And mid-February, I get to venture to Ft. Rucker, Alabama for work and spend a day on base.

It's cool because I actually get military clearance and all that jazz.

This base is a "mecca for Army Aviators". Heck yeah! Maybe I can find a cute chopper pilot. ;)

But for serious, I respect the men and women of our armed forces and while I wouldn't mind dating a military man (just something about them), I am looking forward to seeing what life is like on base and thanking them all for protecting our country and way of life.

That's cool. It should be interesting for you. I've lived on military bases before because my Dad was in the military. It was never really that different than living anywhere else. But, now because of the heightened security its definitely been different. have fun!!

Was your dad in the Army?

I have ties with the Army because my grandfather was in the Army. My dad went to military school and really wanted to go into the Army, but he had something wrong with his kidneys and they wouldn't let him in. Although they tried everything to get around it, because he was already trained and they really wanted him.

So, while I respect all of the military personnel, the Army holds a special place in my heart.

I had a very good friend who's dad was retired from the Army and worked at the Pentagon. I got to go there with her several times and we went to the PX and all that. But I've never actually been on a base. So it will be interesting.

My Dad was in the Navy. So, just like you, the Navy definitely has a special place in my heart. I actually am kind of glad that my Dad was in the Navy because I got to live in several different places and it was just really interesting. I even got to live in Puerto Rico for a year, which was definitely an experience that I never would have had otherwise.

My family still goes to the base every now and then to go shopping because they tend to sell things cheaper. My Dad truly enjoyed the Navy, but he was forced to retire when he was around 38 because of his health. But, I can tell that he misses it a lot.

Getting to live in different places and traveling the world is one of the things that I always was fascinated by. And still am, I guess. LOL! That's why sometimes I wish my dad had been able to get into the Army, because it would have been kinda cool to be an "Army Brat". Hard in one aspect, because when you are in school, you make friends and then have to move again and again. But how cool is to live all over and meet all sorts of different people?

Yeah, definately going on base to the PX and getting groceries and stuff is much cheaper. Like I said, I went with my friend a few times and it was amazing how much of a difference it really was. But they deserve discounts for anything, as far as I'm concerned. The discounts and stuff will never repay for the sacrifices they have all made in one way or another.

It's hard in the aspect of making friends and then having to leave and make new friends all over again. But, surprisingly, I have kept in touch with some of my friends through writing letters and now through email.

I now live in Pennsylvania and whenever I talk to new people, its surprising how many of them say that they have never even left the state before. I realize, now, how much of a privilege I've had because of the fact that my Dad was in the Navy. Of course, when you're younger you don't see it that way. The only thing you see is that you have to leave everyone all over again.

That's really cool that you still keep in touch with people. I know that is hard. Heck, I moved from VA to FL and there are only a handful of people I even talk to or hear from anymore.

So, I was investigating Army Aviation - I figure I should learn a little bit about it so that I can have a conversation with these people when I go. Anyway, there was a banner for militarysingles.com. I'm thinking that I may check it out. I'm so not the online dating/dating service type, but I'm not getting any younger here! LMFAO!
