View Full Version : Do you guys think that "Jet"...

"rocks out" more than the Beatles?

Or in a more superior way?

I had this little argument with my child of a brother tonight about who rocked out more. I, of course, said the Beatles as everything they do far surpasses anything anyone else does. It would be really great if you all would IM him sometime or e-mail him and let him know how wrong he is, and also to warn him never to compare the Beatles to one of his little bands ever ever again.

Just so you get an idea of what you should chastize him about, here's some of what the kid was saying:

cornbread006: But Jet rocks out!!!

bekahbeans1: Uh hello, the BEATLES

cornbread006: Do they rock out like Jet? Not really

bekahbeans1: Yes, they do.

cornbread006: I don't think you understand what I mean by "rock out"

bekahbeans1: unless by "rocking out" a totally ambiguous statment by the way, you mean "sucking"

cornbread006: I mean like, totally jamming out, loud, hard, nod your head rockin' out

bekahbeans1: The Beatles invented that type of rocking out. What's wrong with you anyway?

bekahbeans1: I Wanna Be Your Man, She's a Woman, I'm a Loser, Dizzy Miss Lizzie, Got to Get You Into my Life, Drive My Car, Think for Yourself, Run for Your Life, Helter Skelter, Back in the USSR, Hey Bulldog...and so on

cornbread006: Back in the ussr is good. Not as good as Jet. <-- Do you see this?!?! Not as good as Jet?! I'm related to this person. Someone shoot me now.

cornbread006: Well, Are You Gonna Be My Girl is a better rockin' out song than quite a few songs that you gave me

cornbread006: Drive My Car? Not even close.

cornbread006: I mean, just, no. I mean, it's a pretty timid song

bekahbeans1: Timid if you compare it to noise, yes. But it actually has a beat and a purpose. Something you're not used to, I know.

Out of consideration for what I know are probably short attention spans, I left a lot of this disturbing conversation out. But if you do IM him, you might want to bring up the Book of Judith and the fact that scripture cannot be disputed and if it says the Beatles are superior to all other bands ever and should never be compared, he ought to listen if he doesn't want to go to hell.

Thanks.

I like Jet. Having heard every song they've officially put out, as well as some new and as-of-yet-to-be-released material, do I feel they have their own unique sound on a single one of them? No. Not by a longshot. IN every single pahse the Beatles went through, they had their own signature to it (you can argue the covers on the early albums, as well as their Pet Sounds-inspired album - you know what it is - may be a little fashioned after others.... But when you hear it, you still hear The Beatles.)

Anyway, I don't want to rant here... Because I definitely could, with a track-by-track review... But that's only a slightly-related tangent in the scheme of things here, no?

Thank you for that, Andrew. You are so correct.

His e-mail, by the way, is cornbread@mail2crazy.com

I'm very serious about this.

I thought you were talking about the song "Jet," as it fits into the Beatles.

Only the Beach Boys deserve to be compared to the Beatles. :p

bekahbeans
Oct 8th, 2004, 12:47 AM
Not quite. Daniel wouldn't even know there is a song named, Jet. He's that uneducated.

Are you going to e-mail him, Dave?

Andrew?

And I knew you'd come up with something about the Beach Boys, Dave! You can keep thinking that. ;)

Maybe I'll e-mail him. Make him all grumpy towards you or something.

bekahbeans
Oct 8th, 2004, 01:05 AM
Do it. Please!?!?!? I really want him to get e-mails telling him how wrong he is.

I'm afriad I'll be placed on his "Lucky Stabbing List" if I e-mail him in full swing.

Sidenote, though: The band did indeed get their name from "Band on the Run," track 2.

.......I never said the sidenote was interesting.

bekahbeans

lol, that was interesting. I give them slightly more respect now. Slightly.

Come on, pleeeeeeeeeeasee!?!?! He won't kill you I promise! He'll just go, "what the heck!?!? *giggle* Bekah, you suck!!"

Honestly. I know my brother. I bet you that's what he does verbatim.

Comparing the Beach Boys to the Beatles is like comparing the Stones to the Beatles. The Beatles always end up on top.

Bekah agrees with me. ;)

The Stones, for all I can tell, didn't influence the Beatles, and not in their most creative point. The Beach Boys drove the Beatles to Revolver and Pepper's.

And of course now that we know what SMiLE would have been, and that it is in fact a great album, we can now legitamitely ask what would have happened if it came out in the '60s... And how it would have competed against Pepper's.

I agree with you, yes I do, Katie. Of course.

You're right too, Dave.

But Sgt. Peppers still comes out on top ;)

However! This is all irellevent. Are you people going to harass my brother and help me rid him of his foolish ideas or not!?!?!

