The world's largest soft drink maker is turning to a new 1.5-liter bottle to fizz up its products - and to give consumers a better grip on the Real Thing.
The slimmer plastic bottles started appearing on store shelves in the New York area last week - making the fat and familiar 2-liter bottle a bit harder to find.
"It's a bottle you can handle," said Harriet Tolve, a Coca-Cola spokeswoman.
I couldn't find an article or any photos on Coke's site.. but I took some (really bad)pictures...

Apparently, this is only in NYC and NJ so far... but I'm deeply upset. The regular price for these bottles in my supermarket is $1.29 .... the Pepsi bottles (still 2-liter) are $1.19 ..... the sale for price for Coke bottles (former 2 liters, now 1.5 liters) is $.99 .... it's the same price.... less product... i hate it. pray it doesnt come to your state or that this new packaging fails so they can revert to the normal way.
AND another thing... they way they justify it is horrible... "it's easier to pour for the customers" ... easier to pour MY EYE.
here's another article..

He (Brian E. Wynne, division vice president and general manager of Coca-Cola Bottling Company of New York) expects Smooth Serve to sell for 85 cents to $1.20 a bottle, while the 2-liter bottle sells for about $1 to $1.50 a bottle.
He said some customers find the 2-liter bottle, which will continue to be sold, too large to handle.
Yeah? Well it's the same price. And they've replaced all the 2-liters with the 1.5's here.
