I'm pretty psyched about this, but what do you think?

Destined to fail? Or be a wonderful masterpiece.

Well I wasn't overly impress with "A Friend Like You," but an album by these two will definitely be worth checking out!

Pitchfork is great for news and looking for new music.

Yep, I know, but I'm usually the only one around here that posts Pitchfork articles and no one else knows what it is.

What will be the order on the songwriting credits ?.....just asking

I would guess McCartney-Wilson-no Lennon here. ;)

Either that or maybe they switch off depending on who writes more for which song.

McCartney-Wilson would make the most sense.

For every song.

Considering the ego, I tend to agree. But there's also the alphabetical issue that works too.

And the fact that he was a Beatle of course.

Yeah, one of five people who collaberated to write the band's material, and one of three people who collaborated on what some would say is the best stuff.

Brian was the creative force behind the Beach Boys.

Right....

so you've just agreed with me. Thanks. :p

I agreed with you, yes, but when you are talking about them as solo ventures, Brian kicks Paul's buttocks in the creative and talent fields.

Hmmm...

I'll just put up my signature in response to that.

Still means nothing in the examination of solo endeavors.

Well yeah, but it was fun to do.

I don't know how you can compare Brian to Paul solo. Macca has dozens of solo
albums, while Brian has bee MIA for years......His illness left him out of Pauls' league....no comparison. :noway:

I don't think you can say MIA, but probably not as publically popular.

But also think of it this way: Most of McCartney's stuff is credited "Lennon-McCartney," and produced by Sir Martin. Most of the Beach Boys masterpeices are considered solo works of Wilson... To the point where I believe "Caroline, No" was going to be or actually was released as a Brian single, not as a Beach Boys song. You can say that about much of Pet Sounds.

They were credited as Lennon-McCartney, but it doesn't mean that both of them wrote them. In fact, there were quite a few Macca songs that Lennon hated, and really didn't want to lend his name to.

db44

True... But they worked as a collaberation... And they still had Sir George producing, where Brian produced Pet Sounds on his own.

Sometimes they collaborated, and sometimes they didn't. But no one can deny the genius behind Martin. It is pretty impressive that Brian Wilson produced Pet Sounds, I'll give you that.

Stop.

The Beatles were better, ok. Let's just all admit that once and for all.

Nov 18th, 2004, 04:47 AM
Nope, can't do.

And you ran off AIM before you could face me on the issue. :p

bekahbeans

You didn't IM me fast enough and I quickly grew bored.

But I will face you on this issue any day and you know it. And I'll win too.

This coming from the woman whose siggy is a quote of mine taken out of context.

And yet, the meaning remains the same.

princessKT

Yes, the Beatles were better, and I will never understand your argument otherwise.

I look at the creativity between Pet Sounds to Revolver and now between SMiLE to Peppers, and tend to think of Brian and the Beach Boys albums as arguably better. It may not be the original SMiLE, but a lot of the original remains, as demonstrated by Smiley Smile and multiple boots and tapes.

The unfortunate part is that Brian was not allowed to cultivate his creativity. But for those four great albums, all of which I love and which I consider the pinnacles of both bands, I give a slight edge to the Beach Boys.

Well everyone else in the known universe, and beyond I'd wager, disagrees with you.

And why would you judge bands off of only 4 albums? Look at everything they did and clearly, oh so clearly, the Beatles are superior. You cannot deny this and be truthful to yourself.

"You can't handle the truth." hehe
