You never know which one she's gonna have. It's great!

Not. :| (long rant ahead)

She got mad at Melissa today because she (Melissa) had called her to ask her something about doing a return (Technically we're not allowed to do them, but there are some cases where we can), and she (my boss) told her it was her day off and to make the decision herself.

So then she calls back 30 minutes later and starts telling Melissa "I'm tired of everyone calling me on my days off, I never get a day off because everyone is always calling me and asking me questions" Ok, as a store manager, you have to be available all the time, whether or not you want to be. And hello about the days off.. me and Melissa tarely get our 2 days off a week because we're stuck working doubles and covering for other people so they can have a day off, but she always makes sure that she's got her 2 days off each week (I won't even begin to talk about her trying to take her vacation over labor day weekend).

And then, last week, there was a managers metting in NYC that she had to go to. So she took Sat & Sun as her 2 days off and then she was at the meeting from Mon-Wed and came back to work Thursday. Ok, as a manager of a store, if you were gone for 5 days, wouldn't you be calling a few times just to see how things were going and make sure everythings ok? Cause yeah.. she never called. Said she was always busy. Yeah. Right.

And the schedules. Oh my god. The woman can't make a schedule to save her life. I realize she doesn't get paid for working over 42hours, so for her to do doubles, shes not going to get paid for them, but dammit man. When I'm doing 3 9am-9:30pm shifts 3 days in a row, I'm gonna get bitchy. I don't care that I'm getting time and a half for anything over 40 hours.. I'm tired, and that's not fair. It comes with the territory of being a manager that your gonna have to work a few doubles here and there if you want to

She's the kind of manager that believes theyre only there to do paperwork. She worked a double yesterday. We got in 37 boxes of shipment the day before. Me & Melissa got through and prices 13 of them the day we got it, even though we were tired as all hell and didn't want to do it. She didn't so much as touch one of those boxes yesterday. So me and Melissa were stuck doing the rest of it today.

And she refuses to hire anyone who's in college because she doesn't want to work around their schedule. Yeah. The University is not even 5 minutes down the road.. and everyone at the college works in the mall. I don't see any of the other managers having a problem hiring them.

And her motto is.. "If you don't like it.. leave. I'll work a double everyday to keep the store open if I have to". Yeah. That's team unity! If one of your employees is having a problem with you, don't you think you should talk about it and see what's wrong? Honestly.

Oh dear.. this is really long, isn't it?? Sorry!!

Maf, she sounds awful! I've never been able to respect any manager who wouldn't do everything they asked their employees to do!

Hey girl! I'm sorry your manager is such a witch!
Where do you work??
Are you able to put in a complaint with higher powers about her behavior? Because not helping with shipmant, and making it so that she's out of the store for five days in a row and not giving a damn are not things that a company likes to have within their stores! Try and talking with higher powers or something to get her to put more effort in, or try and get a raise becuase it sounds like you're doing a lot of her work!!

As a supervisor, I have had to work several doubles, or during one of my regular days off, or cover a shift or two for someone if they take vacation. That's part of the job. And if she doesn't like THAT, then SHE can leave.

Tell her to pop on here and I'll be happy to discuss things with her. I'm feeling a little feisty this evening. And I'm sure I will be tomorrow. Or the next day.........

I work for L'Oreal. See, she came from the corporate office where all she did was paperwork. So, ok, I can maybe see how that'd be somewhat of an odd transition, but damn. I'm planning on calling our DM next week and havinga litle chat with her to discuss some of it.

And no one wants to work with her. Everytime we work together and I try to do something she tells me to not do that and to do something else. Yeah. She starts like, 30 different things and doesn't finish any of them, so the rest of us have to do it. And I hate putting new things up when she's not there, because it's guaranteed that she'll hate it and redo it. And then if we don't do it, she'll get pissy and ask us wy we couldn't do it

Why did they move her from the Corporate Office? Was it a demotion and so now she is just bitchy? Or maybe her incompetence there required her to move to a Store Manager position. Because I'm quite sure that one would start as a Store Manager and then move to Corporate. Not the other way around.

Well, the corporate office is in NYC (obviously), but she wanted to relocate to FL, and they were going to be opening this store here, so she decided to take the position so she could still be with the company (she's worked for them for almost 20 years). I know she took paycut, but it wasn't a big one.

Ah, that makes sense.

I guess working for a company for 20 years could make you bitter. Particularly with retail/customer service stuff. But if she can't deal with it or doesn't want the responsibility that comes with being a store manager, maybe she should consider retirement. That's what people come to Florida for, right? Except for me. I keep wishing.............

Heh. I wish I could get away with only working 45 hours a week. As a General Manager I am required to work a 45 hour schedule, of which I get paid for 42.5 (they figure I get breaks, yeah...right). I have only had 2 weeks total since I became a manager where I actually got 2 days off. And they weren't consecutive. And even on my one day off that I usually get, I am in the store for one thing or another because it needs to get done. And as for the phone calls, that goes with the territory. As a manager I am also required to be available 24/7 no matter what. If that means I am in a theater watching a movie and my cell phone rings...I have to answer it. Which means, yes, I get to get up and leave the movie to see what they need me for. These are part of the responsibilities you take on as a manager. Welcome to life!

Sorry, Maf, didn't mean to step all over your rant session.

*end rant*
