qianling - I like your screen name! :)
It reminds me of much on-line reading I've done concerning all the ancient archaeological discoveries made so far at Qianling, near Xian - very interesting as well as mind stimulating! (though in the west, most people have never even heard of Qianling and few even know where Xian is located, or even realise there are such huge and ancient structures (http://www.100megsfree4.com/farshores/chipyr_2a.jpg) in the areas nearby)
I guess you can tell I love reading up on archaeology. :)

"the five people you meet in heaven" is soooo good. I loved it. Have you read "the lovely bones" by alice sebold? "five people" reminds me of that b/c they both have to deal w/ alternative views of heaven...
No spoilers, promise :)
Its about a man, Eddie, who dies trying to save a child. He goes to heaven and has the same view of heaven as everyone else, ya know, pealry white gates and all that jazz...well he learns more about his life than he can ever imagine by 5 people that intersected his life in some way.
i recommend "the five people you meet in heaven" to everyone!!

I'm only about a quarter of the way into it, but so far it's been informative and hilarious in a sick way.. The "7 questions for George W. Bush" chapter of the book is downright scandalous. The scary thing is that Bush will never have to answer any of these questions.
1. Is it true that the Bin Ladens have had business relations with you and your family off and on for the last 25 years?
2. What is the "special relationship" between the Bushes and the Saudi royal family?
3. Who attacked the United States on September 11th -- a guy on dialysis from a cave in Afghanistan, or your friends, Saudi Arabia?
4. Why did you allow a private Saudi jet to fly around the U.S. in the days after September 11 and pick up members of the Bin Laden family and then fly them out of the country without a proper investigation by the FBI?
5. Why are you protecting the "Second Amendment rights" of potential terrorists?
6. Were you aware that while you were governor of Texas, the Taliban traveled to Texas to meet with your oil and gas company friends?
7. What exactly was that look on your face in the Florida classroom on the morning of September 11 when your chief of staff told you, "America is under attack"?

 Those are pretty intense...the great thing about Michael Moore is that he usually has some thing or someone to back up his statements. Unless they are based on opinion. I thought we were on good terms w/ the Saudis? Maybe not...Oh what the hell do I know... lol

A rock star tries to flee the marketing machine that he has become a part of. It's very poetically written.

This is the first time I've tried reading two books at once. Although I have patience, I figured I would never have the attention span to read two different books at once. Its rather easy. "Soul Harvest" is a good continuation of the first three books in the Left Behind series and the stories in Sylvias book has always interested me since I was very young. I would enjoy talking with Sylvia. I just read a little bit of each, but I read more of "Soul Harvest" and I take my time with "Visits from the Afterlife".

Yeah, considering the period, the style is quite interesting, but I have so many exams lately I'm reading quite slowly, so I do not have an opinion on it yet... Give me a month or so and we'll discuss the book more deeply.

So far I am liking it. But I'm horrified at the same time with some of the behavior. The language was difficult at first but I got used to it the more I read. There are still some words I can't completely understand, but I pretty much know what they mean because of the context. Now that school is out I hope I can finish it this week.

I respect Ulysses stylistic breakthrough. However, I find it to be rather self-indulgent.
hmmm, i guess TIME was wrong for picking it as the greatest book ever written, thanks for clarifying....

I read Muriel Sparks' "The Finishing School" yesterday, and now I want to read "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie".
Today I started "The Flaw", by Antonis Samarakis.

Today I bought Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The movie is coming soon and I figured I needed something to read on the airplane. So I'll read that on June 3rd. No time to read anything that's not school related before that.

The Maker's Diet by Jordan S. Rubin.
I saw him interviewed on the news and found him to be inspriational and so engrossed in helping others with his diet based on the Bible. Yes, it is professed a good one for one's just wanting to lose weight. But the main point he is making is the health issue with out diets. This story of his personal struggle with illness hitting him out of the blue, and almost taking his life over a two year period is incredible! However he had enough faith to keep going is beyond my comprehension. But faith he DID have and God brought him through because of that faith and his purpose in life, I believe, to help others with bad health and in need of a way out of pain and illness. Check it out. It's truly amazing!!

And the faith to lie about being a doctor, apparently. :o

Meaning what? That he doesn't have his PHD?? Not that I know him or anything near to that, but why does deep faith in God and His powers scare you so bad Dave? Anyone that Charles Stanley endorses has to be above board. I'm taking for granted that he gave his permission to have his own personal foreward used in this book. Pastor Stanley is a messenger from God if ever I've heard one. His words make more sense than any pastor I've ever listened to.
But no matter anyway...........I'm not going to live by Jordan's word or such. It's just a book for goodness sakes.

It's just a book? Yeah. But when a writer writes a book and uses phony credentials to get the permission/advance to write it, and that person poses as a doctor, yes, I think there's an issue. We jail those who pose as doctors in this country, last I checked.
If that's the "believer's" view of Rubin and his book, then once again we have another bit of hypocracy. The mad rush to discredit Dan Brown, to say he is not worthy of writing, and to denounce The DiVinci Code? "It's just a book for goodness sakes." So is the Bible, just a book.
I guess it's okay to lie to the world about your credentials just to sell your book... Especially when you attach a religious slant to it all.
As for Stanley... Hmmm. Pro-war by the word of the government, (nevermind the lack of justification). Remained a pastor despite Baptist rules of being such after divorce... I'm sorry, I'm supposed to respect a man who doesn't respect his own laws?
If it's just a book, who is it you you put so much faith in it in the first place? :o

Show me your proof.
The Bible is the greatest book of all times.......in fact, it's not just a book but life in itself. My total faith is in the Almighty God and Jesus Christ.......which you full well know from the F&R board.
I'm not in the habit of reading drudge on men of God. I do know what I hear Charles Stanley say in the sermons is right in line with the Bible I read and live by. I'm not here to defend him nor judge him or anyone. God will do that alone.
It seems nothing we say to each other anymore is constructive..........rather destructive. No matter what board I post on or where I go you tear my posts down with what you believe is superiority, but in reaality is rude and unmoderator like. Thank you Dave for showing what a man you can be. I find I have nothing else to say to you. :nc:

My pleasure.
I would like to know what's "unmoderator-like," if you would elaborate.
Fox has been catching up with the "doctor," and it seems he is not what he seems. I expect you'll be hearing more of this in the next few weeks.
