We're looking to buy a new computer... but can't figure out what what's what.
The adds in the paper are so confusing. there's so much fine print...
How much should i expect to pay for a basic computer & all the stuff that goes in it. I want speed & enough room to download games.
or should i just get a new hard-drive with more power...
Thanx everyone:)

cd burning?
u obviously want a large hard drive.
do u want the games to run fast and look nice?
etc. etc. tell me what ur going to use ur computer for the most.

computers in my family are just for entertainment purposes... which is why we don't wanna invest 5000$ into one.
they like casino-style games, which i figure needs a lot of power. My sister also spends a lot of time at the online games.
right now what we don't have is a CD-burner... which i wanna get. :)
My dad wanted to get auto-cad but i think he'd need a computer just for that cuz that'S a big program... (i'd think)
I hardly know anything about computers... what i know i've learned by trial & error.
I've only had a computer for 2 years so i still have plenty to learn...
Thanx for your help:D

alrite well if ur dad wants to use auto-cad its not gonna really make that big a difference. it just means that ur gonna need a decent video card which ur going to need anyway if u wanna watch videos and play games online. now are u looking for a full package deal? (monitor, speakers, computer, mouse, keyboard.. etc, etc.) or are u looking for just the computer. i mean i need details here :P do u want a webcam? do u want a digital camera port? do u want a scanner or a printer? zip drive? dvd player/burner? u kno try to give me every little thing u can think of that ur gonna need this computer for.

cause right now i'm looking at something like these:

these are pretty much what ur looking for a and few extra goodies that i thought u might need. i can look for some more specific stuff once u give me a better description.
mind u most of these are JUST the computer meaning, no monitor, no keyboard, no mouse, just that lil box that sits under ur desk.

if ur looking for the whole package this is probably one of the best deals i've seen.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=51136&item=4130859905&rd=1
it's got pretty much everything u need except a monitor.
oh yeah and another thing, tell me ur price range. that would make things a lot easier too.

Thanks for lookig up all that stuff... i really appreciate it.:)
last night LD was stupid...when i clicked my answer to you here it said i wasn't logged-in:rolleyes:
So i've got to start over....
I think all i probably really need is a new "computer".
all i'm missing is the burner... (i don't want a web-cam, and no real need for a mic...)
the digetal-cam-port might be useful in the future... but i don't have one of those cams yet...
we won't be watching videos on the computer so i don't think i need that feature.
what'S a zip-drive?
I don't really wanna put more than 800$(us) on this thing since in a couple years it'll have to be updated again...
Come to think of it... would reformating the one i have now solve some of the problems i have with it? (it's running slow)

what'S a zip-drive?
don't bother... I have one... the disks are WAY too costly...
there's also been some pretty high profile failure issues w/ Iomega, I've personally lost a disk just cuz it went "bad"..
CD-RW is currently THE cheapest external method of storage.. and about EVERY computer can read them as well..
hard drives are still generally the cheapest per Gigabyte I believe (you can use external hard drive backups if you're interested in that)

reformatting ur computer will make ur computer run at the speed it ran before u put all the junk on it.. but with the speed of technology assuming ur comp is about 3-5 years old u probably want to update considering technology doubles its speed and power every 18 months and i think that statistic is becoming outdated and it's updating faster now but i could be wrong. um if ur looking to spend under 800 bux go with the links i gave u there all for under like 400 bux. those should do u just fine! in fact it should even include the things u dun want yet but may want later w/o making it a bitch to install. if u need anymore help or want some more help lookin up for this stuff u can email me at schmidty@blazemail.com if i don't answer on here anytime soon it's cause i dun have time to check out forums all the time. so good luck :P
