My friend are going to probably go to either San Francisco or L.A. for part of winter break in a couple months, so I'm "researching" things we can do in both places, if this all works out, so we can decide where to go based on that.
She's doing L.A., I'm doing San Francisco. So does anyone wanna tell me about some cool stuff to do there? We both also just turned 21 this year, if that helps at all. LOL.
Thanks!

I live in Sacramento and go to San Fran all the time. Honestly I can say I really don't think there is anything cool to see except to where things were filmed. Maybe you can go try to find where certain celebrities live. For ex: Robin Williams lives there. My uncle actually lives in San Fran too. The Golden Gate Bridge is real cool too. If you do go make sure you walk across it. Oh, and the Hyatt Regency hotel. Its pretty cool... Go to the top and eat there. Aaron Carter ate there ;) haha. Other than that.... it's boring. It's just a bunch of lil shops. Oh, and take the ferry over to... I forgot what its called. If you go to Embarcadero (In San Fran) u take the ferry over to this one island and its pretty cool there- same thing tho, just shops. But the Ferry ride is fun if u stand outside and let the wind blow u away. Well I hope that helped?

See, thats fine though! She needs a relaxing vacation with not much to do other than hang out.
So maybe it'd be a good place to go and shop around and just chill.
Thanks! That actually did help me!

I've been to San Francisco a couple times--most of them when I was way younger--and I've never done that.

I go there almost every weekend. lol!! we usually shop in union square, and drive around... but the places that are fun are pier 39, lots of shops, sea lions and what not... you can take a ferry to alcatraz if thats your thing, I personally was bored.. lol! take in a play, the theatres are great!! def. the golden gate bridge you can go to tiburon too! and of course the restaraunt nSYNC did "this I promise you" at. lol! Personally i'd say LA 'cause i'm in SF too much but either way both places kick ass! :)

Also, I believe the Winchester House is a short drive outside of San Fran... And that is definitely something to see. actually 50 minutes it's in san jose.. in san jose they also have valley fair, and downtown is good if ya like clubs... :). The way I drive its' like 30 from sf though...

But yeah, definetely check out Pier 39 and Fisherman's Warf. Fun times. Uh, lots of shopping to do there lol just watch out, theres lots of rude people down there haha. Cable cars are pretty fun though, just don't fall off! :)

if you go stay at the powell hotel, its quaint but its RIGHT by the cable car turnaround and basically in the center of everything. everything is near. cable cars are fun. have some pizza and beer. go to the japanese tea garden with Brian. i did that. its fun times just dont let him kill you. go to saucelido. except dont spell it like me. its a nice quiet little town with lots of art galleries.
china town is fun!!! actually there are these little figurines that i want but couldnt get when i was there. you should get them for me...lol they are little porcelin chinese people having sex. they are really amusing.
eat at the cheesecake factory on top of macys that was fun.
just basically walking around and looking at everything is good times there. jenaya and i had a blast when we were there. i posted some pics recently of our trip but you';d have to look back a few pages....lol

I had the best Chinese food in Chinatown! Fisherman's Wharf and Ghirradelli Square were fun too. Lombard Street is the crookidest street. The cable cars were a must!
The Winchester Mystery House was spooooooooooky! The peculiarities of the House are the number 13 is used often--13 bathrooms, 13 windows in a room, 13 panes in a window, 13 holes in a sink, 13 hooks in a closet, 13 lights on a chandelier. Stairways lead to ceilings, doors lead to nowhere, stairs curve at odd angles, and few rooms are on the same plane.
If you're into it, there are trips to Alcatraz.
I checked out a couple of plays when I was there--saw Cats--it was fabulous!
There's Paramounts Great America--an amusement park. It's more than that--it bigger and badder.
Just a few things. Hope that gave you a few ideas.

Amanda--I just went back and looked at your pictures. Totally cute! I have NO idea how I missed those before. Looks like a blast though!
Trinity--Thanks for the ideas! Sounds like you had a great time too!
See, I think it would be good for her to be in a place that she doesn't have to do much. You know? So its fine if there's not a ton of stuff to do.
Plus, the upside of goin to San Francisco is that we'll get to see my brother who is like her brother as well.
Thanks everyone for the ideas though!

