Larry King Live: 10/14/03
Guest Host: Ryan Seacrest
Guests: Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey
Ryan: "You have through your career been compared to other artists such as Britney Spears. How does it feel being compared to others?"
Jessica: "I have been my whole life. Since i was 12 years old auditioning for the Mickey Mouse club. Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera both beat me out. Ya know, i froze in the audition. I forgot everything and i ended up not getting it. And then ya know I signed with Columbia when i was 17 . Britney signed with Jive the week before. Christina signed with RCA the week after. It like came back around. The media has always kept it. So it's been like this ongoing thing for me to try to differentiate myself and try to seperate myself. I try to do that with my image. I try to do that through love and the kind of music that i sing and hopefully people can just get over the comparisons. Even though they're great comparisons I'd rather be known for Jessica Simpson."
Ryan: "There was a moment that i've seen many times on television. That was from the VMA's where Britney kissed Madonna. What did you guys think about that when you saw what happened onstage?"
(VMA's clip is shown)
Nick: "I had heard about the kiss leading up to the night. I was actually looking forward to it. (laughs). After it happened i was a bit let down. I thought that it was executed, not the best it could've been. But it's an attention grabber. The shock value certainly was there."
Jessica: "Made the cover of magazines."
Ryan: "Nick you would have done it. But Jessica would you have done something like that?"
Jessica: "Depends on who I was kissing."
Ryan: "Well, with Madonna."
Jessica: "If she asked me to kiss her, would I do it onstage? I don't know. I don't know."
Nick: "I mean, i'll take Madonna and Britney anyday over Micheal Jackson and Lisa-Marie Presley."
(everyone laughs)
Jessica: "I don't know. I wouldn't toungue her. Wouldn't stick my toungue in there (laughs). But for me that's what i'm saying. I'm not that kind of publicity, attention grabber type of artist. I'd rather do it with my music."
