The first Grand Slam in 2005 is almost upon us and I can't wait, for both the men and women's sides. The draw is as follows:
Men singles:

http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/scores/draws/ms/r1s2.html

Womens singles:

Rod and Federer could possibly meet in the final but they have to get there first. I think the women's side is quite open. I'm rooting for Maria or Lindsay. Absentees include Justine Henin Hardenne, Kim Clijsters, Jennifer Capriati and Mark Philippoussis. Here's hoping for a good two weeks of great tennis!

The women's side is more open than Kournikova on the beach.

It doesn't matter who anyone roots for on the men's side, JesusFed will win.:o

I hope Tim does well too. Around New Year's Day there was a program on TV about the biggest winners and losers of 2004 and Tim was named as one of the losers! He had one of his best years on tour, reached 2 Grand Slam semi-finals(losing to the winner each time)and got to number 4 in the world. I think some people expect him to be like Pete Sampras or something!

Woohoo! Go Elena Baltacha! OK, you may think I'm getting a bit too excited about her reaching the second round but I can't remember the last time a British girl made the second round in a Grand Slam other than Wimbledon. I also think Elena is quite a good player but she's had some health problems. I hope she can win her next match against Aloro who beat Mary Pierce. Major shock of the day is Moya losing to some unknown(at least to me)player. Agassi, Safin, Federer, S. Williams, Sharapova and Mauresmo all made it through to the next round. Here are Monday's results.:

Yes I was cheering for Elena all the way on her 5-7 6-4 6-4 victory over Srebotnik

I'd like to watch Elena Baltacha tonight but she's third on her court and that will be the early hours in the morning here and I have university tomorrow in the morning. :(

On the second day Hantuchova won :) as did V. Williams, Davenport :) Hewitt, Rusedski, Henman :) and Rod :) Rusedski plays Rod next. I remember the first time those two played each other, it was at Wimbledon 2002 and Greg absolutely thumped him. They played then in Wimbledon 2003 and Rod won pretty comprehensively then and the other 2 times Rod has won. Rod is the favourite to win this match but he knows he'll have to up his game against Greg. He'll have a fight on his hands. Here are the complete results:

Has anyone seen much of the Open? What have been the best matches you have seen so far?

OMG Elena Baltacha moves into the third round!!! Great news after dropping the first set!

In addition, I am cheering for the Chinese players too. Na Li def Asagoe to advance to 3rd round and so does Amy Frazier. However, I am sad that Mardy Fish lost a very close battle of 7-5's and 7-6's. Tears.

I didn't see it but by all accounts that match between Nadal and Hewitt was pretty good! I stayed up to see Rod and then a bit of the second set of Dementieva and Schnyder and then I went to bed. I wish I could see Federer v Agassi but I'll be in university by then. :(

Bad news for me on the men's side. I so badly wanted Agassi to win but he did not. I just wish someone could give Federer a challenge, a good game! He's too good lol. Good news on the women's side though. Having seen Maria play a few times I wasn't convinced she was playing her best, not near enough a standard good enough to beat Kuznetsova but she did :) yay! I'd love for Maria to beat Serena in the semis. Let's hope for a good match. Good luck for A-Rod tonight against Davydenko.

A-Rod won! Yay! He will play Hewitt now. I am not sure how that's going to go. Rod had an easy path into the semis but Hewitt was really tested. I highly doubt tiredness will come into it though, not where Lleyton is concerned. I think Federer will beat Safin but I can hope otherwise. :)

I am really tempted to stay up until the wee hours of the morning to see my favourites on the women's side, Lindsay and Maria. Good luck to them tonight! I haven't seen too much of Dechy but am I right in thinking that Lindsay SHOULD win? Maria and Serena, I can't call it. Serena has been looking really good this year and can Maria beat her 3 times in a row? It's a big ask.

Ask and you shall receive. Safin challenged Federer and won 9-7 in the fifth

And Serena defeated Maria by saving three match points and then went on to win the whole tournament Serena totally deserves to win because she is such a great fighter and classy person She constantly proves this

I'm in awe over Serena

Nathalie Dechy played really well, she scored lots of upsets

In addition, Serena's ranking is now #2 in the world and Maria Sharapova is the highest ranked Russian, which I am truly glad for because Maria needs to shut all those bitches (Anastasia, Elena Dementieva, Svetlana Kuznetsova, etc) who say mean things about Sharapova for no reason.....

Safin won, yay! :) I still haven't got over Andy's loss yet though although I haven't seen one shot of it! I heard one person say something not too complimentary about Sharapova but what had all the others said?
