then why does the BRITNEYSPEARS OFFICAL SITE
DECLARE BRITNEY THE ONLY FEMALE ARTIST TO HAVE 4 # NUMBER ONE ALBUMS IN ROW

Mariah Carey had 9 number albums in a row
and how many # one singles from every album go to number one

and on the britney offical site they said that "according to soundscan britney is the only female artist to have had 4 number one albums in a row

Mariah Carey is the only number one selling female artist in history- beating our the Beatles and Elvis
Britney can never do that
only a talented real artist can do that

As of September 1999, Mariah Carey had sold more than 120 million albums and singles worldwide and earned an astounding 84 RIAA gold, platinum, and multi-platinum certifications for her singles, albums, and videos. As one of the most popular recording artists of the 1990s, Mariah has provided an ongoing soundtrack to the decade. With the arrival of Rainbow, she continues to give voice to the emotions of our age.

of course we all know she has 15 number one singles

I read somewhere that she had sold over 150 million records but I will find the proff soon

heres what i found:

Most Number 1s
This, possibly, the most important record, is held by Elvis Presley. He has had 18 chart-toppers. You can see how this record has 'changed hands' over the years here.

Madonna is the top woman with 10. Top female group is The Spice Girls with 9.

Only five acts in chart history have got into double figures with their tally of chart-toppers. They are: Elvis Presley (18), The Beatles (17), Cliff Richard (14 : six of them with The Shadows, one with The Drifters, one with The Young Ones), Westlife (12 : one of them with Mariah Carey) and Madonna (10).
Westlife hold the record for getting into double-figures in the shortest time (2 years and 10 months [ie. 149 weeks] - more than 3 months quicker than The Beatles (who took 165 weeks). Unlike Westlife, however, The Beatles tended to spend several weeks at the summit, slowing down their release rate.)

It is worth pointing out that Paul McCartney has featured on more Number 1s than any other artist. He loses out in this section due to his diverse range of credits. He has, in fact, appeared on 23 Number 1s; solo (1), with Wings (1), Stevie Wonder, The Christians et al (1), Ferry Aid (1), =Band Aid (1) and The Beatles (17). John Lennon has featured in 20 chart-toppers, three solo Number 1s adding to his tally of 17 with The Beatles. On this basis, George Harrison ties with Elvis, having had two solo Number 1s (if we count "My Sweet Lord"'s separate occupancies of the top slot as different records) as well as 16 with The Beatles (he didn't appear on "Ballad Of John And Yoko.")

Artist with Most Weeks at Number 1
It's Elvis Presley. He has topped the chart for a total of 77 weeks.
Top group is The Beatles (69 weeks). Top female performer is Madonna (21 weeks).
In his many different manifestations, however, Paul McCartney has spent 89 weeks at the top.

Artist with Most Weeks at Number 1

Most Consecutive Number 1s
7 - by The Beatles and Westlife.
The Beatles' stretch began with "A Hard Day's Night" in 1964 and lasted to "Yellow Submarine"/"Eleanor Rigby" in 1966. The run was broken when "Penny Lane"/"Strawberry Fields Forever" merely made the number 2 position the following year!
Westlife's stint began with their debut, "Swear it Again" in 1999 and ran through to "My Love" in November 2000 (though one hit was a 'duet' with Mariah Carey). It was broken by "What Makes A Man" which peaked at number 2 the following month.

Beatles fans are, however, quick to point out that "Ain't She Sweet" (which made number 29 in 1964) was recorded in 1961, well before their EMI contract. It was issued by Polydor to 'cash in' on the success of the fab four. Fans argue that this was not an "official" Beatles release. If this logic is accepted (though the track did make the charts), The Beatles run of successive number ones begins with "From Me To You" in April 1963 - making a total of 11.

Top female group is The Spice Girls (6 in a row from "Wannabe" through to "Too Much").

found this interesting:
Most Successful Acts Not To Have A Number 1 Single
Depeche Mode have had most Top 40 hits without making No. 1 (36 of them!). In fact, they've never risen above No. 4.
Billy Fury has spent 231 weeks on the Top 40. No other artist has spent longer on the chart without making No. 1. His best chart placing was Number 2 for "Jealousy" in 1961.
Special mention must also go to Sash! who has made Number 2 on five occasions. No other artist has been 'runner up' with so many singles without ever making it to Number 1.
(Jon) Bon Jovi has featured on eighteen Top 10 singles but never made the number 1 position. One hit behind, Janet Jackson has appeared on seventeen Top 10 singles without reaching the top spot.

