DAVID BECKHAM gave England a Euro 2004 injury scare yesterday.
Becks winced in pain after hurting his right ankle for the second
time in two days while training with Real Madrid.
The England skipper picked up an injury on the eve of the last major
international tournament.
He was almost ruled out of the World Cup two years ago when he broke
his foot.
But Real doctor Juan Carlos Hernandez insisted: "There's no need to
worry.
"There is no way the injury would rule him out of Euro 2004 — it's
only a niggle.
"If he wasn't suspended on Sunday he would be clear to play in that."

London, May 19 (ANI):
British soccer captain David Beckham's former bodyguard, Brian
Tilley, 47, has been shot dead in Iraq.
According to The Sun, Tilley, an ex-Royal Marine, was hired by the
Real Madrid star after his wife Victoria and he were the target of a
kidnapping plot in 2002.
Brian had shared a friendly relationship with the Beckham family. He
was gunned down by rebels near Baghdad where he was believed to have
worked for an Egyptian firm on a communications project.
Brian, who had a long-term girlfriend Elaine Readenall, was all set
to fly home last week after spending five months in the city.
Unfortunately, he missed his flight and was waiting for another when
he was killed at a house in the Al-Dawrah district.
Brian's close friend Pete Oxley has described him as a real life
action man. "Despite his adventurous lifestyle he was always very
safe - his military training taught him to calculate every risk and
err on the side of survival," the report quoted Brian as saying.
Brian was an adopted son of his parents who are now dead. He was
brought up in Derby and also served with the special boat service.
Brian had been a part of the action in Northern Ireland, the
Falklands and The Gulf and was awarded the Queen's Gallantry Medal
for bravery in 1997, adds the report.
The gallant Brian was also a qualified paramedic, mountaineer and
diver. He had given valuable tips to the Beckhams' civilian
bodyguards on how to improve their close protection tactics

My name is Nicole and I heard of David Beckham (I'm from America). Here's this question, I don't know if it's true or not but: He's wearing #23. Did he pick #23 because his hero (MJ - the best bball player EVER!) wore it before him? I kinda read it somewhere.

here it goez; found an article:
Victoria Beckham has visited poor children in Peru to see how money
raised by the public is being spent, it has emerged.
The pop star wife of England soccer captain David Beckham spent time
with the youngsters in an impoverished community on the outskirts of
the capital Lima.
A spokeswoman for Sport Relief said the trip for three days last week
was for a documentary to be shown on BBC1 next month.
"She went to Peru to make a documentary to make the public aware of
where the money is being spent," she added.
The Sunday Mirror said she shared the families' lives from 6am to 6pm
last Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. She joined the families for their
meals and helped them wash their clothes, the newspaper said.
She learned how children scavenge through litter looking for things
to sell to support their families, it added.
And it quoted a friend as saying: "She lived the life of the
villagers. It was an incredible experience for her. She found it
amazingly moving."
well done, victoria!!!!

England's footballers will receive 24-hour armed protection
throughout their quest for Euro 2004 glory next month amid fears that
Islamic terrorists may try to attack those teams whose countries are
involved in Iraq.
An elite unit of the Portuguese police, who usually guard high-
profile political and foreign leaders, will look after England
captain David Beckham and his team-mates from the moment they arrive
in Lisbon on 7 June.
The 23-man squad will be surrounded by the tightest security
operation ever arranged for a group of British sportspeople abroad. A
detachment of both uniformed and plain-clothes officers from the
special intervention corps of Portugal's Public Service Police (PSP),
who are trained in close protection and anti-terrorism measures, will
flank them round the clock at matches, training sessions, media
appearances and relaxation periods at their hotel.

