I have been at work for most of the game, i turned the radio on during the 7th and the red sox down 8 nothing i was about to just turn it off but i decided to listen to it since the red sox were up and bellhorn was on 2nd. All the sudden they score 5 runs so im pretty happy, it is not a coincidence that as soon as i started watching(listening) they had a 5 run inning.

What I learned from the game last night:
Moose was fantastic, Matsui still owns the Sox and Bernie came thru yet again:)
tearing down the last home the Babe lived in the same day the series started didn't break the curse;)
Schilling didn't quiet anyone in NY......except maybe the Sox dugout:tongue:

Lieber was brilliant this evening. The Yankee pitching are totally dominating right now, and Boston looks hapless and helpless. I love it.
What's that about the Red Sox destroying the Yankees, Luis? I think it's the other way around. ;-)

Perhaps the most important thing, Francona's "Little" moment, was exposing almost the whole pitching staff to the bombarment. Six pitchers, all hit for at least one ER, all in the fray. Actually, he pulled his best pitcher of the night way too early. Mendoza pitched one inning and is the only pitcher with whose runs-per-nine-inning ratio was at (or under) one. For that he gets pulled by Francona and the loss to boot.
I bet he misses the Yankees now.
He did save Foulke and Timlin, but the rest of the 'pen is dejected now. And tired.
Francona also used his game four starter last night... As a knuckler Wakefield could probably still pitch today (64 pitches? Maybe), but let's see how his psyche is. Also, as the prevailing hope was that the wind could help Wakefield's knuckler and it was supposed to be windier last night than tonight, well, that's kinda omenous. But it looks like he will instead turn to Lowe... Who's after that? Pedro I guess is default for game five, should it go that far.
And here the rainout was going to benefit the Sox pitching rotation. :o

I remember when Matsui first was signed and all the negitve things everyone said... Then I went to spring training last year and saw he could field (that was the biggest knock against him at the time) and he instantly became one of my favorites.
Where are all those people who didn't want to sign him now? :o

I'm sorry.... i gotta say it cause i'm a red sox fan and love my boys :). Winning that one game last night was a HUGE deal :D ! That game was the game that ment we were done or going on, and as my boys proved last night... this thing isn't done! I HATE when yankees fans are like... "big deal, one stupid game" but ya know what... if it was the yankees that were down by 3 and they won that game last night, y'all would be as excited as red sox and their fans are. And don't try to say you wouldn't..... cause that would be a lie. So yankees fans, don't hate cause you didn't sweep us..... its not going down like that. A big difference between red sox fans and yankees fans..... we have faith and we believe :). Yankees fans just assume their team will win and end it. With all that being said.... Congrats red sox :D !

Oct 18th, 2004, 09:10 AM
First, I agree that had it been reversed, as a Yankee fan I would have been excited and don't expect any fan not to react that way for their team. Second, maybe some fans take things for granted, I for one do not! I have faith in the Yankees ability and believe, but I also realize that this is not over til that last out! Both teams are where they are for a reason, and I don't take that lightly, as far as I am concerned, it could honestly go either way and the Yankees and the Sox will play it that way!!
But as far as the teams themselves go, I take humble over cocky anyday, not just in baseball, but in life :sunny:

I'm just so sick of yankees fans acting like they have the best team in the world (and no... i don't mean all yankees fans and no i'm not directing that at anyone here). Red Sox are a really good team..... as this series is proving :). They're not cocky at all, they know their history and they know what they have to do. Maybe that comes off as cocky to people.... but really all they want is to play and have chance. Now, wanna talk about cocky? Joe Torre said when leaving an interview before game 4 started.... "see ya next saturday". To me thats cocky.... him thinking his team is so good they can sweep us. And for the last 2 nights, at the end of the games.... the yankees faces have been very surprised looking like they can't believe red sox are doing this. Well..... believe it, my boys know how to play :). Go Sox.... !

Jususfirecracker01,
You're so sick of the Yankees fan acting like we have the best team in the world, when the reality is, the standings said exactly that. The Yankees won the AL east division outright, which therefore gives them the bragging rights to say that they are the best team in the AL East. Boston fans can't say that about their team, since they were forced to settle for the wild card.
In any event, just as others have so beautifully stated here already, everyone is going to say that their team is the best team. It's simply the nature of the best, the team people follow is going to be their favorite and they are never going to look upon them negatively.
No one has come out and said that Boston is a bad team. Boston is a very good team, who throughtout the past seasons and the seasons before (for the most part) has given the Yankees a run for their money. As with the Yankees, they have had their ups and downs in the series with injuries and lack of hitting, but that isn't to say that the Yankee fans believe Boston isn't good. I never thought this was going to be a sweep, in fact it wouldn't have been the proper thing to have happen. This series needed to go as long as it has, because it's all about playing for the right to go to the World Series.
You state that Joe Torre is cocky, well you could easily say the same thing about the Boston fans and the Boston team themseves. Joe Torre, with 7 World Series appearances in the 9 years he's been with the Yankees, earns you every right to be as cocky as he has been. However, he's probably one of the most calm and collected managers you'd ever meet. Until a Boston manager has had the success he's had, they have no bragging rights and no right to be cocky.
And of course the faces on the Yankees players have been surprised, since again it's a game of numbers. Mariano Rivera is quite honestly the best closing pitcher in postseason baseball history and to see him cough up two saves in the past two nights (now last night's wasn't exactly fair either) has to be shocking. But we're not shocked about Boston playing well (we've know that all along besides how else would they be here) we're more surprised with the fact that the Yankee bullpen has melted down the past two games out of pure exhaustion.
Baseball is all about a game of inches. Many times last night the game could have turned a different way in either team's favor. That's the beauty of the game. So just sit back, relax, and cheer on your team. :-)