I dont give a rat's ass how many artists have had #1 albums, I'm talking about DEBUTING at #1. Meaning, FIRST WEEK @ #1. FIRST WEEK.

That's amazing to me because Britney's FIRST 4 albums have ALL DEBUTED at #1.

Mariah hasn't had 4 #1 albums in a row

Mariah's #1 albums are:
Mariah Carey
Music Box
Daydream
Butterfly

none of them came out in a row...there were albums in between that didn't reach #1.

these are US though. I don't know about any other countries. it's probably different for like Japan or something. she's like Britney Spears over there

no one cares?! are you sure!?
if nobody cares then haters wouldn't pick on her.. they would simply neglect her existence..

besides if nobody cares about her then she wouldn't have sold over a million copies of her album in just 3 weeks.. would she?!

ps. i'm not a fan of britney but some fans here act very immature giving mariah's fan a bad reputation.. see where i'm coming from?

she did sell a little over a million copies.. it was mentioned in an article few days ago and it was posted in livedaily boards..

and if you want to know how much she actually sold you can go to hitsdaily and add up her three weeks of sales ;) over 600k in her first week+ over 300k in her 2nd week + over 100k in her 3rd week = do the math...

shaniah's album sold over 4 million copies and in billboard it's not certified not even platinum..

have you seen her bank account?!
have you ever heard of a word called bankrupcy?!.. toni braxton was f****** rich and sold millions of albums and guess what happened over the years?! she lost all her money.. you don't know what will happen in the future.. anything is possible

mariah cares about her album sales cause she has a company right now and when you have a company you need some budget to start business.. she needs to spend millions on her new acts.. and if she failed to sell albums and kept spending millions then she would be bankrupted.. ;)

LOL it seems like you don't want to believe the facts..
you can go and see for yourself at the billboard charts that shania's album isn't certified while everyone knows that she sold over 4 million copies..

as for hitsdaily it's a very reliable source and doesn't post lies.. how do you know that it posts lies when their sales number are the same as if not close to the sales numbers in soundscan?! :o ;)
mariah's album was certified platinum in december but she only managed to sell a milliion copy in feb/mar..

albums certifications don't mean a thing.. britney just sold over a million copy and her album isn't certified for platinum ;)

Who are the best selling artists of all time?

The Best Selling Artists of all time (based on combined RIAA certifications of all albums) are the Beatles, Garth Brooks, and Led Zeppelin. Garth moved back ahead of Led Zeppelin with the release of Sevens and threatens to overtake the Beatles. Other artists who have sold more than 50 million albums include: the Eagles, Billy Joel, Barbra Streisand, Aerosmith, Elton John, and Elvis Presley. As of August 1998, Elton John became the second best selling solo artist of all time. The next three solo artists on the list are Billy Joel, Barbra Streisand, and Elvis Presley. The Beatles have the most consecutive #1 albums with 8 scored between 1965 and 1968.

Based on Joel Whitburn's Top Pop Albums 1955-1996 and subsequent RIAA certifications, these artists have the most gold and platinum albums (each album is counted only once even if the album was certified gold, platinum, and multi-platinum):

1. Elvis Presley (80)
2. Barbra Streisand (46) [the female with the most multi-platinum titles]
3. The Beatles (39)
4. The Rolling Stones (38)
5. Neil Diamond (37)
6. Elton John (32)
7. Kenny Rogers/First Edition (28)
8. Frank Sinatra(26)Frank Sinatra at CDnow
9. Bob Dylan (28) [two with the Band]
10. Willie Nelson (24)
11. George Strait (24) [all 24 have gone gold and platinum]
12. Kiss (23)
13. Rush (22)
14. Alabama (22)

Joel Whitburn's Top Pop Singles 1955-1999 listed these artists as having the most gold and platinum singles. I'll update the list with subsequent RIAA certifications.

