Personally, as a Yankee fan, I love the deal.
Having watched the Sox for years both from NYC and from Boston, this is the kind of deal that will break the team: The egos of Pedro, Manny, Nomar and Schilling? And, hopefully (yes, as a Yankee fan, I'm saying hopefully) A-Rod? We've seen this before, where the Sox went on a high-profile spending spree, and then watched it all crash.
I heard one person on NY sports radio saying that the driving force behind the Sox, i.e. Mueller, Damon and Millar, all had "career years." I don't put that much stock in that though, I think that's underselling the three.
If the Sox did get A-Rod, I'd hate to be a Sox fan... With the highest ticket prices already in the league, you might be looking at $20 upper bleacher seats.

hey if you can get to see some of the premiere players of this modern era on the same team you'd pay whatever...gosh look what people pay to see Bruce for a night....anyway i think it's just sour grapes for you yankee fans...we love it No Yankee fan will go near this...they're apopleptic about this.

I actually heard this weekend that there is a deal in the works where A-Rod would go to the Sox and Manny would be (part of?) the package heading to Texas.

Apparantly Schilling is already getting his way in Boston, with the hiring of Terry Francona as manager.
Curt is a great pitcher, but his ego is even greater. Watch out, Sox! (Although if Curt can get them past the Yankees, I'll be a very happy camper! :p )

Get the facts straight....Francona's frontrunner status put the Red Sox on Schilling's shortlist....

Francona to the Sox? The Sox keep making moves I like. He wasn't able to win with apretty talented team in Philly, and had to deal with less egos there. Now he's supposed to reign in this crew? Sure.

I guess experience in his profession(in the front office, on the bench) accounts for nothing? People develop better skills in their chosen field with that experience. Philly was a training ground for a young manager. And according to Schilling, Francona wasn't given the "tools" to succeed. If you read anything about the screening process he went through to get the job I'm sure you'd have a different opinion. Although I do detect a wariness from your posts masquerading as bravado. The man is pure baseball. Red Sox Nation is happy with the choice.

"I've been released from six teams, I've been fired as a manager..." - Terry Francona.
As a player, Francona was never a starter. As a manager, he never was .500 manager, twice with wins in the 60s. He was a minor league manager and a hitting instructor for the ChiSox organization... Nothing stands out. He was the bench coach for the A's this year. We saw how when egos and tempers came out the team crumbled. You had a prime seat for that. That was kid's play (literally) compared to some of the veteran egos Francona will have to deal with in Boston.
Weariness? Maybe. What Yankee fan wouldn't feel some bit of nervousness? But I have much more faith in my assessment of things than all the hype that's being built. I look at some of the supposive superteams that were built that fell apart with all the personalities, and see the Sox being in the same vein.
