10/19/04) We picked up a book the other day called "Handwriting of the Famous and Infamous" by Sheila Lowe that has detailed analyses of writing samples of both John Lennon and Paul McCartney in six different areas. Here are some excerpts from each analysis:

John Lennon:

Personality overview: Here we see a cool-headed individual whose handwriting lives up to his reputation for an acerbic wit that could easily degenerate into hurtful sarcasm. This is seen in the sharp, pointed strokes and slashing t-bars, along with the vertical slant.

Intellectual forces: The predominance of straight strokes points to one who used his head to make decisions. He would go with his intellect even if his heart told him differently.

Motivating forces: ... the high level of control evident from the way the page is organized suggests a determination to stick with whatever he undertook.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Paul McCartney:
Personality overview: Paul McCartney's handwriting has quite nicely balanced margins and line spacing, revealing a good sense of where things belong. He organizes his life and time loosely and flexibly, leaving room to make adjustments as a situation develops.

Intellectual forces: In his writing, McCartney strips away most nonessential loops and strokes, leaving only the basics necessary for legibility. This is a sign of a swift, fluent thinker.

Motivating forces: McCartney is motivated not by money or power, but by opportunities to create and make the world a better place.

Interesting...though I'm not sure how much the whole handwriting analysis I buy.

I wonder how much of the author's preconceived notions play into the interpretation.

Load of crap I say. Honestly, do we need a handwriting analysis to know that John had an "acerbic wit"?
