Britney Spears is desperately trying to give up cigarettes before she launches her new album - but is failing miserably.

The pop singer is gearing up to release her LP later this year her first since 2001's eponymous album - and wants to be nicotine free when the record hits the shelves.

However, Spears' attempts to wean herself off tobacco have been so far unsuccessful - much to her mother LYNNE's dismay.

A pal says, "Britney's tried everything from nicotine patches to acupuncture to try and kick it for good, but it's no use. Her mom is always on at her back about it.

I'm sure she could do it if she really put her mind to it..my mom and my aunt both quit after smoking for 20 years (my mom started at age 13 and my aunt at 14) and my grandmother quit after smoking for about 35 years. Also, Kate Hudson said on Leno that she just quit smoking after about 8 years cuz she's pregnant. So I'm sure Brit will quit eventually..I have faith in her ;)

My parents would kill me if I ever started smoking!!!

Its good she's trying and her mom is always telling her to stop, but she is addicted...hopefully she will realize she HAS TO STOP....like tmygirl said she has to put her mind to it and she will...hopefully.

My dad quit.. I'm not sure how long he smoked for.. It was something only my mom knew he did.. But I could smell it, and the ciggerates in the pocket of his coat that would be sitting on a chair, was a dead give away..

He always would be in the garage smoking..

But the day his mother died, he put down the ciggerates.. Never to light up another one since.. It's been almost 4 years..

I'm sure she'll be able to kick the habit if she really puts her mind to it. The trick is trying not to think about smoking and keeping your mind off it by doing other things.

I hope she manages it.

I wonder how many times they tried before succeeding ;)

I also wonder for how long she has smoked... but some people just get more easily addicted to it than others.

My aunt had tried once before then decided that she didn't want to quit..don't ask  But my mom had never tried to quit before..that was her first try. I remember she used to suck on lollipops 24/7 :p

I think Britney started smoking after her breakup with Justin..but I could be wrong ;)

I hope she quits. If she plans on doing all the promotion and stuff for her album (and hopefully a concert) she would really be better off not to smoke.

Smoking to releave some type of stress is all psychosomatic.. You do it because "it's going to calm the nerves.." You still got the same damn problem plus all the ones from picking up ciggerates..

My friend decided she was going to start smoking, resulted in her not being able to breath.. She only smoked for a year, She was rushed to the ER because it caused her to have a sever asthma attack..

Britney is a grown damn woman and can smoke if she wants to. Ive known people who have smoked since the 70s and they are still healthy. Britney doesnt sing live anyway so its not like she has to worry about her voice. And smoking is not a bad habit its damn addictive and its extremely hard to stop doing that. Id rather her be a smoker than a heroin adict or alcoholic. No one knows when she started, or why she started. Britney will stop when she feels she needs to not any other time and no one on this board can make her stop.
