Has anybody downloaded it yet? If so, how do you like it?
I've read good and bad things about it, mostly bad. I'd be interested to know how it worked out for anyone who has it, good or bad.

I think I downloaded it the other day. It was one of those critical update things that I was reminded of when I turned on the computer. I really don't know much about it and so far nothing obviously different has happened to my computer. So I guess it is good cus I can still do all the stuff I used to. I am not really sure what it was supposed to do for me in the first place though. I thought it was just a security thing for viruses.

AOL are advising users not to download it unless they wish to - it causes a conflict with the AOL browser and stops AOL running properly.
Looks like Microsoft never properly tried the code out in a working environment...

The automatic updates picks it up and it's "started downloading", but by that it means it always shows as 0% downloaded...(I have a fast connection, so it's impossible that over 3 days it's downloaded nothing)...so I think automatic updates is broken :p

I'm pretty sure it worked for me though. Is there a way I can see if it was downloaded correctly? Why is everyone having a problem with it? What isiti supposed to do anyway? Now if I really did download it I am worried. So far nothing has gone wrong or been weird though.

Oh there shouldn't be a problem with it...check your installation history (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/)
I know that there are a few holes in the software, but there are even bigger holes which it covers up and it's very unlikey for fixes/updates to patches to not have holes in them. It's just impossible :)

Oh. Thanks for the link.
I looked in my history and the last time something was installed was August 8th. So I guess I didn't install it. That's weird.

Sorry to have bothered you, but I'm just writing to tell you that reason why I haven't been posting in the "Vote for BSB in BBC Ballot" thread (at LD) is because I just downloaded (four days ago) SP2 (Service Pack 2 (for Microsoft's Windows XP (Professional Edition) and I've been having a lot of problems with it. I can barely access the Internet since SP2 changed my "original" settings around and I have no idea how I can get my "original" settings back (plus, I have to click on links (to read messages that were sent to me from LD or other threads) two or three times in order for me to read the message and the page doesn't come up right (a lot of graphics are missing when I'm finally accessing the site(s) and if I try to post something, IE (Internet Explorer) shuts down and it takes three or four tries to try to get back to where I was). Plus, I've been having a hard time receiving e-mails from the groups that we're in, together, because the program, that I use to make sure that I don't download a virus(es) or get Spam, is giving me "never had before" error messages and I'm trying to figure out why it's happening. I'm still getting my e-mails, but it takes me longer (than it did when I had SP1) to access my e-mails (and the program, that I use, to detect viruses and spam before having them be in my inbox, is called "Mailwasher").
If you know of anyone who can help me fix my current problems with my "recently downloaded" SP2 update, from Microsoft, please let me know, I'd really appreciate any help that I can get since I'm not really getting anywhere with trying to figure things out on my own (my twin has been trying to help me, but we're both not really getting anywhere that we want to be in order to get answers to the questions that I'm having regarding me downloading the SP2 update from Microsoft. I mean, Friday I downloaded the SP2 update with no problems, but then I had to shut my computer down because I had a few parties to go to, then when I booted up my computer, the current problems, in which I'm having at this very moment, are annoying and bothersome and, as I had said before, I'm trying to fix everything to perform the way it did when I had SP1, but I'm hardly getting anywhere...so, again, if you know of someone who can help me fix my current issues, please let me know for I'd truly appreciate any help that I can get, asap.
Thanks so much for your time and hope to hear from you, soon.

my guess is they DID, and that's the EXACT behavior they WANTED :p.. not like MSN online/MSN messenger is competing w/ AOL online/AIM or anything :p...
MS has has a history of making competing products suddenly "stop" working at the next "upgrade", while their own stuff gets seamlessly integrated into the OS..

I installed it, and promptly uninstalled it :( It tried to take over my firewall and my Norton Anti-Virus. It changed all of my settings for the internet and my desktop properties as well! It was worse than a well-scripted virus :(

^ You can tell it not to monitor them if you already have them.

I did. And it wouldn't listen. It is just easier to not have it at all.

I downloaded and installed it a few weeks ago. I haven't had any problems so far.

That service pack is evil ! It totally messed up my computer ! And when I try to delete it , an error always occurs and I can't . I think now my computer needs holy water caue it's like it's possesed ! Sometimes I can't even access the internet and my browser will not work . And then sometimes it works ok . I had to delete my anti-virus program too cause the two were like in conflict or something ... If I could go back in time i'd have never downloaded it !