Not much to do in San Francisco?? lol are you people crazy?? (Anyway I know I never post here anymore and this is kinda old, but I have to post about The City!). I live 25 miles south, and when I'm on my own I'm so moving back up to SF!!
*Union Square -- great upscale and regular shops (Macy's, Gucci, Dior, Tiffany's, etc), wonderful restaurants. It's a must. And a few blocks down there is San Francisco Centre a nine story mall with 4 floors devoted just to Nordstrom!! And there is a lot more shopping and sights on the way down there.
*Fisherman's Wharf/Pier 39 -- very touristy, lots of souvenir shops, beautiful waterfront views, good food. Also a must do.
*Alcatraz and Angel Island -- beautiful ferry ride, Angel Island is very beautiful, Alcatraz is interesting and very historic.
*Golden Gate Bridge -- Walk or drive across, mid afternoon is best because that's when there's a chance that there won't be fog hiding the top!
*Irving Street -- very cute shops, and Pasquale's Pizza has the best pizza I've ever eaten!!
*Haight and Ashbury -- cool stores, hippy atmosphere, very cultural.
*City Hall -- it's absolutely regal and gorgous!!! You have to go inside and just look around. Civic Center is also nice if you ignore the homeless people.
*Golden Gate Park -- it's a beautiful park, and there's the Japanese Tea Garden, Lawrence Hall of Science, Aquarium, pedal boating at Stow Lake, buffalo, and many walking and biking trails.
*Nob Hill area -- Grace Cathedral, Mark Hopkins and Fairmont Hotels. The hotels are very upscale and beautiful, you can have lunch or dinner there or even just look around.
*Chinatown -- Good cheap shopping, cultural and interesting.
*Castro area -- fun shops and a good cultural experience.
*North Beach -- wonderful restaurants and lots of strip clubs (lol if you're over 18).
*You have to ride a Cable Car!! If you take the California and Powell line you'll end up down by the water near the Hyatt Regency, or you could take the line down to Fisherman's Wharf.
*There's the best little beach near the Golden Gate Bridge. It's called China Beach, and it has breathtaking views of the bay and ocean, and it's in the nicest neighborhood in the City - Sea Cliff (Benjamin Bratt lives there). But since you would be here during the winter, you should south to Half Moon Bay or Moss Beach. It'll be less foggy and a bit warmer there.
*Marin -- there's Muir Woods, you can take the ferry to Sausalito or Tiburon which are both very nice places.
And of course there are just lots of restaurants, clubs, theaters, etc. Great America is closed during the winter, and the "cafe" where *NSYNC filmed TIPY is non-existant...they just created it to film the video!

Hey I just went there a few weeks ago! :D
We didn't stay for that long, though... but we walked around Pier 39 for a bit, and then had dinner with my friend who lives there. But we (the bfriend) want to go back... and I want to hang around Peir 39 again since we werent there for that long, and I REALLY want to go to Alcatraze(sp?!). I think you should do that, if you're interested in that sorta thing. I'm pretty sure that it's haunted, so that makes it even better! :D
I told the bfriend that I want to go back there again soon, so this is a good thread for me as well! :D YAY!

I'm glad this thread helped you too! LOL.

You're welcome...I'm happy to help :) I love San Francisco so much!! lol I'm probably gonna appear somewhat obsessed, but trust me I'm not in a bad way!! ;) The City's just so much fun. Anyway, I thought of a few more things to do and places to see that are too good to miss...
Twin Peaks, on clear days you can see the whole City and across the Bay.
Embaradero, in the winter they have the Kristi Yamaguchi Ice Skating Rink.
Lombard Street, the crookedest street in the world (so they say).
Mission Dolores, the oldest structure in SF.
The Cliff House is a great restaurant, there are good tourist shops there, there's Seal Rock, wonderful ocean views, and the ruins of the old Sutro Bath Houses.
Pacific Bell Park is the best baseball park in the country, but if you're not a fan of baseball you may not be that impressed.
In Pacific Heights there are some really nice and unique stores, and it's also an extremely fancy and rich area.

This is kinda random, but my friend took me to Haight street once, and I HATED it! There were people all over... like I was kinda scared. But I scare easily, so... (grew up in kinda of a small town). I dunno. :D
