buying them yesterday and could easily finance a world-record deal for a defender.

But AC Milan aren't playing ball: they won't reveal the bidder and won't allow the Italian to leave.

Club vice-president Adriano Galliani said: "Just yesterday I refused an offer of £50million euros (£34.5million) for Alessandro Nesta. The offer came from an English club."

Nesta, who joined Milan from Lazio before the start of last season for £22million, would be the perfect replacement for the ageing Marcel Desailly.

Galliani said that Milan's attempts to buy former United defender, Dutch international Jaap Stam, from Lazio had been rejected by the Rome club.

KLUIVERT IN TALKS WITH NEWCASTLE

Sky Sports News understands that Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert is currently in talks with Newcastle over a possible summer move to St James' Park.

The Dutch striker has become disillusioned at the Nou Camp after the new regime at Barca threatened to slash his salary. The club has subsequently given him until July 17 to sign a new contract or leave.

"If Barca amend my contract and reduce my salary, it would be normal to leave. When something is signed you have to fulfill it," Kluivert said.

In response, Barcelona Director of Sport Txiki Begiristain said Kluivert's agent, Sigi Lens, had been unable to contact him at his holiday hideaway.

Barcelona have told Kluivert they plan to cut his wages and the player is now free to activate a clause which would let him leave for a cut-price £1.2 million.

"We can wait until 17th July. If it gets really tight, we'll start to look at other options, but I'm still optimistic," Begiristain told the club's website.

"Our position is crystal clear: either he accepts our conditions or he can exercise the buy-out clause."

The swoop from Newcastle reflects the ambitions of a club already boosted by the financial rewards that will be given to them by playing in the Champions League next season.

With Alan Shearer entering the summer of his career and Craig Bellamy plagued by discipline problems, Kluivert would be the perfect addition to the club's squad.

AGENT CLAIMS VIDUKA IS IN DEMAND

Mark Viduka's agent claims four of Europe's leading clubs have been linked with the player, even though Leeds insist they have received no official approach for his services.

Andrea D'Amico, maintains negotiations have taken place with Barcelona, while Roma, AC Milan and Bayern Munich are seemingly waiting in the wings.

But Leeds chairman John McKenzie has consistently stated this summer Viduka is the one player not for sale as the 27-year-old is the spearhead of manager Peter Reid's plans for next season.

"We are working very hard to find a good option for the player and at the right moment we can have a meeting with Leeds and we can go on or not with the deal," said D'Amico.

"For sure Mark is one of the best scorers in the world. He has a lot of experience, so Barcelona and some top Italian clubs are interested.

"Roma are interested in Mark because (coach Fabio) Capello likes him very much and we have talked with AC Milan.

"They wanted to sign a contract (with Viduka) two years ago. They have a lot of money and maybe they need a striker like Mark.

"We are also in contact with Bayern Munich and I think that if they cannot sign Roy Makaay we can have an option for Mark."

Should Patrick Kluivert leave the Nou Camp, with the Holland international reportedly in talks with Newcastle, then Viduka could become a firm target for Barca.

Until then, even as D'Amico states, Viduka is happy at Leeds, adding: "Mark is feeling very good and he has spent a very good time in Leeds and his mind is, at the moment, in Leeds.

"I think it is normal that a top professional player can consider some development in their career.

"At the moment he is a player of Leeds but in the future no-one can say what will happen. I think in 10 days we can have some option."

Meanwhile McKenzie will have to wait until next week to discover the fate of striker Harry Kewell.

Negotiations between McKenzie and Kewell's agent Bernie Mandic are expected to take place before manager Peter Reid's squad return for pre-season training on Wednesday.

The player looks certain to leave the Elland Road club, but so far Arsenal are the only club to make enquiries about the Australia international.

However, the Gunners are thought to be balking at Kewell's excessive wage demands, rumoured to be in the region of £70,000 per-week. Liverpool, are thought to be interested in the player as well.

Ronaldinho for Real in 2004?
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=271050&cc=4716

I was wondering why this guy suddenly became so popular or so highly wanted? Has he even proved to be that great among the Real/Man Utd stars? I don't think Real really want him and would pay such a huge amount. Like I said, this could be some ploy to stop Man Utd from getting him.

