muffins- my system is like this

If you pull out ot a tournament you lose points(loss of points depends on my mood)

Failure to obtain the same results from the year before results in a loss( i will subtract the points they got for the tournament from last year if they fail to do so)

Bad Interviews and attitude count(Henin with her hand at the French counts here) ( more bitchy = more points off)

When on TV, are they interesting to watch

all these factor in to the points

I used to love him. I loved his smile as well as the way he played. I watched him play Pete Sampras at the U.S. Open once and it was the first time I saw Pete lose! He seemed like a nice guy and I was gutted that he didn't win Wimbledon. I was so upset when he retired and I'll never see him play Andy. Sniff sniff.

2. Marat Safin
3. James Blake
4. Guillermo Coria

Andy is my only clear favorite, after him everyone else I like is basically around the same level, so the order is kinda random and a few other guys could make the list just as easy as those other four.. my womens list is more definite

Women
1. Serena Williams
2. Venus Williams
3. Jennifer Capriati
4. Lindsay Davenport
5. Monica Seles

I'm gonna do a most disliked list too just for fun ;) I'll combine men and women on this one

Disliked

2. Justine Henin-Hardenne
3. Ivan Ljubicic
4. Nicolas Lapentti
5. Greg Rusedski

It really would be. Surely, even Seles3 would enjoy that? I just hope that Safin does come back. Rafter and Andy would have been a good match too. A serve volleyer against a baseliner. I just can't express how much I like/liked Rafter.

I know. That's why I didn't want him to retire. I wanted to see him play some more and win Wimbledon. Guess it just wasn't to be.

Sep 15th, 2003, 12:01 AM
I miss Pat Rafter too.. I didn't get into tennis until 2001, so I didn't get to see him play all that long before he retired, but I had friends who liked him for a while so I knew a little about him, and he was such a nice guy, and I loved to watch him play.. too bad he retired so early.. Marat will be back though, he better hurry his butt up and get well lol

Now, as for why I don't like those players.. almost all of them come down to an incident with my favorite players lol, but it's more about how they handled the situations rather than the fact of who it happened against.. it just showed me their true colors

1. Lleyton Hewitt - from the first time I laid eyes on him I just had a bad feeling.. it just so happened to be when he was playing Andy at the 2001 French Open, which is the first time I ever laid eyes on Andy also, that's when it all began for me.. anyway, I didn't have any real reason to dislike him at that point except that he got to move on only cause Andy had to retire.. but over time I saw his bad attitude, his me-against-the-world mentality, how he thrives on negativity, stories of different incidents, the racial thing with James Blake at the 2001 US Open.. a lot of things, I just plain don't like him

2. Justine Henin-Hardenne - She pretty much disgusts me.. I never liked or disliked her in the beginning, she was just kinda there, but after what happened with Serena at the French Open this year, I lost all respect for her.. how she lied about the holding her hand up, how she had no sympathy for Serena at all with the crowd, how she'll do anything to win and not think twice.. don't like her

3. Ivan Ljubicic - 2003 US Open second round post-match press conference.. need I say more? He was just a bitter and sore loser, making absurd comments and accuasations.. he tried to repair a little of the damage later, but it was way too little too late with me, and even then he still made ignorant comments

4. Nicolas Lapentti - Similar situation to Ivan.. he lost to Andy at the 2002 Masters in Toronto, Andy was cramping toward the end of the match and had to get treatment, I guess Nicolas was surprised that Andy was still able to run pretty well for certain points and after the match accused him of faking the cramps, he said something to Andy about it right after the match when they met at net, and they got in each others faces basically, it looked like they might start throwing punches for a minute lol.. anyway, I guess he too was too much of a sore loser to realize that cramps aren't always constant and aren't always bad enough to stop you from being able to run.. I'm sure he realized this later when he himself cramped this year at the French Open in his loss to Albert Costa, and he too was able to continue running extremely well for points, I wonder if he accused himself of faking

5. Greg Rusedski - Arrogance, basically.. it's not a specific incident or anything that happened to make me not like him, it's just his basic attitude and arrogant/ignorant comments he makes, and usually ends up sticking his foot in his mouth about later.. he's definitely not as bad as the rest of my list, he's just annoying

So there ya go lol.. some others who deserve honorable mention as disliked: Marcelo Rios and Yevgeny Kafelnikov, although they've both toned it down these last few years

muffins
Sep 15th, 2003, 03:57 PM
I never used to like Hewitt either and I wouldn't say I like him but he doesn't annoy me like he used to. I used to dislike Rainer Schuettler after I heard him say something about Andy but then he was a good sportman when he helped Ferreira with his injury, he went up in my estimations. I just don't like Ivan Ljubicic. The funny thing is, he said all that about not liking Andy's antics on court and then he was asked about Ivanisevic and he had nothing but praise for him. Goran could get quite fiery or funny on court if I remember correctly.

Control
Sep 16th, 2003, 08:45 PM
Don't let Ljubicic's ignorant comments fool you. I'm sure there are definitely some players that don't care for Andy too much, but that can be said about a lot of players, and it could just be that their personalities clash or whatever, not because of anything bad. But it's definitely no where near the majority of players like Ljubicic made it sound. It's probably more like a select few.