I'm not talking about what the stats are of the team, i'm talking about how alot (again.... NOT all) of fans can't admit there are teams just as good. And us as red sox fans don't need/want bragging rights.... we love our team no matter what the "stats" are :). We aren't forced to settle for anything.... we'll take whatever they wanna give us.
Of course everyone is gonna say their team is the best.... thats a given, thats not what i'm getting at.
No... no one here has come right out and said boston is a bad team, but many have used other words to get around it.
Most red sox fans (myself included) are not cocky about them at all.... we just love them and support them :). The red sox players are some of the least cocky people around, they're a bunch of goofballs half the time when something good happens :). Who the heck cares that joe torre has all that stuff..... still no reason to be so cocky and have a huge ego. Yeah be proud, but don't think you're the best thing. Example... tonight when A.Rod was running to first base, bronson went to tag him out and he (a.rod) knocked the ball out of his hand, on purpose. Terry comes out and fights it and of course they all see he ment to do it. So... the call is now that A. Rod is out and jeter back to first. Torre decides he's gonna try to fight the right call.... not gonna happen buddy, sit your butt down. Your player did wrong, don't try to act high and mighty.
My problem is yankee fans that can't admit the red sox are a good team... i'm not saying you have to like them at all. Even i admit the yankees have a good team, but i still hate them, lol. Red sox/yankees games are the best games to go to (i went to 2 this season) and just all the energy and everything is great :).
And just go add..... my brother is a huge yankees fan, and him and i battle about all this stuff all the time. And let me tell you.... living in MA all of our lives (so far) and one being a red sox fan, and the other a yankees fan.... its fun times, lol.
And now... we have a game 7 to play tomorrow night :D , this is far from over!

That's probably the most absurd thing I've ever heard. Obviously you have little to no understanding of how Joe Torre works, or what managers are supposed to do. Regardless of what the call is, and how it's reversed or if it sticks, a manager's job is to come out and speak with the umpires and attempt to plead his team's case, no matter if they feel their player was right or wrong. Joe Torre coming out last night to argue A-Rod's play (careless and impulsive I will agree on the part of A-Rod, but he was trying to manfacture something, besides what were two Boston players doing in the baseline anyway?) was in no way "high and mighty" as you state, but just doing his job. It's all about diplomacy, and managers have an obligation to come out and argue a call to attempt to try to gain something in their team's favor.
Look around at what many people think (outside of the Boston papers which are obviously as biased as the New York papers) and you'll see that most people agree Torre is one of the classiest managers around. You don't get cocky and arrogant from him.
Anyway, none of this matters. In the grand scheme of things, this is just a baseball game. Compared to other things happening in the world, this is just a drop in the bucket. But as Luis said, it's been one hell of a ride.

And what were 2 players doing on the first base line, well..... one was the first base man and bronson was trying to get a.rod out. They were playing baseball, thats what they were doing.

No where in my post did I imply you were stupid. Regardless of what you might think, Torre had an obligation to come out and argue the call, case closed. First base man did not have a right to block the baseline regardless of anything. However, as I have stated before, A-Rod was wrong to swat the ball.

I know everyone is entitled to be a fan of whoever they want, i never said other wise. Me and my brother always call each others teams "crappy"..... its nothing personal we just say it when we're winning, its a joke!!! And i don't know what gives people the (i'm not gonna say red sox fans and leave it at that, cause its happened with all different teams) the right to destroy personal and city property just cause their team one, but i'm proud to say i was NOT and will NEVER be one of those people :). First of all, my entire floor are Red Sox fans so I know a lot of them and I know what they're like. Second of all, everyone in Fenway on Monday were Yankees fans cheering that someone got on base, I don't think so, give me a break! Third of all, they showed the crowds and people with Red sox attire were cheering and standing up. So, actually what was rude and low is the Red Sox fans cheering when people get hit with a pitch.
Actually last year when the Yankees won the ALCS, there were no riots or fires. People were happy but they weren't trashing the place.
