No mariah songs allowed on American Idol

People magazine reports contestants will not be allowed to sing certain songs from artists like Bruce Springsteen, Mariah Carey, Carly Simon and James Taylor.

Fox won't give an official reason why, but a source says acquiring the television rights to the song can be difficult or expensive. Another song that's banned is "Fallin'" by Alicia Keys (news). Sharp-tongued judge Simon Cowell says there's a simple reason for banning that one: The judges have heard it a million times.

But look, if those singers actually saw those contestants sing those songs pretty badly on the season premiere show in January, they would really be irate! They'd sue the show big time,even the contestants! They're very sensitive about their music and don't want no one to screw the songs or the vocals up! Look, I sing way off to Mariah's own "Someday," a little too loud, but it's only for fun. It's really over-the-top singers like Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera that don't like it. Many of those contestants TRY TOO HARD to sound like them, copying Mariah's high octave and other things. So some of them need to calm it down a bit on the oversinging and find some other songs to sing to.

yep yep...that's a good thing though. i mean sooooo many people sing these songs to TRY to prove that they're somewhat as good as these 2 great vocalists!

Also very likely that certain artists are selfish with their music rights...like it's really a big deal of some wannabe wants to sing one of their songs on American Idol? Celebrities can be *******s.

I can understand the Mariah Carey songs, cause no one can do them as well as her, but James Taylor? I love his music, but I didnt think too many people did his songs