This is from an article in the latest issue of Sports Illustrated written by Jon Wertheim, he's well respected and does the weekly Tennis Mailbag for SI.com, he knows his stuff:

"...Underneath the impishness and the crowd-pleasing histrionics is a deep reserve of maturity and polish. When Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic lost to Roddick in the second round and then made the shabby (and absurd) allegation that Roddick is universally disliked on tour, the American didn't fire back publicly but instead called Ljubicic in his hotel room so they could iron out their differences. (They did.)"

So if Jon Wertheim says it's an absurd statement, then I'm sure it is. Plus several different players came to Andy's defense the day after all that and defended him. So I'm not worried about it, as I know Andy's not.

It isn't , because of what Ljubicic said (He was just a sour grape). It's just the impression that I get from players interview. I might be wrong tho. I didn't mean it like they hate him, just that he ain't popular. Then, again tennis is a individual sport.

Justine of course gains major points to enlarge her stay at this week's #1 and Jelena Dokic, after being stuck at #10 with 712 points or less for 4 straight weeks, breaks into the countdown into the 6th spot. There are no major movement except Serena falls to #10 for lack of action.

Mardy and Juan Carlos works extra hard this week to defeat opponents. Fish defeated Robredo and Henman. Juan Carlos defeated Federer and won the Masters Series. Both continue to share the #1 spot for 5 weeks in a row. But if Ferrero can keep his world ranking then he may pull ahead of Fish at the year end LiZARD tournament. Twins, Mike and Bob Bryan continue to compete for the top spot, finishing this week at a distant #3. Sjeng Schalken played well is getting married. Extra points to him. Tim Henman did nothing exciting so he falls from 4 to 9. Andy Roddick gains points and Younes is stuck at #13 for the 6th weeks in a row. He does not have jelena's capabilities to break through furthur into the countdown.

Jelena continues to break through, when 2 weeks ago she was ranked 10th for 4 consecutive weeks, she is now at #3 on the list. Daniella is showing signs of life so she gains a few points. Maria Sharapova continues to shine so she gains points.

Male:

LW 1. TW 1. Mardy Fish 21616 points

Mardy gets lots of points for winning his first title in a suspenseful tiebreaker. Juan also obtains points for staying as the leader in both the ATP race and 52-week reflection point standings. David Nalbandian played well and he gains points for his consistency and hard work. Nicholas Lapenti debuts this week at #10. Younes still cannot break through.

LW 3 TW 3 Elena Dementieva 4132 points
LW -- TW 4 Justine Henin-Hardenne 3501 points
LW 5 TW 5 Paola Suarez 3478 points

Justine is in based on the fact that she is the only one capable of destroying Kim and her ugly tree trunk thighs. Dokic is out because of this. Paola Suarez holds steady after a decent QF appearence last week because she has officially failed to qualify for the year end champs and that is just too bad. Venus loses points due to withdrawing AGAIN.

MEN
LW 1 TW 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero 12203 points

LW 3 TW 3 David Nalbandian 4625 points
LW 4 TW 4 Mike Bryan 4001 points
LW 5 LW 5 Tommy Robredo 2878 points

Juan continues to gain points because he just continues to prove to me he is the best player out there right now, working magic on ALL 4 surfaces. Safin continues to lose points cause HE continues to lose matches. He has also withdrawn next week which annoys me so he loses 500 points. David got bonus points for defeating Andy Roddick, and for making the final. Tommy will continue losing points if he continues to lose in the first round of everything.

LW 4 TW 5 Justine Henin-Hardenne 3078 points

Venus is losing her hold on the #1 spot because she keeps pulling out of everything at the last minute. Paola has jumped to her highest ranking cause she stopped Kim in winning the doubles YE Championship. Well Done. Myskina showed me she can play well, i enjoyed her match play. Dementieva could have done a lot better, and she stopped Rubin from getting the semi's, she ruined the whole tournament allowing amelie to get to the final and make it a boring final. Justine did well in stealing the #1 ranking, but i am mad she lost to Amelie in the semis. If she beat Amelie, she would have possibly beat Kim. Ugh.

Paola Suarez improved and deserves credit and Chaunda Rubins, who has been overlooked many times, will finally get the credit she deserves by debuting anf finishing the year as #4 with over 12,000 points, the highest debut by anybody. Juan blew it big time. He failed to win a match at the masters, he failed to stop RODDICK from getting #1!!!!!!!!!!!! That cost his ass a lot of points. Safin takes over #1 because of this and in order to keep #1, he needs to start winning in 2004. David was great at the masters, and i love his shots. They are very nice and fluid. Roger was amazing with everything at the masters. He didn't let Andy win and killed him. It was great and good enough to crack the top 5 for the first time ever. Robredo stays put and Mike Bryan falls out.

Roger is the man who really shines with his brillant display of technique, grace, and artistry on the court. He proves himself to be one of the most talented tennis players to emerge in the era. He dramatically moves from #6 to finish this year as #1. Mardy Fish, a man of great potential and fun-character moves up to finish this year at #2. David Nalbandian's perservance and stigma leads him to finish in the top 3. Juan Carlos Ferrero has had a great year, but his recent performance was disappointing. Knowing that he has a sinus infection and fatigue from the last 4 weeks, he does not lose too many points; he ends up at #4. Mike and Bob Bryan's technique and attitude make them so fun to watch. They finish in the top 5. Tommy Robredo did well at the French Open and proved himself to be a worthy contender. Tim Henman did exceptional the last 3 weeks, and the rest of the list had a great year.
