(Washington, DC) -- DC officials are feeling good about the possibility of the Expos moving to the nation's capital, and yesterday disclosed plans to build a publicly financed baseball stadium on the Anacostia waterfront near South Capitol Street. The project has an estimated cost of more than $400 million. Two high-level baseball sources tell the "Washington Post" that the baseball owners' relocation committee is leaning toward recommending at an executive council meeting tomorrow in Milwaukee that the Montreal team be moved to Washington. The proposed new stadium near the Anacostia River would be part of a $440 million package that would include $13 million for renovations of RFK, where the team would have to play for two to three years. According to the plan, the city would finance the project with 30-year bonds. The stadium site, bounded by "M", South Capitol, "P" and First Streets, Southeast, had been one of four sites under consideration.
