2 muchMUS!C Review Of Willa's: "A Toast To Men"
Willa Ford/ A Toast To Men/ Lava ****
Regardless of whether or not you like Willa Ford’s music, she knows how to catch your attention. Though you may not recognize her face, Ford has been turning heads with her lyrics since her debut album in 2001 with recognizable singles such as “I Wanna Be Bad” and “Tired”. While Willa’s talent may be questionable as to whether she is just another pop princess or has some actual tangible talent, it’s pretty clear that she knows how to make her mark regardless of whether or not she can sing. With her latest single “A Toast to Men” off her up and coming CD she will undoubtedly raise more than a few eyebrows. The controversial single’s hook Here’s to the men we love to love, Here’s to the men in love with us, Here’s to the men who lust for us- F#ck The Men- Let’s drink to us does more than turn a few heads, it reels our hole bodies around.
Not only are Willa Fords catchy lyrics the source of attention on this single but the new sound Ford seems to have adapted that will have you wishing you could get the tune out of your head! Willa’s new sound seems to incorporate a variety of sounds ranging from rock to pop to electronic and even a bit of urban influence revealed by new comer May’s rap efforts on the single. Where singles are concerned Willa seems to lean towards the more provocative and catchy hits over ones that may showcase her talent- leaving her with less than the credibility she may deserve. If Ford does have the talent and ability its not shown on this single. With little more than a few provocative words she does little singing and gives us lots of room to ponder what the rest of the album will be like. As for this single the song not only seems to lack a showcase of the artists’ talent but it says very little for what’s to come on Ford’s up and coming release. Whether or not Willa Ford has the talent, we may never know, but this single certainly shows no sign of anything other than a brilliant marketer who knows what catches the public’s attention.
