Why Jesus is better than Santa Claus
Santa lives at the North Pole ...
JESUS is everywhere.
Santa rides in a sleigh ...
JESUS rides on the wind and walks on the water.
Santa comes but once a year ...
JESUS is an ever present help.
Santa fills your stockings with goodies ...
JESUS supplies all your needs.
Santa comes down your chimney uninvited ...
JESUS stands at your door and knocks, and then enters your heart when invited.
You have to wait in line to see Santa ...
JESUS is as close as the mention of His name.
Santa lets you sit on his lap ...
JESUS lets you rest in His arms.
Santa doesn't know your name, all he can say is
"Hi little boy or girl, what's your name?" ...
JESUS knew our name before we were born.
Not only does He know our name,
He knows our address too.
He knows our history and future and
He even knows how many hairs are on our heads.
Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly ...
JESUS has a heart full of love
All Santa can offer is ** ** ** ...
JESUS offers health, help and hope.
Santa says "You better not cry" ...
JESUS says "Cast all your cares on me for I care for you."
Santa's little helpers make toys ...
JESUS makes new life, mends wounded hearts, repairs
broken homes and builds mansions.
Santa may make you chuckle but ...
JESUS gives you joy that is your strength.
While Santa puts gifts under your tree ...
JESUS became our gift and died on a tree.... The cross.
We need to put Christ back in CHRISTmas, Jesus is still the reason for the season.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Being a non-Christian, I don't celebrate Christmas. But I do agree with you, Gail. Christmas is not about the birth of Jesus anymore; it's about buying and getting presents. I do buy something for my nephew because he's six and because I know that Christmas is a big deal for kids.
I've attended Christmas Mass a few times. The program is truly a magnificent pageant. I've enjoyed it.
This year is especially hard. It is the first holiday season without my daughter. I would be heading out to LA, or she would be coming here right about now. I miss her terribly. May I ask that you all keep me in your thoughts and prayers now? I would really appreciate it.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah and a joyuous Kwaza to everyone!

Double, you're in my prayers everyday. I pray some day you're able to have a healed heart and go on with life knowing one day you'll meet her again and be happy together forever.
I agree, Christmas Mass is an awesome service. I used to go when I was younger. Now, I try to catch some of it on TV with my Mother only since Daddy passed away. I know the feeling of loss although I have no clue how bad it hurts to lose a child. My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to you in this so difficult season to face the empty places in our hearts. I feel when we share each other's losses that makes it a little easier knowing someone feels the love for us that we are missing one in our hearts. But God promised us if we only believe on Him we will meet again one day, even you and I, in Heaven. That quite honestly is what I live for here from day to day in this sin cursed and troubled world. I know better times are awaiting me and will always be happy forevermore there on the other side. I pray your heart can be opened again soon to that love and promise through Jesus Christ, :)

It's commercialized only because everyone wants to leave Christ out of Christmas figuratively and literally.

That's really sad. They both exist in my heart. That's why I can still be a kid at Christmas time even at my age. :blueeek:

Gosh, how can I explain myself??? Hmmm.......I realize physically older kids and adults know that there is no red-suited man coming down the chimney bearing toys. But the love of Jesus gives us the option to have joy in our hearts big enough to understand the Santa Clause idea is real because of His ultimate gift to us. That puts the happiness and spirit of the season in our heart so the magic of Chistmas can be felt all over every year on our Savior's birth. The magical quality of giving, the reverence of the season, the dawn of rebirth that His birth offers us is enough to make my heart be in great joy at this time of year. And of course, as Chad's family says in celebration of the day.....
Happy Birthday Jesus (http://www.alighthouse.com/bjesus.htm)
A house so quiet, so humble,
A Child beside her bed,
Her hands clasped tightly ... time to pray,
So she bowed her little head.
Happy Birthday, Jesus!
Daddy said that you were near,
And that you had a birthday
This time every year.
He told me how you listen to
Every word we say,
And that you hear us call,
In the night ... or in the day.
He explained how bad they hurt you
And made you suffer so,
But said you let them do it,
For girls like me ... I know.
He told me about the manger they put you in,
I'd let you have my blanket
If I was there ...
Back then.
He said that you were watching
Everything we do ...
Him, Mommy, Granny,
And our new baby, too.
I like what daddy told me
Of how you healed the lame,
And that you don't have to have any wealth
Or fame.
He told me you were so awfully good,
And then he made me cry ...
He said they nailed you to a cross,
They wanted you to die.
And then he made me happy when he said
You came back again;
Daddy said Christmas is what we celebrate
Because on that day you were born.
So I hope I'm not too late
To wish you a Happy Birthday, Dear Jesus.
Wishing you a joyful Christmas and a future
bright with promise as we celebrate the Birth of our
Lord Jesus and look forward to His coming again
in all His glory!

I especially like this one: Santa says "You better not cry" ...
JESUS says "Cast all your cares on me for I care for you."
I always thought like "You better not shout.." song was more like a threat to kids you know? :nc:

Hey! Santa is my friiiiiend.
lol, once when I was a little kid I felt bad because I'd been really really bad (I probably wasn't, but I always thought I was and I was also sure I was going to hell) so I prayed to Santa. I actually closed my eyes and was all like, "Dear Santa, I'm so sorry, please forgive me. I try to be good!" Then I realized that I'd just prayed to Santa instead of God which was like idol worship and then I really freaked out. I was so sure I was going to go to hell so I prayed to God to forgive me and that I didn't mean it.
Wow...I'm such a freak. *grin*

You know Bekah? Sometimes kids really do get confused about the two. That's when it's time to come clean and be honest with them and explain the difference. I guess that's kinda the indication that it's time to tell all for the parents. Even though we want yall to stay young longer you have to grow up. And that is hard on parents until we realize our little ones are no longer the babies, but the young men and ladies that we eventually want them to grow into.
Anyway I'm glad you figured out the difference and still have Santa in your heart too. :)

yeah, Gail, I'm sure if my parents knew they would have told me...but I didn't tell my mom until like, last year. heh
lol, I'm not actually blonde any more, Patty. My hair is more of a lightish brownish color with some blonde hilights (esp if I'm in the sun a lot) and even some auburnish ones in the right light.
I wonder what Santa will bring me this year? Hmmm...:D I've been pretty good and I didn't pray to him. :P

Thank you Gail (I may call you Gail, mayn't I?), that's really beautiful, and so was what you said about all of us meeting again in Heaven. It's wonderful that after all the years of doubt and despair, I now know that it's all true, thank the Lord.
I do think that sometimes Santa distracts children from Jesus, and maybe some people stop believing in Jesus because they think that if their parents can lie to them about Santa, then they've probably lied to them about Jesus too.
If Lauren and I ever manage to have children, I hope we'll tell them about St. Nicholas, who I think lived in the 4th century in Eastern Europe (must do some research so I'm totally clear on the details), rather than go through all the tacky pretending thing. We'd still give presents to each other, and have the spirit of Santa in our hearts, but we'd be honest about it and give to charity too, as well as each other. That's how I envisage it anyway.

Yes, of course, most people call me Gail. It's only true. If only we believe, any one of us can be beside the other in Heaven one day, no matter what walk of life we come from or what we've done in our lifetime. It only takes believing. We will all be as brothers and sisters in Heaven.
I really love the story I heard recently from my new bosses wife. She's from Sweden and told of her part of the country's way of celebrating Christmas. There are days set aside for Jesus and there are days set aside for Santa, or what he represents as in gifts from days of old. They start in mid December and end in mid January. These are the days belonging to Jesus when the kings visited Him as a toddler. Many people don't realize that the three kings, or many kings as the case may be, went to see the baby well after he was born. It wasn't all accomplished that one blessed night. I wish I could remember all she told us, but it was one of the best Christmas stories I've ever been told. She had me in tears telling of her childhood and how they put Jesus in their hearts all the way through and it was totally because of the love of giving even when the European Santa had his day too for the children in stories handed down from generation to generation. She's looking forward to teaching her new baby boy all the old customs even if she is in America now. She's a sweetheart anyway, but she brought a Christmas back to me of my childhood as well. I was really touched by her memories.