More news on Ronaldinho

http://msn.skysports.com/skysports/article/0,,1860-1096299,00.html

French newspaper L'Equipe claims Manchester United have raised their offer for Ronaldinho to nearly £18million.

The report also claims his club Paris St Germain are waiting to see the new bid in writing before deciding whether to accept the offer.

Ronaldinho's agent Roberto Assis confirmed the Brazilian's future should be sorted out by Thursday.

But one club who have been bumped out of the running are Chelsea, who, according to Paris St Germain president Francis Graille, do not interest the Brazilian star.

The London club, armed with Roman Abramovich's millions, have been in contact with PSG regarding the 23-year-old, but Graille believes it is a straight fight between United and Real.

He said: "Chelsea have plenty of money, but I don't see the sporting interest in Ronaldinho going to them.

"I've been in contact with several clubs every day. Officials from Manchester United came over yesterday. Perhaps I will talk to them today. I will speak to (Madrid president) Florentino Perez this morning. Manchester United will have to put a substantial offer in for us to let Ronaldinho go."

It has become clear that both PSG and Ronaldinho would prefer an agreement with Real as it would wipe out the French club's £8million debt to Real from the Niclas Anelka deal three years ago and would allow the Brazilian to link up with friends Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos at the Bernabeu.

United, however, could eventually win his signature, but they will probably have to stump up £18million in transfer fees and agree a package that puts Ronaldinho on a par with Roy Keane's £100,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford. United certainly have the money, but they will not want to lavish every penny from the £25million sale of David Beckham in one move.

"Manchester United and Real Madrid are continuing negotiations with PSG," Assis explained, but United have already had an offer for the player rejected by PSG, and they will not want another rejected, as that could see them come under pressure from their own fans, who have seen the exit door at Old Trafford used more frequently than the welcoming mat.

David Dunn joins Brum

David Dunn has described his new club Birmingham as "no second choice" after completing his move from Blackburn.

The England midfielder left his hometown club in a £5.5 million deal and then declared himself ready to focus on his new team rather than dwell on what happened at Ewood Park.

"I just want to focus on Birmingham City now and do my best for them," he told Sky Sports News, adding that new boss Steve Bruce played a pivotal role in his switch to St Andrews.

"As soon as I met Steve, I came down here and I realised what a big club this is and what we could go on to do," added Dunn. "They are no second choice."

"There were a few other clubs at the end who were interested but as soon as I met a manager of Steve's quality there was no other decision."

Dunn admitted the breakdown of his relationship with Blackburn manager Graeme Souness had contributed to his decision to move.

He said: "I was disappointed at what happened. I've got to say a big thanks for the fans there and the support they have shown me over seven to eight years, but I have to look to the future now."

Bruce admitted he was surprised the St Andrews club had made such strides in the last two years to be able to deal in players of Dunn's stature.

"I didn't think it would be possible that we would be signing somebody of this fellow's quality," he said .
"He's got a big future and I'm sure he's going to have a bright future for us."

Bruce also found time to praise club owner David Sullivan for his role in the signing, claiming: "David deserves a big pat on the back, he's negotiated it for maybe six weeks.

"It's been a long, drawn-out time. He (Dunn) was the number one target, he was the one I wanted above anybody else and I think it shows the ambition.

"We were the big spenders in the winter time and again we've shown our intent to maintain our Premiership status."

Ronaldinho wants to join Manchester United.

The Brazilian has turned down Barcelona and said he sees his future at Old Trafford.

He is now waiting for Paris St Germain and United to finalise the details of the transfer so he can move to Manchester.

The World Cup winner, who has also attracted interest from Real Madrid, Chelsea and Newcastle, has told his brother and agent, Roberto Assis, that he wants to play for Sir Alex Ferguson.

Assis said: "Ronaldinho wants to go to Manchester United, so at the moment it's just a question of waiting for the deal to be completed."

The 23-year-old, who PSG wanted to keep, was Sir Alex Ferguson's major summer transfer target and is expected to cost in the region of £18 million.

