“In The Zone” drops to #39 in ranking but sees a bit of rise in units sold with 29,346 untis for a total SoundScan of 2,525,752. I think ‘Everytime” will have a positive impact, not as great as with “Toxic” but better than any third single since “Crazy”.
After digging around a bit regarding the cancellation of the Reisa, Germany concert for “technical reasons” this is what I think happened. The “technical difficulty” was that the local venue promoter had reneged on the promised guarantee. With concerts, the promoter is often asked to guarantee an artist minimum even if the concert gross does not cover it. I think the local venue promoter gambled that they could recoup the guarantee from their smaller, less wealthy market and found out they could not. So they either had to cover the guarantee out of their own pocket or ask that the concert be called off.
As proved by the Portland show where Britney played before two-thirds capacity the key is the money the crowd generates, not the size of the crowd. If the promoter will not pay the guarantee then the show will not go on.
Some other thoughts:
Whenever another music act mentions Britney, in particular to diss her, the first thing I check to see is if that act has any new material coming out. Almost invariably, when such a comment is made you have the act trying to generate publicity for their new product. You have seen it with boy bands like Natural in the past and now with Busted. You see Natasha Bedingfield, out of the blue, comment on Britney’s lascivious nature right before her new single drops.
And Avril! She starts of with her very first magazine cover story (in Canada’s “Chart Attack”) with the cover healine reading “Avril Hates Britney Spears”. Then, after she has finished moving her product, nary a negative word from Avril about Britney. But now! Avril has new product to sell so what do we hear but her diss “that ‘ho” Britney in an interview with the BBC. How predictable!
Of Justin was even more successful in tying new product to sell with Britney mentions and now he is quiet about it. But I will take good odds that more than a few Britney comments will appear when next he has product to promote.

Usher’s back on top with “Confessions” selling 267,128 units this week (3,132,798). Over three million already so I think we have are winner for best selling album of the year although Norah Jones might still out last him and Eminem is always a threat even if he will not be releasing until the Fall.
D12 drops a huge 64% with 196,795 units this week at #2 (741,958). Normally a big debut like they had will drop 50% to 60% so 64% is bad, especially since they have a hit song to prop up the album.
Prince’s “Musicology” at #3 sells 150,160 (513,784) with 60k of those coming packaged with the concert tickets.
Petey Pablo has the top debut of the week with117,497 (118,124) units at #4.
Diana Krall’s second week sees a modest decline of 33% with sales of 97,350 (242,136). Her #5 ranking and modest second week decline may have been buoyed by Mother’s Day shopping.
Hoobastank’s “The Reason” rests at #6 with 90,744 (915,595) units while Mario Winans’s “Hurt No More” 90,147 (437,710) drops to #7
Norah Jones at #8 with a sales gain of 63% to 90,037 (2,836,466) and Josh Groban at #9 with a sales gain of 83% to 78,836 (3,355,908) are clearly the two most popular acts for Mother’s Day.
NOW 15 rounds out the top 10 with 76,854 (1,229,399) units.
A special mention for #31 Loretta Lynn’s “Van Lear Rose” 34,510 (71,555) as best album released in 2004.

“Everytime” is Britney’s third Hot Shot Debut in a row and looks set to become her best performing ballad at radio. Not that her previous ballads had set the bar very high.
A new #1 with “Burn” but the same old Usher. Why buy his album when you know all the best songs on it are going to be way overplayed on the radio.
“In The Zone” drops to #39 in ranking but sees a bit of rise in units sold with 29,346 untis for a total SoundScan of 2,525,752. I think ‘Everytime” will have a positive impact, not as great as with “Toxic” but better than any third single since “Crazy”.
