'American Idol' judge Randy Jackson reviewed the runner-up's self titled solo debut, and wasn't too kind with his "dawg" Justin Guarini. He wrote in Savoy magazine, "Jus, you know I'm here for you dawg, but I got to keep it real. I don't understand this CD or the lack of great songs. This project was just a miss by all involved. I don't think anyone knew what kind of record to make with American Idol's second runner-up from the first season. It has no direction, purpose, soul or hits. I am sure this is not quite what Justin would have wanted for his self-titled debut." Jackson rated the album 5 out of 10 and said, "Everyone who had a hand in this catastrophe, y'all really should rethink your jobs."

i heard him sing sorry on oprah and thought it was only ok. i think ruben and clay's first singles sounded so much better. and justin kept trying to over-do it. if that song is any indication of how the other songs on his album sound, i can understand why randy would say that. he has a good voice, i just don't think they've chosen the right songs for him yet.

have any of you guys seen randy lately? i saw a glimpse of him the other day and for some reason he looks so different. did he lose a lot of weight or something? maybe i wasn't even looking at the right guy

I love his debut... I think its just more, I dunno... it got like, no promo... does anyone even know if there is a video for 'sorry'? What's his next single supposed to be? I think it should be "I Saw Your Face'.. he shoulda did that from the beginning.

i agree HipHop! i love I Saw Your Face! but some fans think it's too RandB for their taste..i really think majority of American Idol fans are into pop music

Your right.. however, I think Justin can be both... and some R&B does touch the pop side... I dunno, it's kinda complicated lol.

And when was the last time Randy produced something great? The only thing wrong with this album is that it got NO promotion! No video, no radio single, it was released and only people who followed JG's career or kept up with AI knew his album was being released. I mean, damn, Conditions of my Heart is beautiful, and if Randy can't hear that, I think he should reconsider HIS position in the music industry.

I think that album was a good album with some pretty decent tracks, but nowhere near promoted enough. It's a shame because I'm betting that these really good songs will just go to waste.

gastric bypass surgery???? lmao it's ok I still love you

now as for the album, I have it and I like it, but I don't think it's anything spectacular. I feel bad that they didn't give him nearly as much promo time as he should have gotten for that cd, but I'm not sorry that I spent my 8.99 + tax on it :) Maybe the next one will be better??? if there's a next one

You knew what I was talking about right?

Therefore shut your mouth, since I did an acceptable job of explaining it.

I thought that Justin Guarini made a good debut album. Justin made this album for Justin, not for the AI folks. This album has that breezy summer vibe to it. The uptempo songs are fun, and the ballads are smooth. And Justin sounded far better on this album than he ever did on "American Idol." I even played this album in South Carolina on a road trip--matched very well with the hills, winding roads and landscapes. Although this album didn't sell as well, I still play it a lot.

He looks a lot better. His former girth was a little concerning to me, but I am pleased that he took care of that immediately this year.