Like Ferguson and United chief executive Peter Kenyon, the playmaker, whose free-kick memorably eliminated England from last summer's World Cup, has become increasingly frustrated at PSG's failure to conclude a transfer with the Old Trafford outfit.

Although Ronaldinho has expressed a preference for a move to Spain, only Real Madrid fit the bill and while the deal offered by the nine-times European Cup winners which would have seen the player remain with PSG for another season might have been appealing to the club, the prospect of missing out on another season of Champions League football is unpalatable to the player.

"I have to talk with the PSG president Francis Graille because Ronaldinho wants the situation concluded," added Assis.

"We are working towards that and now it is just a question of timing."

Ronaldinho will join fellow new signings David Bellion and Eric Djemba-Djemba at Old Trafford.

Leeds midfielder Olivier Dacourt has completed his move to Roma, for a fee of £3.5million.

Dacourt's move will be welcomed by Leeds, who had feared the deal was about to fall through due to the long time it has taken Roma to finalise the transfer.

It provides much-needed income for the Elland Road club, who also completed the controverial sale of the midfielder Harry Kewell to Liverpool this week for £5m.

Roma will pay the fee in four instalments, with the first payment due to be made in 10 days' time.

Dacourt - who was on loan at the Stadio Olimpico last season - has agreed a three-year contract, having impressed during his 18 appearances.

A France international with nine caps to his name, he leaves Elland Road after three years.

He joined Leeds for £7.2m from Lens in May 2000 and has also previously played for their Premiership rivals Everton and Strasbourg.

The threat of a FIFA transfer embargo did not prevent the Serie A side from completing the deal - their second of the week following the arrival of Romanian Cristian Chivu from Ajax.

Roma were warned by world football's governing body to not sign players until they have paid an overdue debt to Peruvian club Sporting Cristal.

But Roma insist that they are doing all in their power to resolve that dispute, and the announcement of Dacourt's permanent signing indicates it is business as usual.

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has hit back at Leeds in the row over Harry Kewell's acrimonious transfer, denying that the Reds ever offered £7million for the Australian.

Kewell's 5m move to Anfield has been shrouded in controversy, with Leeds chairman Professor John McKenzie claiming Liverpool initially submitted a £7m bid last Friday only for Kewell and his agent Bernie Mandic vetoed the deal.

McKenzie has raised questions over what happened to the £2m but Parry insisted, as Kewell was unveiled as a Liverpool player at Anfield, that it was never on offer.

Parry said: "I'm not sure I want to get drawn into a slanging match with Professor McKenzie, the discussions have been cordial and long may they stay that way.

"But no, we didn't make an offer of £7m on July 4. I don't know what Prof McKenzie means, I just know the realities of the case. I'm just telling you the realities of the situation.

"Harry here has turned his back on some huge offers over the last few days, make no mistake, he has not come here purely for money.

"He's well rewarded and rightly so, but he's come for football reasons because there has been enormous interest and temptation.

"But once he had made up his mind to come to Liverpool he has stuck with that right down the line, there has never been an attempt to change the terms and the deal."

Leeds accepted Liverpool's £5m offer fearing that they could lose the player on a free transfer when his contract expired next summer, but a further £2m went to the company which looks after Kewell's interests - leaving the Yorkshire club with a net return of just £3m. Parry added that this was merely the reality of football.

He said: "Our dialogue with Leeds has been as straightforward as transfer deals are, quite why it has become all blown up is a bit of a mystery.

"What needs to be examined? Just look at our experience with Steve McManaman, we lost a lot but that's the reality of the Bosman situation, it is law. That's what players are allowed to do."

Liverpool insist that the only money they have paid to Kewell has been through his new five-year contract, and are aware that Leeds had several bigger offers in the final two days of negotiations but that Kewell wasn't interested.

Parry said: "That is the reality of life. You can't do deals in isolation, it's not about clubs horse trading players as commodities, it's about players wanting to go.

"Leeds have had it with Paul Robinson. They agreed a deal with Aston Villa and the player didn't want to go, he's still there.