You know, I really don't think that's true. I think the opposite is true. If kids aren't allowed the chance to believe in things like Santa Claus, it could be more difficult for them to understand the concept of God. I've never met anyone who stopped believing in God because they believed in Santa Claus. I seriously think kids are bright enough to understand the difference. I never was all, "what!? you've been...LYING TO ME!?!?!" I was just like, oh ok. Bummer. But it never made me doubt God.
*shrugs* That's just my opinion on the matter. Santa is fun. :D

Thanks Gail! *hug* Sometimes the truth is just too wonderful for me to take in, and I need to see it written down really simply and concisely, and a lot of your posts give me that little confirmation that I need sometimes.
The Swedish way of celebrating Christmas sounds really cool, I wish there was even a small amount of consideration given to Jesus at Christmas in the UK, it seems to be all about making money and eating too much these days.
Bekah, I suppose I'm just one of those people who can't get their head round the lying thing. It's probably because I have Asperger's syndrome. Although my loss of faith (when I was about 12) might have had more to do with my circumstances at the time, mental abuse at home and bullying at school, which the teachers would join in with occasionally, and I think that destroyed my sense that justice and goodness would prevail. I always felt that it was my fault. I hated myself and everybody else, no wonder I felt that humanity was worthless and I didn't believe in God.
So maybe it wasn't just the lying thing, it could have been a deeper cynicism that crept into my life at the time. I shouldn't blame Santa, he's OK really.

Maybe it's because of all the commercialism in your area about Santa and nothing much showing Jesus is the reason for Christmas to begin with. If you're not taught the two in combination with the lightheartedness of Santa and the fantasy of him coming down the chimney with gifts, then I can see why now with your revelation of Christ that Santa would mean a disturbance to you. You see, with Bekah and I; we both were taught all our life, well her short life  compared to mine, that Jesus came first and Santa was a little added pleasure on Christmas. But one time I read a story on an inspitational Christmas card how maybe it all could be tied in together. But the meaning of it was that gifts come into being because everyone offered Christ the most precious gifts for giving His ultimate gift and sacrifice to us to live forever. So we give now out of our love for others. Jesus always wants us to love everyone as if they were our sister or brother because in Christ we all are, in fact, just that.

I think I was taught equally about Jesus and Santa (at school, my parents didn't bother too much with either), but I think Jesus isn't mentioned much these days, because of "political correctness". I've had so much criticism from people for talking about God, which I just can't help because I'm so glad for what I experienced and I want to share it with everyone I know. It's like announcing you've become a serial killer.
To be fair, most of these people are young and probably just rebellious, but I don't see the UK as a Christian country anymore. The typical attitude is that people believe there's something out there, but they don't know what they mean by that, and anyway, they've never really thought much about it.
People giving gifts at Christmas seems to be more out of custom or politeness than love. It's seen as a chore. I don't know if it's become like that in the US too. We like to see ourselves as a less commercialised country than the US, but we're also certainly far less religious. Or at least, we don't talk about it if we are. I don't think many people see the connection between gifts from Santa and the gift of eternal life that Jesus gave to us.
I've always loved the people around me as brothers and sisters, even when I was at my lowest ebb and I didn't believe. I love people so much, and I wish I could hug everyone I meet without the fear of them going "Arrrrrrgh, get off me you lunatic". The famous British reserve! I love the thought of being part of a loving family because my own family started out dysfunctional and ended up disintegrated.