By Trevor Huggins
SANTA MARGHERITA DI PULA, Italy (Reuters) - England captain David
Beckham says he has nothing to prove to sceptics at Euro 2004 after
his first season at Real Madrid ended in disappointment.
Beckham, who made a bright start to his move to the Primera Liga from
Manchester United, has faced a growing number of critics over his
performances in Spain as Real finished the season without a trophy.
"I don't think I've got anything to prove to people," Beckham said on
Tuesday at a pre-tournament training camp in Sardinia.
"Since I moved to Real Madrid, from the first game onwards, I had to
prove to people in Spain that I could actually play football instead
of just selling shirts and I felt that I've done that."
"I'm disappointed not to have won anything at the end of the season.
But I'm into a major championship now and with the team we've got,
you never know what's going to happen."
Beckham said he had no plans to return to the premier league,
dismissing speculation in the media that a move to big-spending
Chelsea was imminent.
"Whatever rumours there were about me moving back to England were
never started by me," he said. "I was always happy at Real Madrid and
wanted to stay there and that's the way it's been in my mind.
"I've just had to clear it up for other people...I'm very happy at
the moment and looking forward to this championship."
DISAPPOINTING SEASON
Real's disappointing season led on Monday to the sacking of coach
Carlos Queiroz after only one season and his replacement by former
Spain boss Jose Antonio Camacho.
"It's always a disaster for a manager to only get one season but
clubs are different around Europe...and what the president says
always goes," Beckham said when asked about Queiroz, who had been
assistant manager at United.
Despite the problems at club level, Beckham is buoyant about
England's prospects at Euro 2004 in Portugal.
"There'll always be a sense of failure if we don't win the thing
because the expectations with the manager, the fans and everyone from
our country is very high. And rightly so.
"We've got a great bunch of players, a lot of talent in the
team...and we've got our own expectations. And they're as high as
anyone else's.
"One of my goals is to win something with England. If we can do that
this summer, then great. If not, I'll carry on trying."
As for his fitness, Beckham said he had a minor ankle knock but was a
lot more upbeat than before the 2002 World Cup, where he had not
fully recovered from a broken foot.
"I've not broken any bones so far before this competition," he
said. "Leading into the World Cup I felt 95 percent fit. But going
into this I'm fresh...I'm a lot more confident."
Beckham had an open mind on his position in Portugal, having played a
central midfield role for Real after a career on the right.
"I've enjoyed my time in the centre this season but whatever position
the manager puts me in I'll play there. If that's the position I've
always played for England in, then great."
England open their campaign in Group B on June 13 against champions
France before facing Switzerland and Croatia.

England captain David Beckham has hit out at the media over the
coverage of allegations about his private life.
He said he had contemplated refusing to talk to sections of the press
and singled out the Daily Mail, News of the World and Sky for
criticism.
"With two papers, the way I and my family have been treated is an
absolute disgrace," he said at an England training session in
Sardinia.
His comments come three weeks ahead of the Euro 2004 competition in
Portugal.
His wife Victoria and their two children are set to move to Spain to
be with the Real Madrid player, ahead of his second season with the
club.
The way the news side have treated me in the last few months has
been an absolute disgrace
David Beckham
It is the first time David Beckham has spoken about the allegations
publicly since they were published in April.
"The way the news side have treated me in the last few months has
been an absolute disgrace," he said
"They've tried to ruin my family.
"I've been called a bad father, a bad husband and my wife's been
called a bad mother
"Things always hurt that are said about my family. For people to call
my wife a bad mother is unbelievable.
"At the end of the day, I'm a nice person and loving husband and
father.
He said he had thought about not speaking to some media outlets but
said: "I realise as England captain I have an obligation to talk to
the fans and that's why I do it."
Sven's support
England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, who has also had his private life
scrutinised in the press, supported his team's captain in Sardinia on
Monday.
He said David Beckham was in a "very good" frame of mind.
Meanwhile the News of the World said it stood by its stories on
Beckham "100%".
And Sky said it had "accurately and fairly reported developments in
David Beckham's private life over the last few months".
Beckham's comments came days after he cast aside rumours he would
return to the English Premiership next season.
Instead, Victoria will continue her career from the family's base in
Spain and Brooklyn will enrol at a Spanish school.