"That's the reality of how life works. Where is the problem? It's a judgement for Leeds, they either take what we offered and they did, or they decide to keep Harry for 12 months and lose him."

And Kewell backed up Mandic's claims that he was never made a concrete offer to stay at Leeds.

He said: "I'm sorry to say that Leeds never offered me a new contract and never put actually figures and numbers in front of me for me to sit down and discuss.

"It's disappointing. I was there nine years and you expect a friendship with the club, but there was no friendship there. They didn't want to offer me a contract."

West Ham are set to be the first beneficiaries of Roman Abramovich's riches after accepting an undisclosed bid from Chelsea for young right-back Glen Johnson.

The Blues have been linked with a whole host of top names since the Russian billionaire's arrival at Stamford Bridge, though suggestions of a 50million swoop for Arsenal's Thierry Henry have so far proved unrealistic.

But with the relegated Hammers desperate to make cutbacks, Johnson has proved an easier target, and the 18-year-old will now talk personal terms with the west Londoners.

A West Ham statement confirmed: "West Ham United can confirm that following discussions with Glen Johnson and his advisors, we have accepted an offer for an undisclosed transfer fee from Chelsea. Glen has been given permission to discuss personal terms with Chelsea."

Johnson only made his Premiership debut in January this year, but put in a string of impressive performances towards the end of the Hammers' doomed fight for survival.

Relegation to Division One sparked fears of a mass exodus from Upton Park, but despite an immediate request for a transfer from Jermain Defoe, there have been few bids for the club's collection of talented youngsters.

Should Johnson become the first to leave, his arrival at Chelsea will put pressure on current first-choice right-back Mario Melchiot.

Real Madrid have agreed to sell Cameroon midfielder Geremi to Chelsea for £6.9m.

Geremi, who spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, looks set to become the first player to sign for the west London club under the ownership of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.

Madrid are willing to sell Geremi as they have a plethora of midfielders following the arrival of England captain David Beckham at the Bernabeu.

Geremi was arguably Boro's best player last season, chipping in with a number of important goals during an impressive loan spell on Teesside.

Barry Silkman, Geremi's English representative, is hopeful the deal will be completed over the weekend.

He said: "A fee of 10 million euros has been agreed and terms will be finalised sooner or later - hopefully in the next 24 to 48 hours.

"For him it's a great opportunity. At Real, maybe, he wouldn't be a regular. He enjoyed his time at Middlesbrough but Chelsea are the most up-and-coming club at the moment and that's the one he's chosen to go to.

"He's 24 and has probably got the best seven or eight years in front of him.

"He was outstanding at Middlesbrough for most of the season and is a proven Premiership player. I believe Chelsea have got a terrific deal.

"It looks like Chelsea are going to buy some quality players."

Chelsea have been linked with several top stars since the arrival of Abramovich at Stamford Bridge.

Juventus claimed to have turned down an approach for Edgar Davids on Thursday while Inter Milan stressed that they had rejected a bid for Christian Vieri.

However, Silkman does not believe the arrival of the Russian and his millions will mean Chelsea will pay over the odds for players in the future.

He added: "Chelsea won't spend more than they believe a player is worth.

"Because clubs believe Roman Abramovich is ready to splash out a few quid, clubs are asking extortionate money for players - but he won't pay it."

Blackburn have confirmed that they have rejected two 'serious' bids from Chelsea for Damien Duff.

Ewood Park chief executive John Williams refused to disclose the size of the offers, but said they failed to match the figure which would activate a release clause in the Irish winger's contract.

Rovers are keen to keep Duff, but Williams admitted that an improved bid from billionaire Blues owner Roman Abramovich could leave the decision in the player's hands.

"We've received two bids from Chelsea and we've rejected them," Williams told Sky Sports News. "We don't want to lose Damien. We hope he stays.

"It depends how serious Chelsea are about wanting to sign him. There is a release clause in the contract he negotiated last year.

"If conditions are met with the bid naturally we would be obliged to let Damien talk to Chelsea - or any other club who met them and the decision would rest with the player.

"There has been intense press speculation and I don't think it's fair to talk about the amounts. But a very serious bid has been made and rejected - and we want the player to stay."

