*ahem* and why?

Probably Paul or George, but I haven't heard enough songs from the other two as solo artists yet.

Because he has some amazing songs?.. :p Sometimes, there just doesn't have to be a why.

*sighs* Impossible, just simply impossible.
Change of topic! I just feel the need to share this with you as it is what I was thinking about when I woke up and was lying in bed wishing I was still sleeping.
So anyway, I was thinking about why I like the Beatles so much. I remember when I decided they were my favorite band; I was 4 and I told my parents that the Beatles were my favorite band and always were going to be. They laughed at me and told me I'd probably find a group I liked better when I was older. I shook my head and told them that would never happen, it's the Beatles now and forever. So then I was thinking, was I just a really smart 4 year old or was there something more to this than just the music? Then I thought about how my dad would let my bros and sis' and me pick records to play and almost every time someone would pick Yellow Submarine and Ringo's Goodnight Vienna cuz we liked to dance and sing to the songs, Yellow Submarine and the No No song. Then I also was thinking about how my dad used to quiz us on who was singing. He'd put on a Beatles album and then go, "bekah! Who's singing?!" for each different song. And I'd be like, "Uuuummm...it's GEORGE!" and I spent a lot of time figuring out whose voice was whose so I'd get it right when he asked me. We also used to watch that Beatles show in the mornings. You know, where they weren't really the Beatles, they were cartoons but then they'd play Beatles songs and show clips from real Beatles footage.
Therefore, I think the Beatles are my favorite band because a) their music rocks and b) they hold an important part in my happy childhood.
Thank you.

Well, as much as I love the Beatles, they aren't even in my top three bands :blueeek:.
Part of my love for the band is I think just how many songs of there's are ingrained in us before we even know who the Beatles are. "Ob-la-de, Ob-la-da" and "Yellow Submarine" I associate with my early camp years. "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "For No One" we we sang in middle school chorus. One of the songs I always seem to remember from the old days of Sesame Street is "Letter B" a parody of "Let it Be."
Then again, knowing Sean Lennon from a fairly young age didn't hurt matters much, either. :p
But my favorite band overall is the Beach Boys, and it's tought to really understand one without the other.

WHAT?!?!? They're not even in your top three!??! Dave, I'm sorely dissapointed in you! :(
And...the Beach Boys? NO! NOOOOOOOOO!!! I mean they're good yeah, and were important but...they're so...dorky! "Be True to Your School"? "Take Good Care of Your Feet" (I dunno if that's even the title)? I think Pet Sounds is the only album I like enough to listen too...and I do like their "surfer" songs, but other than that, just ugh. ;)
You knew Sean Lennon?

Take Good Care of Your Feet, yeah, they were on drugs. I have to admit, I really like both Surf's Up and Sunflower, great albums.
It's true about Sean Lennon, I saw the picture.

They are in the top five! Can't you find it in your heart to look past that blemmish and still love me. :p
I have nothing to say about "Take Good Care of Your Feet." "A Day in the Life of a Tree," also off Surf's Up is also as freaky. But the title track is considered a classic, and "Feel Flows" was used in the movie "Almost Famous." Both "Disney Girls" and "Long Promised Road" are big songs to Beach Boys fans.
Pet Sounds was the inspiration for Sgt. Peppers, and McCartney to this day calls PS one of his favorite albums ever. Smiley Smile is when commercialism and in-fighting destroyed what could have been the pinacle over Pepper's.
There early stuff is cheap, but let's be honest, so was the Beatles stuff. Poppy, 2-minute songs teens could relate to. As Brian broke away from his producer (dad...), he got creative just as the Beatles did. "Don't Worry Baby," and "In My Room" were the early notable songs.

*sighs* I suppose it is a minor flaw in comparison to some things. I'll let it slide ;)
Well I did say I liked Pet Sounds, and true, their newer stuff as opposed to the old stuff is much better. I quite enjoy "Don't Worry Baby" and "In My Room"... But the old stuff makes me gag, whereas I quite enjoy the older Beatles songs. Sure they're not as deep, but they're...I don't know, they still seem to have more substance and are better songs than the early Beach Boys ones.
and I love Back in the USSR. *cackles* :p

I understand Sean's a big Beach Boys fan? Oh and "Yellow Submarine" was the first Beatles song I heard, and turned me on to them.

Sean for all I can tell is more of a Brian Wilson fan than a Beach Boys fan, and that is certainly understandable. I don't think when I really knew him that either of us had discovered the Beach Boys.
I like just about all the Beach Boys, although I can do without the Light Album.

well we talked about the Beach Boys in my History of Rock and Roll class last night and I feel slightly more respect for them.
But that's proably cuz he only played the songs of theirs that I liked. :p
So when did you know Sean and why did he talk to you? :p

We were bunkmates in camp and went to school together.
The last time I saw him ironicly was at a Brian Wilson concert. We met by accident, but he rememebred me... It's funny though: Nobody recognized him until after they saw me go up to him... But they left him alone still.
What songs did they play in your class?

well, he talked about other songs too, and he can't play too many since the class only meets once a week for two hours. Of course then I went home and my dad and I chilled to several Beach Boy's songs; mostly ones that were supposed to be on Smile.
Did you know that Brian Wilson is going to be performing Smile in a series of concerts in England this month?

Oh, believe me, I know... The trip I'm going on in a couple of weeks to The Netherlands (or as the Beach Boys would say, Holland), was in the very early stages going to be a trip to see Brian do Smile in Amsterdam in mid-March... But that was sold out before I even knew about it... In Ocotber! :blueeek:! Hopefully he brings it state-side too.

My friend Ian is a big Beach Boys fan, and we had a lot of interesting conversation about it today. He tends to like a lot of their earlier stuff better, while I'm the complete opposite - but I'm the same way about the Beatles too.
But to my point, a year ago I didn't know a damn soul who would consider the Beach Boys their favorite band, and now I know about 5. I've also been hearing on MTV a lot lately that certain band's are often influenced by them - bands you'd never think about like Blink 182 and stuff.

I "found" the Beach Boys in 9th grade, after seeing them live after a Yankee game (they used to sometimes play a concert at the stadium after the 4th of July game). The I bought Endless Summer and soon after [/u]Still Cruisin'[/u] and then the whole collection of Capitol's 2-fer CDs. And that was that...
I didn't meet too many people in college who cared for them, but when I got to my first professional station,I found half the production/air-talent absolutely love Brian and the band.
It'f kinda cool though: One of my friends ofrom high school and one from college (and then that station) in later years became fans. It's cool because both are in music professions, one is a concert clarinetist and the other is still in radio. I guess they're a band nobody pays attention to until somebody introduces the inner sanctum to others.

I'm glad you introducted me to them. Not as if I hadn't heard a lot of their early stuff anyway, but I had no idea that their later stuff is the way it is. Great music.

hmmm I htink Id have to say Paul. But its not a complete answer you know? Like, I love listening to Paul when Im in a good mood and his songs carry a lot of energy. Then when Im mad at something or someone Lennon is my fave for sure. Then when somehow I need to reflect about somehting George is my best friend. And when Im just fool Ringo is there with me. I htink most of the time Im just in a good mood wanting Pauls energy to sing along. So I guess thats why I gave this answer :)