1. Elvis Presley (24+28)
2. The Beatles (18+6)
3. Whitney Houston (14+6)
4. Janet Jackson (16+3)
5. Elton John (13+6)
6. Madonna (18)
7. Michael Jackson (7+9)
8. Temptations (10+6)
9. Mariah Carey (7+8)
10. Aretha Franklin (15)

Keys Unlocks Second No. 1 Debut

"The Diary of Alicia Keys" gives the young R&B sensation her second No. 1 debut on The Billboard 200. The only newcomer in the top-10 this week, the J Records album sold 618,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan, to take the top spot. That's the third highest opening week of the calendar year and more than double the best sales week of Keys' first effort, "Songs in A Minor."

"Songs in A Minor" bowed at No. 1 with 236,000 copies in summer 2001, and scored its best week during that year's holiday season, when it moved 241,000 copies. Two years and five Grammy Awards later, the album has sold 5.6 million copies.

The new album was preceded by a flurry of television appearances, including heavy exposure on BET and MTV and two performances last week on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno." The album's first single, "You Don't Know My Name," is a top-5 track on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and a top-15 title on the Hot 100.

Toby Keith's "Shock'n Y'all" (DreamWorks) soars 6-2 in its fifth week on the chart, but is a distant second to Keys. The album is up on a 4% sales increase to 213,000 copies, giving the set a to-date total of 1.39 million. Keith is the subject of a heavy promotional campaign on CMT, leading up Saturday's (Dec. 13) premiere of his new video "American Soldier."

Josh Groban's "Closer" (Warner Bros.) follows Keith's effort up the chart, with a 7-3 move. Sales were down just 7% to 188,000 copies, giving the album a four-week total of 961,000 copies. Groban's music is being heavily pushed on America Online, and the artist will appear on Monday's (Dec. 15) episode of the syndicated "The Sharon Osbourne Show."

The 14th volume in the "NOW That's What I Call Music!" (Universal/EMI/Zomba/Sony) series rises one slot to No. 4, withstanding a 15.5% sales drop to 186,000 copies. Since its release five weeks ago, the hits compilation has sold 1.13 million units.

OutKast's two-CD set "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" (Arista) jumps 10-5 on a 5.7% sales gain to 178,000 copies. The set has now sold 2.15 million copies. OutKast is tied with Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Pharrell Williams with six nominations for the 46th Grammy Awards, which were revealed last week.

Teen star Hilary Duff's "Metamorphosis" is down 4-6, the result of a 31% sales dip to 154,000 copies. The singer has sold 1.45 million copes of her Buena Vista debut. Britney Spears' "In the Zone" (Jive) falls 3-7 in its third week on the tally. Although sales were down 40% to 150,000 copies, it was enough to bring Spears' to-date total to just above the 1 million mark.

No Doubt's Interscope compilation "The Singles 1992-2003" slips 2-8 on a 43% sales dip to 144,000 copies. In two weeks of release, the set has sold 397,000 copies. "The Very Best of Sheryl Crow" jumps back into the top-10 with a 15-9 gain. Sales of the A&M/Interscope compilation were up 4% to 132,000 copies. In its five weeks of release, the album has sold 662,000 copies.

Last week's chart topper, Jay-Z's "The Black Album" (Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam), falls to No. 10 on a 52% slide to 124,000 copies. To date, the set has sold 1.1 million copies.

Harry Connick Jr. soars 23-12 with his "Home for the Holidays" (Columbia), a career-high mark for the New Orleans-based artist. Following his Thanksgiving night NBC holiday special and a slew of television appearances, sales of the album were up 18% to 113,000 copies. His 1994 set "When My Heart Finds Christmas" peaked at No. 13.

Trace Adkins scored his best sales week with the Capitol set "Comin' on Strong." The album bows at No. 31 with 62,000 copies. His 2001 "Greatest Hits" collection peaked at No. 9, but sold 56,000 copies in its best week.

telling me i'm not a huge mariah fan just because i post some facts is immature don't you think?! i've bought all of mariah's album and i'm a member in her official message board..

yes mariah debuted at #3 what does that suppose to mean?! heck madonna's album debuted at #1 and has sold a little over 600k... a lot of artist debut at #1 and don't sell well...

when i said that mariah sold a little over one million copies ( in the states) i got my facts from billboard.. what's you source?! i'd love to believe that she sold 3 million copies in the states.. i did my math guess unfortunatly she was out of billboards chart when she just hit the million mark..

can you tell me where did the 3 million figure came from?! last time i checked it was stated that mariah sold 3 million copies worldwide(not in the US)....
