So I've decided to find a legal music downloading service. Im gonna do my research, but if anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to share your opinions with me.
Any suggestions as to which would be the best legal music downloading service?
I dont mind paying per song or a monthly fee.

This one is free, but is it safe and legal?

Or, should I go with either Itunes or Napster? I would love an Ipod mini one of these days, so maybe I should go with Itunes?

I don't really download music for free anymore, at least not as much as I used to. But what about I-Pod or something like that. I think Sony has a lot of their popular artists web sites with the songs you can buy individually. I know Beyonce's site does. You can even but the music videos. I am not sure about services though.

the way i see it is.....if you go legal you might as well buy the cd.
if you go illegally.....you can download songs til you blue in the face and it won't cost you anything!
The second one sounds alot better to me!

Well, my sister likes a new country song, but she does not want the entire album, and if I sign up with Wal-Marts service she can have the single song for $0.88. Now, how many times have we paid $3-$5 for one song on a cd single, with maybe an extra song just for the fun of it or snippets? $0.88 sounds like a good deal these days after many years of paying high prices and if more people go online and buy single songs for $0.88-$0.99 or entire albums for $10 rather than paying extremely high prices, such as $18, just for a 10-12 song cd, then maybe cd albums as a whole will drop. Some companies have already dropped their cd prices. When I can buy a cd in the store for $10 I will start buying whole cds again, but until then, I would much rather sample songs, download the ones I like legally and burn them onto a cd and keep them on my computer for future reference. Also, I plan on buying an ipod mini one of these days and that is much better than a large bulky portable cd player.
And most importantly, I dont want a fine or jail time for illegally downloading a song. If the majority of "artists" cared about the music more than money we would not have these legal issues with p2p file sharing.

Actually the artists themselves don't really see much money at all from the CD sales, etc. They get the majority of their money from concerts and concert merchendise (and any eh...celebrity endorsements...) The money from CDs usually goes to the record companies and is used for paying all the employees from every step of production, packing, etc etc, producing new cds, marketing, and yes, indeed, profit for themselves. (Of course the Artists do see a percentage, but in reality they don't see that much $$ from the CDs themselves...)
On one hand, I agree that the extreme prices are awful and the record companies are charging eh...absorbitant prices, etc (to put it nicely). On the other, I think it's really bad that they get *nothing* from their efforts. So, I think the right answer here is the small prices they ask for song downloading individual songs.
To answer your question, though, I guess I prefer iTunes of the ones I've tried (I've tried several...Rhapsody was also good, but they charge a monthly fee regardless if you download anything or not and then additional charges per download--they do let you listen to the whole song before deciding whether to buy or not, though...the downside of iTunes--no monthly fee and reasonable per song charge--is that they only give you about a 30 second sample of the song to hear without purchasing.
And sorry about the preaching above there ;) lol. I get a bit worked up over this issue at times.

Not on topic, but BrokenHalo, is your name a NIN reference at all?

Nope. No NIN reference I'm afraid. Just a "Not-too-angelic" nickname...
