Simon Cowell might have to learn how to criticize in different languages.

The producers behind Britain's "Pop Idol" and "American Idol" will hold a "World Idol" competition on Christmas and New Year's Day in London, FOX announced Friday (November 14).

Kelly Clarkson will vie for the inaugural title against the U.K.'s Will Young and nine other singers from different countries. What the prize will be has not been announced, and only winners from first seasons of the "Idol" shows are eligible, so Ruben Studdard will have to wait until the next "World Idol" competition.

A panel of judges with one representative from each country will critique the performances, and viewers around the world will vote. Details on the voting process have not been released, but FOX said it will be set up so singers from larger countries do not have an unfair advantage.

The other competitors will be Belgium's Peter Evrard, Canada's Ryan Malcolm, Germany's Alexander Klaws, Lebanon's Diana Karazon, Netherlands' Jamai Loman, Norway's Kurt Nilsen, Poland's Alicja Janosz, South Africa's Heinz Winckler and an Australian contestant who will be selected Wednesday. Shows based on Britain's original "Pop Idol" are seen in more than 20 countries.

Whether or not Cowell will be one of the judges has not been announced, but he could represent the United States or the U.K.

"World Idol" will air at 8 p.m. ET on December 25 and 9 p.m. ET on January 1.

Yes, that is true. I am from the US, so I won't be voting. If Will is the best they have going against her, Kelly should walk away with it easily. Did you hear the American fans when Will sang on the AI1 finale? They didn't seem interested very much.

Yea, you cant vote for your countries Idol, so I couldnt vote for Ryan Malcolm :(. if you could itd be obvious Kelly would win, doesnt give smaller countries a fair shot, so its understandable and fair. I like Kelly but I think Ill wait and watch and vote for who I think is second best since I cant vote for Ryan :D

And IMO Kelly is gonna kick eveyone's @$$ at World idol! 'Cause c'mon with her amazing voice she's got a sure win. There are like 8 guys and 3 girls and out of the 3 Kelly blows them a mile ahead! And I've hered them all except for Diana and she's got some competion from the guys but she'll out sing them all and win this competion!

diana is a really great voice, her voice is seriously powerful and can be very calm and soothing. She's good but her songs aren't really catchy. I hope she'll sing something good and diverse...do they have to sing in english??

That's not true. If you look at the rules on the official website, it says nothing about not being able to vote for Kelly. It does, however, say that she will start off with the most American points, which would lead me to assume that you can vote for her, or others, if you so desire.

For a few of her performances, you can make the arguement possibly, but Kelly sings almost all the time. Her performances of Without You(second) and Stuff Like That There were definitely not screeching. You can't honestly argue that it was. Actually, most of her performances you can't make arguements about honestly. She will win the competition.

I won't take it away from her that she IS good when she's not screaming....BUT....as a singer, I DO know that she does something called BELTING....something that a singer is NEVER to do unless they want to jeopardize their career by growing nodules on their vocal chords....Kelly already has them, Julie Andrews had them, and can't sing again....if Kelly keeps belting like she does, she'll lose her voice in no time flat! Why is Mariah being bashed? She has accomplished more than any other female of all time so whatever she has done has worked, even if she's not doing so well right now. I do feel Kelly should not belt as much and, judging from her comments yesterday, she probably feels the same way.

As for Kelly, I voted for her and thought she did a good job but may have some compeition from Kurt of Finland.
