Singer Britney Spears is suing eight insurance companies that have refused to reimburse her for cancelling her 2004 world tour. The pop star cancelled her Onyx Hotel tour last June after suffering a knee injury during a video shoot.
She is now seeking to be reimbursed for the tour's £5m ($9.3m) costs in a claim filed at New York State Supreme Court.
Seven London-based companies and an eighth Paris firm have been given up to 30 days to respond to the complaint.
'Took wrong step'
The 22-year-old star initially missed a number of shows on the 82-date tour after injuring her knee during a show in Illinois last March.
But she was rushed to hospital and needed surgery after a later incident while filming a video for her song Outrageous, leading her to cancel the rest of the tour, including dates in China.
"She obviously took a wrong step and blew out her knee," a Jive spokeswoman said at the time. "It was an old dance injury."
The legal submission described Spears as "one of the most recognised performers in her industry".
The Onyx Hotel tour was cited as "a highly crafted production which included the well-known music and dancing of Spears, supported by elaborate costumes, complex choreography as well as cutting-edge video production, lighting and other effects".
In September Spears married Kevin Federline, who had been a dancer on the aborted tour.

Hmmmm. Maybe the lawyer on Fox should have actually looked at the documents (all 15 pages lol). If he did, he would have seen that she has a very strong case.
When she filled out the insurance forms before the Onyx Hotel begun, apparently it was 4 years and 11 months since she first injured her knee. Every other year before she went on tour, she clicked the "yes" box to pre-existing injuries in the last 5 years (obviously), so the fact that she ticked "no" this time makes me think that she really thought it was over 5 years. But she was a month out lol! Anyway, After the Moline concert where she injured her knee during Boom Boom, she was examined by her doctor and the insurance companies doctor. She was asked about not ticking the pre-existing injuries box, she gave them an explanation, and they were satisified enough that they paid out for the next two dates that were postponed. They also continued to ensure her for the rest of the tour, including the European leg. Now, the reason why the insurance compaines aren't paying out is becuase she didn't tick the box, but they already knew about this and continued to ensure her. If they KNEW and agreed to keep insuring her rather than invalidating the policy as they were entitled to do, then they won't be allowed to turn around and suddenly change their minds - courts frown upon that behaviour as being unconscionable and also bad for commercial certainty and the sanctity of contracts.

it doesn't matter how rich someone is to not want to pay money to something that her insurance was supposed to cover.

I think that it is more of the principal and not the money.