Duff has long been linked with a move to Manchester United, but the Premiership champions have focussed their attention on chasing Brazil star Ronaldinho this summer, and the willingness of new-look Chelsea to act swiftly is further proof that Abramovich is prepared to back up his £140million investment by funding a spectacular transfer spree.

Rumours of a world-record bid for Thierry Henry have been scotched by Arsenal, but Juventus have confirmed the west Londoners' interest in Edgar Davids, while Inter claim to have turned down an offer for striker Christian Vieri.

The Blues have also attempted to muscle in on the hunt for Ronaldinho, and failed with a late bid to take Liverpool new-boy Harry Kewell to Stamford Bridge.

So far, Abramovich's only success has been to persuade West Ham to accept £6million for novice defender Glen Johnson, though fellow full-back Wayne Bridge could join the Chelsea revolution if Southampton are tempted by a £7million offer, while a deal for Cameroon midfielder Geremi is thought to be close.

Les Ferdinand has agreed a one-year deal with newly-promoted Leicester.

The veteran striker has been mulling over offers since his short-term contract with relegated West Ham expired at the end of last season.

And he has opted to become Micky Adams' third signing in three days following the arrivals of Keith Gillespie and French midfielder Lilian Nalis at the Walker's Stadium.

"I am delighted that Les has agreed to join us and that I have been able to bring in someone of his Premiership quality and experience," said City boss Adams.

"He showed last season when he went to West Ham on loan that there is still plenty of life left in him, and I am certain he will be a great acquisition to us.

"Another big plus is that he will be a good role model to our other strikers and particularly our young players.

Ronaldinho, after a summer of painful prevarication, has finally signed a five-year contract to join Barcelona from Paris St Germain.

The Brazilian, who will cost the Spaniards £21million, will undergo a medical tomorrow (Sunday) before being formally presented as a Barcelona player on Monday.

His transfer represents a coup for president Joan Laporta, but leaves Manchester United, whose overtures were rejected by the 23-year-old midfielder, with a massive problem.

United even reportedly offered goalkeeper Fabien Barthez as a makeweight in the deal before finally admitting defeat in the race to sign the World Cup winner.

Barcelona vice-president Sandro Rosell said: "He's one of the stars of the new Barcelona. He is impressed by the crowds who've come out to see him."

Rosell also promised it would not be the last of the spending, adding: "We are going to sign two or three more players."

Ronaldinho did not speak, but Roberto Assis, his brother and agent, expressed the pair's relief at the deal being done.

"Barca worked very hard with PSG and now we've reached agreement and we're very happy to be here," said Assis.

The Premiership champions end their four-game pre-season tour of the U.S. on August 3 with a friendly against Barca in Philadelphia.

And there is now a strong chance they will be lining up AGAINST the man Sir Alex Ferguson earmarked as the perfect replacement for David Beckham.

Ferguson is now expected to switch his attentions to Damien Duff, although Pat Devlin, Duff's agent, has confirmed that they have not made contact with him so far.

Looks like Utd are not after Duff

http://msn.skysports.com/skysports/article/0,,1-1097558,00.html

Damien Duff's proposed transfer to Chelsea has moved a step closer after Manchester United Peter Kenyon ruled out a bid for the Republic of Ireland winger.

The Blackburn star is mulling over a £17million switch to Stamford Bridge after travelling to London for talks with Blues boss Claudio Ranieri.

United were widely expected to launch their own offer for the Republic of Ireland winger after losing out to Barcelona in the race for Brazilian Ronaldinho.

But Kenyon, who is fuming at the behaviour of Ronaldinho's previous club Paris St Germain, says the Premiership champions will not be pursuing Duff as an alternative.

"Let's kill the Damien Duff story straightaway," said Kenyon. "We are not in for him. There has been no approach to the club and no approach to the player and there won't be. He is due to sign for Chelsea."

Ronaldinho's decision to opt for the Nou Camp - despite Barca's absence from next season's Champions League - makes him the second player this summer after Harry Kewell to turn down a move to Old Trafford.

