(Trenton-AP) -- Baseball fans can sue if they're hit by foul balls in the concession areas of New Jersey's minor league parks.

An appeals court says a Newark man who was hit in the face while buying a beer at Newark's Riverfront Stadium can sue the Newark Bears and the owners of the food service company.

The panel ruled that spectators assume some risk of foul balls flying into the stands. However, the judges said fans in concession areas have greater protection because they can "let down their guard.''

An attorney for the food service company may appeal yesterday's ruling.

I guess NJ is new to the world of minor league baseball, where kids actually camp out in concession areas sometimes to catch foul balls.

On the good side, this hopefully gets noticed as a bad thing by the Yanks who at times are rumored to be looking to move to NJ.

I don't agree with that! Too many people are sue happy!! That risk is at all ball games, even the little league field next to my house!

Speaking of games......

Dave, the date is getting closer ;)

:D

You'll have to remind me of the date again... Was it the Friday game?

My girlfriend and I were talking about LD at dinner last night and she asked me if I'd ever met any of the people I "chat" with. You might be the first example she meets!

I don't know if I like being an "example" :p

The game is the 8/7 Saturday game.....but I intend to be there as soon as the gates open for batting practice! We will have to make arrangements to meet somewhere at a set time before the game:D

I was reading the "rules" of the stadium and it states that you can get autographs, but how hard is that to do during batting practice? It also says if you do attempt to get an autograph and you are not in your seating area, you can be asked to leave :noway:

This trip is for my birthday (the BIG one) and my present is going to be Derek Jeter's autograph!! (and any other Yankee I happen to encounter) :hat:

Getting autographs can be tricky for batting practice. They usually let non-ticket-holders into only certain areas, which aren't any closer than shallow outfield. If you can weasel in by the dugout or near the on deck circle, that may be your best bet.

Just tell me what your seat/section/row number is and I'll find you. I know that place better than just about anyone. ;)
