From the new J-14

1 ] What did you hope to accomplish with your new album, Schizophrenic?

I just want people to like it. I think even the joke-y songs that are about things people talk about every day -- even those songs are well thought out. I want people to listen to it and be impressed. Even lyrically, I want them to be like, "Wow, he paints a really nice picture -- even down to the simplest thing." Even if it's a club song, I like to think I have an interesting take on it.

[ 2 ] Which track on the CD means the most to you?

I wrote the song "Dear Goodbye" about a goodbye letter in a breakup. It was a very emotional song for me because one of the guitar players I wrote it with was such a great guy, and he actually passed away before I could play him the final song. So, then I really took it to heart. It was a coincidence that the song was called "Dear Goodbye," and he ended up passing away two days before the song was done. So, it turned into a lot more.

[ 3 ] Is the song "She Got Me" really about falling in love with an alien?

Yeah, I'm a sci-fi nut, so I wrote a song about what it would be like to fall in love with an alien. She's pretty cool -- she is a pretty sexy alien. It's like... what's your favorite color? We can make that alien that color if you want [laughs]. Is your favorite color blue? You can fall in love with a blue alien [laughs again]. Who knows?

[ 4 ] How much do you deal with writers' block?

Punch myself in the head! I hate it! Believe me, I've had a lot of it.

[ 5 ] Is it something that goes away with time for you?

Sometimes it just goes away with time, and sometimes you just write a stupid song to get it out and hope that something good comes after it. I wrote the song "One Night Stand" about the movie The Ladies Man, because I was stuck. I couldn't think of anything, and I was in such a stupid mood and I was like, "You know what? That's it. I'm going to write a song about the stupid Ladies Man." So just for fun, we wrote the song. When I finished it, I was like, "It's out of my system. That was the stupidest thing I've ever done." But then, we played it for people and they were wlike, "It's so much fun!" And you're like, "Yeah, it's fun, but it's not a real song." And they're like, "No, dude, it's awesome!" It is what it is. Sometimes, you just needed to channel that energy.

[ 6 ] What's changed since the early days? Are you free to try things now that you couldn't before?

I'm not as shy to explore my sexuality. I've written a couple of songs with some sexual references in them. I date, and I'm intimate. I think I've grown more comfortable in my skin to yell it out over a microphone. Before I'd write a lot about love songs (and I still do), but now I've become more free with myself, and I have more fun expressing myself.

[ 7 ] I know sometimes you write in metaphors...

In my mind, there's a time and place for everything. When you want to write something beautiful, write a meaphor. I try to make up things and paint something pretty.

Is there a metaphor for you?

Hell no, I'm just a mess.

[ 8 ] For women?

Help! [He busts out with the Beatles' song] Help, I need somebody / Help, not just anybody / Help...

[ 9 ] At this point in life, what are you looking for in a relationship?

Every artist needs his muse, and as much as I want to deny that -- because it sounds like I'm planning it -- at the end of the day, it's the truth. When you fall in love, that's your muse. You don't want it to be a conscious thing, but it is. I just want someone to inspire me.

[ 10 ] What new perspective have you gotten from your past relationships?

I know what it's like to be in love. It's outstanding and I value it. People who have never really been in love -- they want to be in love so bad, but they don't know what it means. I know what it means.

[ 11 ] Describe your fave moment with a girl.

Every time you're with somebody you want to be with, it's a good thing. It doesn't matter where it is. It doesn't matter what you're doing as long as you're with that person.

[ 12 ] What's the difference between sexy and skanky?

[He laughs like the Joker from Batman] Internet porn and strippers are skanky. Sexy is confident and graceful.

[ 13 ] What's your biggest turn-on and turn-off?

I can't stand anybody needy and pushy. Turn-ons... there are a million things. Anything positive -- let's just put it that way.

[ 14 ] Do you think that you're ready for marriage and kids?

I don't know. That's what everybody wants eventually, right? They want to be satisfied. It's always on the burner, but not the front-burner right now.

If that was during the "shy" period, I think what he does now may send some of us into cardiac arrest:blueeek:

LMAO!!

Okay, as long as I get to explore JC's sexuality, I dun care who the hell's exploring mine.

That sounded wrong.

Um.

Wait...I'll figure this out...

Right, so...yeah. Um.

Oh GAWD, why do I try to think? I should stick to stuff I know how to do. Like...um. I know this one, I know it...

OH! I can crochet:D WOOO!

JC exploring my sexuality, yes, that would indeed RULE, but I'd be fine if he just wanted to lay back and me expl...ore...his...okay, I'm ending this, because I dunno what the hell I mean and I'm just sounding like a ho.

Dude. JC was just on one of those 'Oh!' Oxygen commercials...
