...it was written by men. Thoughts, anyone?

Leviticus 15
19 And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even.

20 And every thing that she lieth upon in her separation shall be unclean: every thing also that she sitteth upon shall be unclean.

21 And whosoever toucheth her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

22 And whosoever toucheth any thing that she sat upon shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

23 And if it be on her bed, or on any thing whereon she sitteth, when he toucheth it, he shall be unclean until the even.

24 And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean.

Well we all know Leviticus was written by a man; all the books of the Bible were.

And that was a long time ago so the laws don't hold true today, but I fully support people not touching me when I'm having my period. :p

I'm aware of that. I wasn't attempting to point out something that nobody is aware of.

And that was a long time ago so the laws don't hold true today...

Why? I'd like to know how these things get decided, and by who.

FYI, plenty of Orthodox Jews still follow the laws of family purity, as these regulations are called.

Great, we all agree.

Because according to the Bible, after Jesus died we were no longer held to the old law. I dunno exactly where it is and at this particular moment I don't really care. I didn't mean to start an argument or anything remotely like one. Either I'm just in a pissy mood cuz I don't feel good or that's the way this is going. I really don't know or care either way though, so I'm dropping it.

Oh.

I didn't mean to start an argument or anything remotely like one.

I didn't know you had, to be honest. I'm in no place to argue at the moment, since I really don't know who changes what and why. It's something I've heard a few times ('it no longer applies' type of stuff) and I was curious.

I'm not exactly sure what it is that you're bothered by, but ok, it's dropped.

smackers - I'm sorry. I got up this morning and re-read it all. I was feeling really crappy last night so I really shouldn't have responded to anything because the slightest little things will piss me off for no reason. Not your fault, I apologize for being so snappish.
