So me and my friend are working on this mini-essay thing we have for homework in history, but see....my teacher didn't really teach this stuff yet. So we're both lost and have no idea what the question means, or what the answer is.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. :)
The question is: Why is Taft considered "a round peg in a square hole"? Assess his career as president and his progressive record.

I would agree to the above statement from Jenn. This site emphasizes that point:

I hope this little bit of information is helpful. Maybe a start for you?
BTW, I am horrible at history - so I am not much help otherwise.

Thanks so much guys. :) I asked my dad about it, but he didn't know, and my mom's at work so I can't ask her. And the textbook that I have is way too difficult, and it didn't have much about that in there.
Muchas gracias!!

Taft was elected president in 1908, and was supported by Roosevelt. He was more conservative than Roosevelt, and had a poor judgement of the public's opinions. He was a weak public speaker, and weighed over 300 pounds. He had to have a new bathtub installed in the White House, and it was big enough to fit 4 average sized men.

That much I knew. I just don't remember too much of what he did as President.
I DO know that in 1912, TR decided to oppose him, and ran for President as a third-party candidate, which split the vote, and enabled Woodrow Wilson to become President.

the only thing i know about taft is that he was extremly fat and they had to make a special chair for his fat to spill into cubby holes built into the side, and the chair currently resides at the Riverside Mission Inn (five mins from Sparks home)
