This book is GREAT! Read it in a day. It's got lots of suspense and if fairly easy to read but still intelligently written.

Author is Dan Brown.

I HIGHLY recommend this book!!

I agree--very interesting and well written. The author has a novel out in paperback which I think is about the Masons and their relationship to the vatican.

That book and it's preceder, Angels & Demons, are both really good. I read on the author's website that they are adopting the movie into a screenplay. Also, he is writing a third book featuring the character of Robert Langdon, so that should be a good read as well.

Ppl keep telling me about it so I think I'm gonna check it out!

I don't read as much as I should, but I couldn't put that book down! I look forward to more works by Dan Brown.

BTW, a movie is already in the works, at least regarding screenplay options and everything. Not hard to believe at all.

Angels & Demons is even better, imo. :music:

I hope they don't screw up the movies. :o

I absolutely loved both books, Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code. I think Dan Brown explores many interesting and almost profound things. His whole idea in Da vinci code is truely engrossing and remarkable. If they are making movies it more than likely won't be near as good as the books, that is what generally happens.

Correct. I already know that a film based on The Da Vinci Code will be a complete disappointment. There is no way a film can out-perform that book, it was amazing.

I'm reading it right now and it is good :) Also, people have told me that Angels&Demons is better but I don't know since I haven't read it. I think that the Da Vinci Code is getting too hyped up though, it is good and well written, but I think that *a lot* of the people who think this book is great like it because of the Holy Grail thing. Dan Brown did not come up with that Holy Grail concept by any stretch of the imagination and I think people are so into it because it opens up this interesting possibility of conspiracy.

Correct. Most of the appeal stems from the conspiracy theory, but it is one helluva conspiracy theory.

Rather than be confined to a 2.5 - 3 hour movie, they should make it into a TV Mini-Series so they can really focus on every detail of the book. Although they won't do that because it wouldn't make them as much money.

...but I think that *a lot* of the people who think this book is great like it because of the Holy Grail thing....but has anyone even considered the fact that the air which Jesus breathed during this time is still to this day floating around throughout our atmosphere? Who knows, you could be inhaling at this very moment at least one the very same molecules that Jesus inhaled and exhaled.

Food for thought. :)

I'm putting this in the F&R Forum too:

(Concord, New Hampshire-AP) -- The author of ``The Da Vinci Code'' -- which suggests that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married and had a child, but the church hushed it up -- says he left out the most controversial part.

Dan Brown told a New Hampshire writers group that when he wrote the best-selling novel, he considered including material alleging that Jesus Christ survived the crucifixion.

Brown said that theory is backed by a number of "very credible sources,'' but that he ultimately decided it was too flimsy.

Since the book was published last year, both liberal and conservative scholars have cited numerous errors and called its premise nonsense.

"The Da Vinci Code'' has sold seven and a-half million copies worldwide and is expected to be made into a movie.

The book sounds overrated to me. Not that I've had the chance to read it. But I think I'll pass. Usually when so many people call a book a masterpiece, especially such a recent work, I smell fishy stuff in the air...

^Neither book is a "masterpiece", Marv, but they're both incredibly interesting and fast reads. :)

I just finished the book--a wonderful read. I have read legends and theories about the possible "marriage/relationship" of Jesus with Mary Magdelene and a line of their descendants in Europe in multiple sources. This was by no means an original idea--nor was the idea of a "conspiracy" by the Catholic Church to cover it up. The tie into the "Grail" stories, Templars/Mason--all have been used before, none of that is original at all---but ultimately, the book is a murder mystery--just using the above as the backdrop for the book. I loved it..nimue

It's far from a masterpiece. It is a good read, but not the pure genious that people claim it is. Or maybe I just didn't like it as much as other people because I was familiar with the holy grail thing before I read the book, and found the book to be exagerated(I know I speilled that wrong, sorry) and false on certain things and the holy grail conspiracy just wasn't all that mind boggeling to me, since I had been researching it for quite a while before I read that book,

I just finished the book a few days ago and really enjoyed. I've heard somethings were exagerated but it was still a good read.

I read this book and felt ripped off. Many of the "facts" arent facts, but suppositions. I didnt like it and wouldnt recommend it to anyone. If you are curious, wait for the movie and let it unfold in 2.5 hours.
