Hailey meets Clay Aiken

We received the phone call late in the morning. It was the Make a Wish Foundation responding to an application for our 4 yr. old daughter Hailey. Hailey suffers from a bone disease called Osteogenesis Imperfecta, otherwise known as Brittle Bone Disease. Her bones break from little or no apparant cause. About 7 mths. ago, Hailey became addicted to the American Idol tv show. She instantly fell in love with Clay Aiken. She counted the days until she could watch him again on tv. She watched every show, and when Clay didn't come in 1st place, Hailey started to cry. When the Make a Wish foundation asked Hailey what she wanted to wish for, immeditely, she said "I want to meet Clay Aiken"! She didn't want a trip to Disney, or a backyard swingset....she just wanted to see Clay. Her wish was granted, and we were picked up in a limo, taken to the American Idol concert, and backstage to meet Clay.....Clay could not have been more wonderful to Hailey. Even though Hailey wants to chase a ball, or ride a bike and she can't, Clay made her feel so special with hugs, kisses and a red rose! Hailey will never forget this night....the one time in her life that everyone else wanted to be Hailey. Clay Aiken was fabulous to Hailey, and we will NEVER forget this night. Even with Clay's busy schedule with the American Idol Tour....he took his own time to meet a 4 yr. little girl. Words just can't describe how wonderful this night was. He even allowed pictures, autographs and a video of the meeting. This was the best night of Hailey's life!

Is he not the sweetest guy?! I'm so glad Hailey's wish came true!

After the meeting with Clay Aiken

The day after the concert, Hailey and our family couldn't stop thinking about how wonderful this meeting was. I have been putting together a memory box for Hailey with all of her "Clay" item in it. We have a photo albumn of all their pictures, her Clay t-shirt, lots of autographs, a key chain, button, mug and MANY other items. Clay will be in Massachusetts on Dec. 15th for a local radio concert, and Hailey is very disappointed that she won't be able to see him again. I have 2 tickets, but that's all I was able to get, and of course these aren't tickets allowing us to meet Clay. We wrote him a letter of thanks after the meeting, but I don't know if he ever received it. Hailey has made Clay MANY MANY birthday cards and pictures, but think the mailman will automaticaly bring them to Clay. She doesn't understand that we would need an address for him!!! But, she keeps holding on to them! We have has new CD, and she knows every word to every song already!!! She just loves Clay!!!

Also, for the memory box, include an unopened copy of the "Measure of a Man" CD, so she can see what she was actually listening to when she was 4. I hope that she gets another chance to see him again. Very nice story that you wrote.