"You have got to be a special player to play for Manchester United," said Kenyon. "We offer a major stage, Champions League opportunities, a huge success factor in terms of picking up medals and financial guarantees.

"The regime is strict but it produces what most players want - a winning formula. Mentally you have to be tough enough to stand it.

"Players have to balance that against what is on offer at other places. You have to ask the question why they want to go somewhere else and you can take that how you want."

Kenyon also denied claims from PSG that United had attempted to offload goalkeeper Fabien Barthez as part of the Ronaldinho deal.

"If we want to buy a player we go for it and if we want to sell them we do that but you can't confuse the two. Fabien is a Manchester United player and will remain so.

"I completely refute the suggestion we made one offer verbally and went back with a much lower offer in writing. We have an absolute paper trail. We don't conduct our business like that and we have enough standing with major European clubs for other people to recognise that.

"Where we finished up was not a derisory offer and could not be construed as insulting. If the player had wanted to come to Manchester United he would have done so."

Alex Ferguson, meanwhile, made it plain that the club's abortive bid for the Brazilian would not do any serious damage to his plans for the new season.

"I am disappointed but not overly so," he said. "I didn't know what the boy was thinking because we only had one discussion and he doesn't speak very good English.

"We got to the point where we wondered if he wanted to play for us or not and we have proved when we missed players in the past that it never stops us."

Damien Duff has completed his £17million move from Blackburn to Chelsea.

The Republic of Ireland winger had been mulling over the move south since meeting Blues boss Claudio Ranieri and undergoing a medical at the weekend.

The 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract and will join up with his new team-mates for the Premier League Asia Cup in Malaysia.

"This was probably the biggest decision of my life and I didn't want to rush it," he said.

"It was just a matter of thinking everything through. I had seven great years at Blackburn and there was no big reason to move but in the end I decided a big new challenge was necessary.

"I'm really looking forward to meeting them all and playing for my new club. It looks as though great things are going to happen at Chelsea."

The Londoners were the only team prepared to pay the amount needed to trigger a release clause in the Rovers contract Duff signed last year, with Manchester United deciding not to bid despite missing out on Brazilian target Ronaldinho.

The deal makes Duff the fourth player to join Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich's Stamford Bridge revolution.

Wayne Bridge earlier sealed his £7million transfer from Southampton to join fellow full-back Glen Johnson and Cameroon star Geremi in west London.

http://msn.skysports.com/skysports/article/0,,1860-1097591,00.html

England defender Wayne Bridge has completed his £7m move from Southampton to Chelsea, with Graeme Le Saux moving in the opposite direction as part of the deal.

The left-back passed a medical at Stamford Bridge on Monday morning, before becoming Chelsea's third signing since Roman Abramovich bought the club earlier this month, joining Glen Johnson and Geremi in west London.

Bridge said "This is a big step up for me, with the players Chelsea are looking to buy to build a great squad. They've got a good squad at the moment, so hopefully I can add to that. I've come here to win medals."

Southampton have filled the void left by Bridge's departure by taking Graeme Le Saux from Chelsea on a two-year contract.

"Following our statement of Friday we can confirm that Wayne Bridge has today signed a contract with Chelsea Football Club," said Saints chairman Rupert Lowe.

"Graeme Le Saux has at the same time signed a two-year contract with our club and will be travelling to Sweden to join the squad later this week.

"We are understandably sad to lose the services of Wayne Bridge but he made it abundantly clear that he saw joining Chelsea as a career progression despite having three years remaining on his contract with Southampton.

"We continue to subscribe to the view that sporting success is achieved by people who want to play together, share a common goal and are committed to the club and their team-mates.

"Graeme Le Saux will bring great ability and experience to our squad and we all look forward to working with him to take the club forward."

Trevor Sinclair has joined Manchester City.

The England midfielder joins Kevin Keegan's side on a four-year contract after City agreed a £2.5million fee with First Division West Ham.

Sinclair agreed to the move last week and the club announced this afternoon that all formalities had been completed and the 30-year-old has officially become a City player.

"It gives us another couple of strings to our bow," said Keegan. "He can play left or right, at wing-back and up front. I am delighted if we can tidy up the deal."