The Beach Boys and Stones are still the Beatles' bitch. That is all. lmao

neither hold a candle to the Beatles. The Stones,, a handful of good songs, the rest sound just like that handful... Beach Boys ?? Never liked but one song: "Don't Worry Baby", the rest is pure goofiness. Okay, Barbara Ann is kind of fun, too. Nothing compares to the Beatles. Period. :D

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN.

I would say that saying the early stuff could be considered goofy. Of the era you're refering to, that is. If you look at there later Capitol/early Brothers stuff, I would say "goofiness" is selling them very short. PS, Sunflower, Surf's Up are all great albums and the other Capitol stuff between PS and Sunflower has its moments.

Misguided as your post is (;)), it's good to se eyou here again, Busted.

okay, maybe I'm being prejudiced. I 've never heard those two albums, so maybe I should give them a listen. I just never liked those sweety barbershop harmonies and so I never looked into the rest of it... ya know how some voices do it for you and some don't ?

Thanks for the nice words, also, db, I just had to pop over from the Bruce board on John's birthday. The Beatles were my first love. :)

Oh yeah, and I don't mean to hijack the thread bekah,,, I do think Jet rocks out, but not more than the Beatles. ( duh ! :) ) And they are contrived of a whole bunch of bands, but in a fun and enjoyable way.

But are you going to e-mail my dumb brother and harass him!?!?!?

Come ON people! This isn't a difficult thing to ask.

db44
Oct 11th, 2004, 01:20 AM
To me, I'll always put the Beach Boys up top, but in the grand scheme of things, I realize they play second-fiddle to the Beatles. Or less depending on what corrupted soul you ask. ;)

So after I e-mail Daniel, Bekah, may I e-mail you about the Beach Boys?

princessKT

All emails must go through me, her manager/person assistant. Thanks in advance.

db44
Oct 11th, 2004, 04:26 AM
Oh, when did this happen?

bekahbeans
Oct 11th, 2004, 06:16 AM
Are you really going to email him, Dave? If you do, you can email me whatever the hell you want! As long as it's not x rated ;)

Just make sure you send it through my manager, Katie. Thanks

db44
Oct 11th, 2004, 06:20 AM
Okay, I'll save the x-rating stuff for IMs. :p

bekahbeans
Oct 11th, 2004, 06:23 AM
I thought you'd save it for Jenn, seeing as she's the one with so much interest in your tongue :p

But you didn't answer my question. Are you really going to email him?

db44
Oct 11th, 2004, 06:25 AM
Mmmmmaybe.

My tongue went nowhere, thankyouverymuch. In reality or my virtual-tongue.

*awaits Katie's response* :p

Oh, and then I was visited by the ghost of IMs again this morning. :greyno:

bekahbeans
Oct 11th, 2004, 06:27 AM
I'm making a new signature, Dave. You'll be featured in it but hold on, I need to crop it a bit...

And you better email him.

Is this some sort of inside joke with Katie?

bekahbeans
Oct 11th, 2004, 06:28 AM
There. Enjoy. ;)

db44
Oct 11th, 2004, 06:28 AM
Not necessarily an inside joke. Just a slightly related topic she started. :p

Die, biatch. :redmad: Or put the whole quote in.

bekahbeans
Oct 11th, 2004, 06:29 AM
Aaah, ok.

lol, you calling me a biatch?

I'm leaving it exactly as it is. It's perfect. :D

db44
Oct 11th, 2004, 06:29 AM
Ok you're dying?

bekahbeans
Oct 11th, 2004, 06:30 AM
I edited it, just as you edited yours. Get with the times ;)

db44
Oct 11th, 2004, 06:42 AM
I am with the times. My guy released a new album.

bekahbeans
Oct 11th, 2004, 06:45 AM
You know half of the Beatles are dead. *sobs*

And can you really call it a 'new' album? Technically, yeah, but not really. It's not like he just wrote and released a bunch of new material.

db44
Oct 11th, 2004, 06:53 AM
Some of the stuff was re-composed. And it was never truly completed, with all the parts fitting in with one another until now.

bekahbeans
Oct 11th, 2004, 06:56 AM
Yeah, true. But my point still stands.

db44
Oct 11th, 2004, 06:57 AM
Fine.

Then I won't e-mail Daniel.

bekahbeans
Oct 11th, 2004, 07:00 AM
You jerk!

Please!?!?!? I take it all back. :(

Except the siggy.

db44
Oct 11th, 2004, 07:01 AM
I have to think about it.

bekahbeans
Oct 11th, 2004, 07:17 AM
*sigh* Fine.

You're so mean.

1. Yes, I am Bekah's manager.
2. Tongue. Nice.

db44

You did!?!? OMG did you really?

If you did then I love you sooo incredibly much.