Sinclair, Manchester born and bred, will travel with City on their pre-season tour of Denmark.

Manchester United said they won't panic buy now that they've missed out on Ronaldinho. There were talks that they wanted Keiron Dyer from Newcastle United but Bobby Robson has denied this. I hope Bobby's telling the truth. I know Manchester United won't do abismally next season but if they want to retain their title and do well in the Champion's League they'll need someone to replace Beckham because of the amount of balls he put into van Nistelrooy and all his hard work in midfield. I know they got Kleberson(am I right?)but I think they need one more.

Well, the thing is, if West Ham want to go back up they can't sell their best players. Di Canio said he would take a pay-cut to stay there but I've heard that the chairmen don't like him because he speaks his mind. They must hang on to Defoe or they might struggle to go back up.

In defence of Arsenal some of the red cards in past seasons have not been deserved but the two so far this season have been deserved. Perhaps they used to be picked on because if there was any incident where an Arsenal player seemed to commit a foul and it wasn't detected by the officials then it would definitely be flagged up by the FA. Now, this never happens to Manchester United. However, the last two red cards Arsenal have had have been deserved.

Peter Reid staying at Leeds for now. I don't think you can blame him. The problem lies with the players, they just seem completely off, the woes of last season was brought forward to this season apparently. To think just few seasons ago they were in the CL.

I know. They have some good players: Robinson and Alan Smith and some more I'm sure but I can't think of them. It's not Peter Reid's fault. Not even Terry Venables did much good!

Barthez linked with Marseille return

I think if Man Utd don't use Barthez he might just leave, even though he seems not to mind that much. Well he is still being paid for not playing! I prefer Barthez over Howard. ;)

I must admit, I did like Barthez, I'm kind of missing him LOL. I have nothing againt Tim Howard but he hasn't been in the Premiership long and that's not long enough to prove himself, in my opinion.

I forgot to mention, Wales goalkeeper Paul Jones will be looking for a new club when the transfer window open in January because Gordon Strachan has told him that he can leave if he wants to and that he's not Southampton's number. This is a shame because although he wasn't getting regular club action, Southampton are a Premiership club and I don't know where he'll go now. Also, in the Telgraph Fantasy Football thing, Jones is the keeper with the most amount of points this season so far.

Chelsea are said to want Wayne Rooney but Everton have said they won't be selling him or something along those lines.

I don't think Rooney himself will be going, he will definitely get more chance at Everton anyways.

I'd rather him stay at Everton, they seem to be handling him well and I like it when a good player stays with the club he started with.

Guess what I read in my papers? Chelsea wants to get Beckham next season if he failed to do well at Real Madrid, they are offering £33m! LOL!

LOL! I hadn't heard that one. Chelsea just want to buy everyone LOL! Owen hasn't signed a new contract yet, Steven Gerrard is urging him to do it. Well, the way Liverpool are playing right now he may want to make a swift exit! LOL, OK, I'm kidding!

Lol. I thought Gerrard was thinking of leaving too if Liverpool ain't doing well. Maybe the one who is suppose to leave is the manager.

I actually like Houllier. We won't win the league under him but we won't win the league this season so I think we should give him to the end of the season.

Alpay has left Aston Villa and Morris has taken leave for a few days from Leeds.

Houllier must consider himself lucky, he must have good connections with the directors.

So after the win today will it help any?

I dunno, maybe or maybe not. It is reported in a few newspapers today that Micahel Owen is preparing to leave Anfiled for Inter Milan possibly and Liverpool will get one of their strikers apparently. Owen still hasn't signed an extension to his contract. I really don't want him to leave. I'd cry LOL.

I doubt he would want to go Inter Milan. Maybe AC Milan & Juventus would be better. Then again I can't see him leaving. He is like Ryan Giggs is to Man Utd.

Well, I'd hate to see him leave and it'd be hard to imagine it but Liverpool, I'm afraid to say, don't look like title contenders and he wants to win the league.

Villa's O'Leary interested in Birmingham City's Forssell. I hope O'Leary doesn't go around spending and making the club lose money.
